Every so often we can feel down on our luck. Maybe it's just a passing mood or maybe it's a particularly bad string of events, but sometimes in this hectic life we just need a pick-me-up. Here are some of my quick mood boosters when the going gets tough. Check them out and see if you agree!
- Have a latte! The simplicity of a good espresso drink cannot be beat. Pair it with a walk outside and you have a cheap pick-me-up that's good for a dreary afternoon.
- Dine on popcorn and Red Vines. I have a thing for movie-theater treats, and I always feel better after a couple hours of munching and a light-hearted movie.
- Play with a puppy. I'm a sucker for pups, but most of the time I can't actually get to one when I need one. Fortunately, puppy pics or videos usually do the trick. So when I'm in a sour mood, but stuck behind my computer, I'll opt for a good 10 minutes of puppy viewing!
- Enjoy a chocolate-chip cookie. What's better than the smell of homemade cookies? Eating homemade cookies, of course! I love to get my bake on when I'm gloomy. Cookies and milk do a mood good.
- Get active. I'm going to be honest with you, I don't love to work out (sorry, Fit!), but I do love how I feel afterwards. If I can drag my behind out the door, I'm sure to feel better when I get back home.

I love these ideas! I could have used them last night when I felt like I was crashing. My pick-me-up instead wound up being Jay Leno...not too shabby.
1Yesterday when I was so frustrated with work that just I couldn't get myself to continue, eating a bit of cheesecake I had in the fridge did wonders for me.
And when I don't have cheesecake, which is most of the time, some chocolate does a pretty
good job.
Zoning out with a good movie or TV show can be awesome as well.
2Playing with a puppy or a kitten is up lifting.
Also, I agree with he workout part.
Lets see, sleep! lol.
3SHOPPING! Nothing makes me happier than new shoes.
4Music...loudly. And shaking your moneymaker helps too.
5I can't resist the sound of babies laughing. When I'm in a bad mood or just need to smile I head over to YouTube and watch them. Also "old" music from my childhood helps get me happy too. Brings back good memories of easier times.
6a nice walk in the fresh air, some upbeat music, a good book and baking soothes me as well.
7two words: RED WINE
8I got to play with the softest Golden Retriever puppy yesterday. I didn't need a pick me up but will definitely look to play with a little critter in the future when I'm feeling blue.
9Oh, I need a latte.
10I just do whatever the heck I want for awhile. It helps.
11I agree with No. 3 and 5, not so much 1, 2, or 4, mainly because food shouldn't be the main mood lifter when a person is down. And, if a person is down often, eating to fill the emotional void is not a healthy habit. I love my cookies, popcorn, and licorice when I'm already happy.
12those are really good ones that I intend to try sometime. I sometimes try to put on a good funny sitcom or some happy feel-good music. or go out for a walk or buy myself something small. like a candy bar or whatever....usually works for me.
13When I'm feeling blue, I love to watch a funny movie or TV show, cuddle with my dogs & cat, eat comfort food, or get a Starbucks frappucino.
14Oooo, the cat(s), Californiagirl.. I love doing that. Having a good cry next to the cat. Supposedly when they purr it's suppose to be good for your spirit or energy or something.
15Hahaha, the first time I got into a fender-bender, I called my mom and her only advice was, "Go get yourself some Starbucks, honey, you'll feel so much better." Go Mommy!
16I love cats! But I'm not allowed to have any in my apartment
17I agree w/ the lattes, exercise, and I'll add mani/pedis...and of course shopping.
18shopping and ice cream
never fails.
19My kitties cheer me up. A cuddle from a big furball purring loudly always does it for me. but if I'm a work, usually a short drive with some good music helps as well.
20g1amourpuss - Yeah I love cuddling with my cat. My aunt once told me that pets can tell when something is wrong with you, and that has ALWAYS been true in my case. My pets always come up to me if they see me cry. It's so weird...
I also forgot to add that if I'm feeling upset, I also feel better when I exercise (usually that means taking a brisk walk) or listening to music loudly in the car.
21Thanks Dear, these are excellent advice! (although my latte will be a soy chai latte
)
22With the autumn weather that's been going on here for the last week and a half, I definitely needed these tips.
Curling up with my favorite trashy/fashion mag in a comfy old sweatshirt and lounge pants ... and a cup of hot chocolate. With marshmellows. This always helps when I'm either feeling fragile or down.
23I volunteer for an RSPCA shelter and when I am feeling down I go walk a few of their dogs! Shelters ALWAYS need dog walkers.
I had a lady come up to me in the street the other day and said "why are you walking the dog? is it to raise awareness?" "no, it's because dogs need daily walks and volunteers come in to spend their time doing this..."
Jeez. It's like they are just show puppies or something.
24This is going to sound crazy but I do my makeup and hair up really fun and trendy. I cry when I'm doing it sometimes but when I'm done I feel so much better. I also like taking pictures when I'm done. Those bad day photoshoots always end well for me. The best quick fix though is shopping. Never fails.
25Shopping, pedicures & lattes never fail me.
26I find that I can take my mind off my worries if I curl up on the couch with my cat and HGTV! I agree that pets know when you're down. Mine always appear so worried when I cry. Shopping helps too!
27For me, its all a nice soak in my tub with some candles. That can erase almost any bad feelings!
28The Muppets Take Manhattan. Works every time.
29working out ALWAYS works for me, better than anything else. I try to avoid food and alcohol as emotional rewards, but sometimes I slip. cleaning and doing laundry make me feel really happy. listening to music works really well, too. the best thing of all is to get together with a friend for a long chat.
30I do not dare to use shopping or food as a pick me up because I'd be in debt and weigh 400lbs. I love to cuddle with my kitty or write in my journal. Also listening to really loud music and singing my lungs out.
31Cookie yes
Late/Cappuccino yes
I find the mac counter also works wanders!
32I wholeheartedly agree with the puppy idea. If you're not a pet owner or don't have access to a dog, just go down to the animal shelter and play with the dogs there-- they would appreciate it so much and it'll make you feel tons better. If you don't live near an animal shelter, going to PetLand/similar pet stores that carry puppies works too. The poor little things are stuck in these small cages, so they would love to be played with.
33Yoga is the best!
