Obama's middle name is Hussein. So freakin' what?
1That's so sad about Del Martin. But I think it's wonderful that she was able to marry Phyllis before passing away.
And steph, EXACTLY.
2The whole Hussein thing...Haven't we been over this before?
3Many times.
4Mccains middle is "sidney" and they dont use it, tis a family name.
5He must have ties to Australia!!!!
6Does anyone know why it is a big deal that Obama's middle name is Hussein? Have I missed something?
I second your sentiments about Del Martin, Jude. She and Phyllis were such a cute couple!
7This is the first I heard of Dare's death. I thought I would be filled with sarrow but in its stead I find my heart filled with joy and pride. Both her and her wife Phyllis through activism and good old fashioned courage have been instrumental in moving societies compasion and laws to welcome homosexules into the mainstream. Their recent marriage is bitter sweet and all of my love thoughts and prayers go out to Phillis Lyon on this day.
8*Ugh sorry Del's death.....
9I think the people who use "But his middle name is Hussein." are as igorant and ill informed as people who use, "It will just be 4 more years of Bush." These people all frustrate the hell out of me.
10Lol, I misspelled ignorant!
11I don't see how they're equal.
12One is a name that was assigned to someone by their parents many years ago, the other is an observation evaluating and comparing what has been done in the past with what someone says will be done in the future.
I felt sadness mixed with joy when I heard about Del's death last night. I'm so glad that she got to be lawfully united to her love before she passed.
13All Republicans have the same/similar policies for the most part. The same can be said for most Democrats. It's preschool logic to assume that because two people are of the same party then they are therefore exactly the same. Is BO going to be another Clinton, or gasp, Carter?
14Basing the claim on a simple assumption would be preschool logic, I agree.
15But when the statement holds up to a factual comparison of what Bush has done, how McCain has voted in the past, and what he says he will do in the future, you evaluate the point considerably.
What about BO's record of being the MOST liberal voter in the senate? Doesn't that just make him a stereotype?
16So sad about Del Martin. So happy that she was able to marry.
17Who's talking about stereotypes?
18I asked how using Obama's middle name and claiming McCain would just be more Bush are equal. No one mentioned stereotypes. And the National Journal claims Obama is the MOST liberal member of the Senate - that's not a universal truth.
Steph, his voting record is open for any to view.
19Yes it is, and when you do compare Obama's voting record (and the NJ only used 2007, a busy campaign year with a lot of missed votes) with other liberal senators, you will find problems with the National Journal declaration.
However, that is not relevant to the original question. The question was how are using Obama's middle name and comparing McCain to a third Bush term equal?
20Steph, I explained it. If you can't see it, or just refuse to, that isn't my problem.
21No you didn't explain it, but if you can't, that's okay with me. You called both statements ignorant and ill-informed. I asked how they are equal.
You said if someone assumes every candidate from the same party is going to be the same they are using preschool logic - but didn't explain how that ties in to the name.
Then you brought up liberal stereotypes - but didn't explain how that ties in to the name.
Again, a candidate sets out his or her agenda and people compare it to what they've seen and heard in the past and draw their conclusions about what that means the candidate will do in the future.
A baby is given a name by their parents.
How is using a person's middle name equal to concluding from experience how a candidate is going to behave?
22that is sad steph.
23The inability to clearly articulate your meaning is sad. It suggests that the link you tried to make isn't holding.
24No steph, I explained it. Your inability to see anything other than what you want to see is what is truly depressing.
25No, you've just tried to change the subject twice; you have not come anywhere near showing a relationship between a using person's name and connecting McCain to Bush.
26That they are both false arguments. And steph, I am through.
27I can see why.
28Using a person's name isn't an argument. Making a legitimate, factually supported comparison can be.
lol, go stephley!
29Go where? Make yourself look like a stubborn person who only sees what they want to see?
30huh? Did you just describe yourself?
31I don't see the relationship either.
32Sigh, Gitsie, do you ever add anything but sarcasm and insults to the conversation?
33As opposed to sarcasm, insults and personal information?
