China put on a spectacular goodbye to the 2008 Beijing Olympics. David Beckham and a red double-decker bus made appearances, helping China pass the torch to London, which will hold the games in 2012. David wasn't the only star shining among the many fireworks; Leona Lewis and Led Zeppelin guitarist Jimmy Page also entertained the athletes and spectators.

The United States left Beijing with the most overall medals (110), while China got the most golds (51). China celebrated its success with a show that included flying drummers, unicyclists, bouncing gymnasts on stilts, and a human trampoline.

Having watched the Olympics from cover to cover I have to say that I was impressed with the host and the games but the coverage was not so great too much Extra Extra and too little ESPN for me.
I can understand the promoters wanting to make Phelps a house hold name so we can run out and buy anything associated with the name over the next year but glory be to God people the name is ringing in my ears and I'm never going to buy anything because his name is associated with it.
Thought the closing ceremonies were cool until Leona Lewis sang a Led Zeppelin song and all the coolness in the room made for the nearest exit air vents, door cracks what ever it could find it just left and so did I. Though David Beckhams name quickly drew me back to the TV were a salivated for the few moments he was on.
1I agree Hypno, Leona singing Zep (even with Page) was lame. well the whole "london is next" stuff was cringe worthy. Poor David was just used for his Ball.
2i was really impressed with how well the games were executed - the opening ceremony and part of the closing. i think that there was no way for the closings to compete with the first view that we had of the games - but i can say that China did impress us and that's something quite special.
3Yeah... the "Whole Lotta Love" cover had me scratching my head wondering what London is implying by using this song to promote the next summer Olympics!
At least Page still "has it".
(Really! He rocked his really really
short guitar solo)
4i agree, im english and didn't get at all why they used whole lotta love for our song?! it should of been we will rock you, we did have a party back home afterwards and sung that though....
5I enjoyed watching the Olympics especially because I got to watch The Caribbean feed of it, with Caribbean commentators so we were privy to hearing about our athletes and their previous successes instead of having everything being focused on the U.S. athletes, which is what would have happened from the NBC feed. No disrespect to them, they were all brilliant, but it's just nice to be able to hear about your fellow countrymen/women for a change (without having them accused of using performance enhancers!! ). It was really nice because I had friends swimming in the Olympics so they actually got some screen time and the commentators spoke about their previous achievements, and I got to scream my head off!!
6The Opening and Closing ceremonies were both amazing, although I did chuckle because it really did seem like Beckham was only around for his hotness and to kick a ball! Oh well, the feedback that they discussed on BBC showed that many British viewers were quite disappointed with the London segment.
I was diggin that bus though. I want one.
7Hills, We Will Rock You would have been an excellent choice!
8I thought the Brits could have done better. Stick to pop 'Simon's prodigy'. The rest of the show was amazing.
