The moment we've been hearing about for months is here: Barack Obama will formally accept the nomination for president in front of thousands at Denver's Invesco Field. On the anniversary of King's "I Have a Dream" speech, though Obama was just 2 years old when it happened, comparisons between the two are rampant.

At 10 p.m. EST, Obama will have to live up to this: "I have a dream, that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed — 'We hold these truths to be self-evident: that all men are created equal.'"
Liberty and I are lucky enough to go and see it live — with the thousands of people in attendance, we won't be able to get you our reactions to the speech immediately, but we will soon! In the meantime, tell us what you thought! Did the performance match the hype? Was it truly a speech of a lifetime?

Oh I am so excited!!! I am actually going to watch the speech at a "watch party" that my University's Young Democrat club is holding at a state senator's house.
1Wonder who is actually the author of the "speech of a lifetime"?
2I have a question, are you both heading out to the RNC next week to give us these excitement dripping details from there?
3I can't believe people had to get there at 2 pm! That is too long to sit out in the sun.
4I wonder if he's gonna get as big of an applause as Bill (i don't think so). But I mostly just want to hear his speech.
5GS I thought I saw Citizen make a post a while back saying they were going to the RNC, too.
Has anybody else seen the awesome new McCain ad congratulating Obama on his historic nomination and telling him he gets a free pass today due to his accomplishment? I'm glad he did that. It's big of him.
6I will be watching and I cannot express how important it is for my family and I. I have a 7 y/o lil girl and 2 y/o baby boy. My children are half black and half white, this moment will be a part of their history, as it is to ALL Americans. However, I feel today is a validation of telling my children they can accomplish anything.
7I don't even have to hear it to tell you that Obama's speech will not live up to Martin Luther King Jr.'s. It's just not possible. Obama is not nearly as good of a speaker, and the purpose of his speech is not nearly so noble.
8Exactly Mich. Another point, someone else wrote this speech tonight. Not Obama. He is just an actor.
9Just an actor? Sure you aren't think about Reagan not Obama?
10We really wanted tickets to the speech tonight, I don't know anyone who got them in the lottery (but a few people who did because they have connections to the party). It was surreal around town tonight, was driving surrounded by secret service vehicles (hybrid SUVS).
11lol, Kast, I didn't mean by profession. I meant reading words others wrote. That is all a politician is. They are a package that they think someone will buy. It isn't partisan, it is universal.
12This is so exciting! I'm watching the speech right now...
Does anone know who was narrating Obama's tribute video? Maybe I'm just being dense, but it sounds so familiar.
13Wooo he's tannin McCains behind right now too
14givin him a good spank
15I think its kind of funny that he says no one should question anyone elses patriotism... well, there's no cause to question john mccains patriotism. he's proven it. obama should have just said "don't question my patriotism"
16Yeah he is!
17Are you passing out cup cakes Cabaker?
18and where's Marinti I need a drink.
19i wish i had some cupcakes! i have nothing yummy to eat and had to settle for a healthy snack... grrrrr!
20I agree Michelin... I think Obama loses out automatically if people try to compare him to MLK Jr.
I think that there is a connection to be made, but not a comparision, if that makes sense.
I mean, it is pretty cool that just 45 years after the speech, the first major black candidate will be officially nominated to run for the presidency.
I think he started out a bit shakey. He's getting his voice now.
21yummm, cupcakes. I'm out of dessert in my house. That's never a good thing!
22When did the American Dream become the "American Promise"? I guess that's the "change" Obama wants. Dream meant you had to work for it. Promise means your entitled to it.
23Wow that speech was fantastic! He outlined his plans, how he plans to accomplish them, and why he is a better choice than McCain. I also have to add that he is so cute with his family, and I really hope that he doesn't have any skeletons in his closet that will be discovered before the election in November.
24He had so many good points to make. I do not know one good reason to vote for Mc90%Bush, unless you like Bush.
25Janneth, I'll give you one. It's the only reason I'll (probably) vote for McCain. As bad as McCain is, he's better than Obama.
26How about the reference to the temperament of McAngrypants?
27Mich, I understand, you are a Bush*te, and I honor that. But I am not. (Plus I think O is so smart and clearthinking. McCain is so fuzzy if he can't follow the Bush map-game-plan.)
28I am in no way a "Bush*te". I don't think you've paid very close attention to my opinions.
29If you've ever read one of my comments, you'd know that Bush and I see eye to eye on almost nothing.
30I think that was the best political speech I've ever seen. Well done.
31You are right, I was just paying attention to one comment. I know you are politically thoughtful, I know that.
32Obama hand writes his speeches.
He has written books, remember? John McCain's speech writer helped him write his books.
I am sure Obama has people look over it, edit it, and make suggestions, but ultimately I think he is the biggest contributor to his speeches. He didn't have a co-writer on his books, and they are in a similar "voice".
33He may not have a co-writer but he could have had a ghost writer.
34Those are good points Jillness. Tonight all the talking heads I watched said, "He wrote many drafts" and "He's still making changes" and not "The Obama campaign went through many drafts." I've never heard it said that he doesn't write his own speeches. He's been known to borrow from his friend Deval Patrick (with Patrick's permission) but I've never heard it said, even from his critics, that he doesn't write his own speeches.
35Obama is that rare combo of the visionary and the practical.
36How can you not see eye to eye with Bush on most things and still support McCain? Their positions on policies are very, very close on the major issues.
I think the speech was amazing. I think he represented himself and the challenges ahead in an honest and direct way.
37Oh I know Janneth. He has all these new ideas that I haven't even heard before. He's like a revolutionary.
38Jill has there ever been a speech that he has made that you did not think was a amazing? I honestly think he could stand on stage and cluck like a chicken and the Obama fans would thing he was full of magic, change and hope.
39I can't wait to hear what the sugar girls post about this. I can't imagine being there. Must have been chaos with 80,000 people.
40Thing=think. Sorry typing with one hand.
41Jillness, like I said, as much as I dislike and disagree with John McCain, he is the lesser of two evils.
42cine, Have you ever listened to a chicken cluck? I mean really listen? To the highs and lows. The emotional depth and the promise of farm fresh eggs. Moving.
Not all watch Obama with stars in their eyes, but tonight, he did give a great speech.
43It was a brilliant speech. I agree with Jill and feel he made a very clear and thoughtful game plan for the challenges ahead. Plus, he was a complete gentleman. I applaud him and hope that his message got through.
44Yes, pull out that well known tradition of insulting me instead of making a point.
It was a good speech. Get over it.
45And Mich, i am right there with you.
46There's no excuse for not subsidizing every industry in the United States so that the citizens of this country don't have to pay so much for things.
47Obviously Organic missed the speech!
48Cine, I want a goat emoticon but I'll settle for a piggie. @)
49aww.. no piggie
