The only diary/journal I ever read was my husbands. After we got married he handed them to me one day and told me he wanted me to read them all, so I did. At first I was a little apprehensive because I knew he had 2 previous girlfriends, and reading what he wrote about each of them would be weird. In the end I'm really glad I read them, as I felt like I knew where he was coming from a bit more.

Other than that, I've never read anyone's diary but my own (though I prefer to call it a journal, hehe).

This question made me laugh
I remember in high school while my friend was holding the diary-owner friend down, I ran away with the diary to the bathroom stalls! The rush was amazing. Haha. But when I got there, this after locking myself in, my conscience got the 'best' of me and I just stood there and decided.. Nah. It was so wrong on many levels. I returned the diary and profusely apologized.

It was sad. But it sure is funny. It makes me smile just thinking about it.

No. I house sit for my best friend sometimes, and she keeps her diary/journal by her bed - I have never been tempted to read it.

I've been guilty of reading my cousin's and my sister's diary a few times--and I feel quite bad about it! I think I did discover some juicy secrets but these things shouldn't be known unless the person actually tells you personally! Still, I was little and curiosity got the best of mine. And not to place the blame but--they did it to me, too!

I have come across notebooks of my husband's (bf at the time) and exhusband's (my exhusband was a writer though..I would find his stories and encourage him to complete them). My current husband was just jotting notes down about me, trying to figure out things.. he was going through a horrible time when we first got together.. But the things he wrote made me cry. He said was "spoiled", and so on. [I was making it on my own. I knew what I wanted.] (Kind of like that stupid Friends episode where Ross wrote down a list about Rachel and that other girl.. but it was _only_ a list about me.) When I asked him about it, he threw it in the club dumpster. (I had to pick him up from work.) I felt so hurt. He was upset that I found that, but he left it sitting out on a table in my apartment.

I've had people try to find sh!t that I write about online, stalkers essentially. It's just irritating because some people are so fk'n nosy. I try not to snoop and respect people's privacy. Most of the time if it's something private it's not meant to be found or figured out, like a diary. I really don't want to know what the hell my friends are writing about if it's private unless they are suicidal. But if I knew that I'd try to pull them out of that somehow.

Honestly though, if it's private, I just don't give sh!t. Let them have their fk'n privacy. I want mine!

I mainly just wanted to comment that the stock photo of a woman with what looks like a calculator and a day planner was an odd choice for this post.

And glamour, if you write something and post it online, do you really expect privacy? I know I don't.

When I was in middle school my best friend and I used to read her older sister's diary. I don't really feel THAT bad though because we only read it because we thought she was SO cool and we were jealous of her being a cool tenth grader who was allowed to hang out with boys lol.

No, I don't know why someone would do that. I read my sisters' diaries when they were really young but they usually only had 2 or 3 entries that usually contained a couple meaningless sentences apiece. And I once read this journal that my cousin passed around with her friends in high school, but I had her permission. I've never read any of my friends' personal diaries though.

I was tempted to... I have a friend who just seems so happy to the point of insanity all the time... and she left me alone in her room for a few minutes, and I was never so tempted as to have a peak because she DID leave it on her desk, and I wanted to see if she really was that giddy all the time. However, I'm a good girl and never did. I had a few opportunities though.

Sad thing? I REGRET not taking a peak. Awful, isn't it?

I'm a horrible snoop so if it's a person I don't particularly like I'm going to read it. You'll never know I read it and I won't hold anything against you but yeah, I'd read it. I'm curious and really insecure about what people think of me. I know it's not an excuse but I really hate two faced people who are your friends to your face and talk crap about you behind your back. I like to find out who my true friends are.

its creepy, and i would feel betrayed if a friend did it to ME, so i would not do it, period. never have, never wanted to.....i dont want to know any persons most private thoughts......they they want me to know certain things, then they can TELL me.....otherwise, i dont go there...everyone needs some personal space

No, i wont do it. When i was around 15 i realised my mum had been reading my diary. I made up some really out there stuff and wrote it in my diary. The following week was hilarious because i could tell she wanted to say something to me but wouldn't cause she'd get in trouble lol.

She ended up getting my older cousin to come to me and say she'd 'heard some tihings' at school, i told her what was going on and we spent all afternoon coming up with stories to take back to my mum, we felt bad though and put her out of her misery instead lol.

Funny story!

If you're a good friend, and you can't get her to divulge, then you'll find out on your own. I did just so, and she never knew. She finally told me the truth later, and I was glad she did it on her own terms. She knew secrets about me that she handled gently as well. That's what true friends do.

When I was younger i found out my brother read my journal (he bragged to me about it!) So of course I had to get back at him and read his. That was the extent of that particular battle though.

In college, my roommate one year had a bf that went to another school. He would visit a couple weekends a month and they had this journal they shared between the two of them where they would write love notes to each other or whatnot. One day I saw the journal lying on her desk and couldn't resist. Awful I know. I flipped to one random page and happened to see something written about me-- it was a snide little comment written by the boyfriend. I was shocked because I was always pretty nice to him, made sure to spend nights away from the room when he came to visit so they could have their "special time," haha. Anyway after that I just shut the book and didn't read anymore. And I continued being nice to him... I hope he felt bad. To this day I still feel bad about reading their journal. Lesson learned.
