With so many different kids of pills out there, it's just a matter of time before finding one that's right for you. Now some women are on the pill for the good old-fashioned reason of preventing pregnancy, but other women are on it to clear up their skin or to have lighter periods, know what day and time they'll get it, or perhaps they like the option of skipping it all together. This hilarious video pretty much sums up the new rationale for being on the pill, but tell me, all you pill-goers out there, why are you on it?

Juicy Couture
Hush Puppies
Isotoner
haha wow that was awesome!
Welllll partially I am on because I have sex like everyday with my man and don't want a baby for a looooong time. AND because I want liek 4 periods a year (yes I am on one of those kinds). I just hate how having my period makes me feel bloated and fat and sad and I cry SO much...so yea I hate that!
1Because I don't want to get knocked up!!
2That's my friend (or rather friend of a good friend, we've only hung out a few times) Lindsay!! She's doing great and getting paid pretty well for these commercials... she's always good as the girl-next-door type!
Anyway, I'm never on BC unless I'm in a relationship. I don't like the expense or the worry of being on medications.
3i went on it partially to not get pregnant and partially because of my skin (the sex thing kinda happened right around the same time that i realized i need to do something about my acne)
4and i remain on it for all the reasons you mentioned above
That's hysterical. But what's the purpose of it?
5strictly as a contraceptive
6It's a weird story. My boyfriend's parents are constantly moving to new places. They moved pretty far away and were gonna have him switch schools right at the end of his senior year. He just wanted to finish his school year with his friends. So my mom let him stay with us until he finished high school.
7LOL Ooops.
Anyway, he could only stay with us if I went on birth control. My mom trusts me enough to let him sleep in my room. So I'm on BC so my boyfriend can stay at my house.
Yeah. My mom's pretty cool.
8I second that - strictly as a contraceptive.
9I am only on it to not get pregnant. But I hate it. I really want to go off it.
10Yea that was high-larious. I think I'll stick to my Nuvaring for now, even though I'd love a pill that lets me wear big earrings and have a cool non-specific media job.
11so i'll know exactly when to expect it. and to lighten cramps.
12hehe just saw the video
13loool
hehe just saw the video

Went on it for mood and cycle regulation.
15This video was pretty funny. And now that I think about it, every pill advertises itself as period control and really doesn't even mention sex. I'm on the pill as a way to prevent pregnancy. I still use condoms but I feel so much better about having sex knowing that there is a back up method (the pill) to my main form of birth control (the condom).
16Cycle regulation (and to skip periods), clear skin, and when applicable - to prevent pregnancy.
17Went on it for a hormone imbalance, sometimes I would get 2 periods a month! I've basically been on it since I was 15, since everytime I go off it my body goes haywire. I'm not sure what's gonna happen if there's ever a time I don't want to be on it. . . .
And btw - I went on yaz and it does the exact opposite of what it says! I became so moody I was crying all the time . . . like an insurance commercial would come on and I'd start bawling about car accidents . . .
18heheh that was funny (:
I initially went on it as a hormonal control/to clear up my skin but also as a contraceptive. now I'm on it until I get the ok from the hubby to work on a wee leetle beebee. yey!
19I started the pill when I was 18 to help with cramps and regulate my period. When I started having sex, then it obviously kept me from getting pregnant. I've never gone off of it in 6 years...it's just part of my life now.
20ovarian cysts -- i only get my period 2-3 times a year if I don't take the pill, and while that's great, a burst cyst is NOT.
21prevent pregnancy ... and make my period more predictable.
22Not to be preggers. Thanks pill.
23strictly for preventing pregnancy.
I've been taking Cyclessa for the last month, and it was my first pack. I've never taken bcp's before, so I'm kind of confused...
is it OK to "skip" periods all the time by not taking the sugar pills at the end of the month?
wouldn't all women on bcp's just skip their periods then? Why go through the trouble when there's the option of skipping?
I'm asking because I HATE having my period like every other girl. I would skip them altogether if it didn't harm me in any way.
Please help me out here!! Thanks
24the video is freaking hilarious btw.
25she has such a dorky, awkward (in a good way) sense of humor!
I was originally on birth control to fix my insane hormones and really horrible PMDD(pre-menstrual dysphoric disorder). I'd bleed through 7 overnight pads a DAY. And my periods would last like...12 days. It stayed heavy until day 9-10. I'd get cramps so bad I'd cry and almost would need to go to the hospital. It was bad. Now I enjoy my 5 day light period. Since I got married, it helps for the contraceptive part. It's cleared my skin, it's made my life livable. Hell, I can wear white or light colored pants for the first time in my life without being fearful or horribly embarrassed. I take Yaz, and it hasn't taken my sex drive away.
26for the obvious reasons, and it cleared up my skin!
27lighten cramps, prevent pregnancy, regulate hormones (related to acne and emotions) so yeah.
I get seriously horrible cramps when off BC so that was my main reason but preventing pregnancy is a huge one too and the others were just perks!
28Mostly for my cycle regulation and because I had super heavy periods. And to regulate my mood
29My dermatologist actually put me on it at 19 to control my acne and I will forever love her for that, and because it helped my insane periods (my regular doctor was very old school and didn't think 8 days of HEAVY period a month, to the point where my ab muscles bruised, was something to worry about).
I tried going off it last year but I still have the skin of a 13 year old boy
30Lighten cramps and regulate periods.
31Period regulation. I'm very schedule oriented and if it was late, I'd get very frustrated, especially since I'm not having sex. I also tend to be stressed, which doesn't help the situation. My skin also went to crap a couple years ago when I started college, so that totally helps! Oh and when I eventually have sex, I don't wanna get knocked up
32Oh and because I'd get mood swings so bad, I would almost think I was becoming bipolar. Since I started it, it's been so not an issue that I actually forgot about it!
33That was so funny! I never thought about the fact that BC commercials don't mention sex! I'm on it for period/cramp control.
34Not on anything right now, but if I took it it would be pretty much for preventing pregnancy. I have pretty light periods anyway, some little cramps here and there...hmmm, I might need it for moodiness though, ha.
seraphimm, as far as I know, it's ok to skip sugar pills. I believe there are now kinds of bcp's that don't even have they sugar pills, you just keep taking the regular pills. There was a post on here about it a while back I think.
35P.S., it was very funny, and I never though about the fact that they don't even mention sex either, lol.
36seraphimm - totally ok to skip sugar pills is what i've heard. that's the idea of seasonique - all active pills for 3 months and then a week of sugar pills, so period 4x a year.
However, if you are sexually active (what a lame term!), it might be pretty reassuring to KNOW you're not pregnant with a monthly reminder. Hell, it IS pretty reassuring. =)
37I was on it for 9 years decided to go naturale after learning about the 'cons' of it. 18 mnths later i now have an ovarian cyst potential endometriosis and i've been advised to go back on it a bit sad really but have learnt it has many positives along with the cons. Like everything ying/yang.
38Muirnea thank you!! I'll check that post
caryatid!! you are SO RIGHT!!!! That was a total bonk on the head! I am so glad I asked because it didn't occur to me that I wouldn't know if I was not pregnant otherwise! Thank you
39Regulate periods and prevent pregnancy. And I totally didn't get the shorter lighter periods at all, but I did get consistency. And I dont have a kid, so its all good!
40I've got severe endometriosis, and being on a continuous BCP (only having a few periods a year) can suppress the growth of it. And I don't want to get preggers anytime soon!!
41I'm on it mainly for hormone/cycle regulation. Like pixelhaze, I've been on it since my teens, and whenever I tried going off it my body and mood went haywire.
I've never had a relationship serious enough that I was ready to skip condoms (I'm super-paranoid about STDs), so the pill never was my primary method of birth control, but it was nice to know that if a condom broke, the pill protected me from pregnancy.
42Really cool video! Very funny! I don't take birth control because I'm not having sex so...
43hahaha great video, definitely needed that this morning at the office.
i was on it originally to control my skin and horrible painful periods but have remained on it to prevent wee screaming people.
i'd actually like to have my tubes tied but because i am under thirty, childless, and unmarried no doctor i've been too will consider doing it. i've never wanted children of my own, if i decided to have a child i've always wanted to adopt...
i'm weird...i know...
44I went OFF it for period control (pleaaaase stop the random spotting, I'll take regular, natural periods any day) for mood swing control (yeah, I was fine before that) and for better birth control. I'd rather KNOW when and if I'm ovulating, for sure, than not have any way of knowing for sure if my low-dosage pills are doing the trick or not (yep, was on the lightest kind, and didn't trust it, so yeah I ended up taking a test every month anyway)
45Oh yeah - loved the video - so true.
46Didn't want to get knocked up but now me and the boyfriend want a little one, so I am off of it and nervous.
47Video was awesome! My friend and I make fun of such ads, and tampon ads, and any video where girls are talking about stuff like that with each other. I mean, who really does that??! I use it strictly as birth control. I hate kids and do NOT want one, but I love sex
48Lol! good one!
i got on the pill for birth control and ovarian cysts, it got me FAT! like 15 pounds heavier, and i tried (femelle, femiane, Yaz) and they all did the same to me, decreased libido also.
Now, i am off the pill and got a few pimples in my face but my libido increased and i am loosing a little bit of the water weight i gainned.
491) no babies
502) clear skin
