I have about a dozen shoeboxes jammed in the farthest corners of my closet just stuffed to the brim with old letters, cards, ticket stubs, and other random things that carry serious sentimental value for me. Every time I move, I carefully pack up all these boxes and place them lovingly in my new closet, where they sit for the most part untouched. Every once in a while though, when I'm feeling down or just contemplative, I open up the boxes and let the nostalgic feeling wash over me — it's like a trip down memory lane!
Now I know everyone collects things that matter to them over the years, but tell me, do you often find yourself longing for the past?

sometimes! i miss highschool days, university days, grad school days, but i'm happy where i am now. they're just fund memories, and i'm happy they brought me to where i am.
1Sometimes. I make scrapbooks so when I look through them every once in awhile I do get nostalgia.
2Sometimes, when I feel really crappy, I make a date with myself, open up a bottle of wine, bring out the boxes, have a good cry! I feel really good the next morning, despite a major hangover! It is a great way to keep in touch with myself, if that makes sense.
3i get nostalgic all the time! i always think of random memories and miss those times, even though i love my life and the memories i'm making in the now, too. i'm not a big hoarder when it comes to most things, but i do hoard things of sentimental value - tattered teddy bears, letters/notes, birthday/christmas cards...even old movie tickets! and i love looking back on photos.
4Haha, this one is kind of a double-edged sword for me. I have a big box under my bed as well as one in the garage...if I'm feeling particularly down in the dumps, I'll sift through both of them. Sometimes they give me a laugh or two, but other times they bum me out and make me long for the past.
5its hard for me to toss a box of stuff i have from my ex of 5 yrs. i'm happily in love with my fiancee, but bc my other relationship was so long, if i threw away all the pics it would be like throwing away my memories of highschool and college- even tho i'm 100% over it.
6I have two boxes of "stuff". Thign from school, things from exes, photos....diaries...i like them tho. I love where i am now, but I love goign through all that crap! It's interesting to see how different I am now!
7Since I live so far from my hometown and my family now, I get nostalgic alot. It seems like life only gets harder and more complicated and I often wish to go back in time to being a kid again.
8I get nostalgic about the littlest things, and anything can spur on a nostalgic moment--a smell, a sight, a sound, a taste--and i begin reliving a certain time in my life. It's kind of depressing sometimes, though, since it happens all the time. I love my life now, but I'm always thinking about the past.
9Not really; I'm the type of person who is always looking towards the future and never looking behind.
10I've found myself getting really nostalgic and emotional when I put away my daughters clothes that no longer fit her. It's such a difficult thing to do because I know she will never again be that little.
Prior to having her, I didn't really dwell too much on the past. I kind of hated high school and college was fun, but nothing unbelievable. The only other thing I get a little nostalgic over is our wedding, but having a baby changed it all for me.
113 boxes. One big one for one big ex
12i have to hide it but now and then i look in it and cry
I don't long for the past, because I like the present so much better, but I do enjoy a good wallow on memory lane. For me it's all about music--certain songs can take me back to 1992 (or whenever) instantly.

14im really happy where i am now
i used to always go back to a certain box years ago, but then i realized it only bothered me, so no.
Yes, I'm very nostalgic and I often long for the "good ol' days" but I'm also pretty happy with where I am now. I have lots of boxes of memories from my childhood and my high school years, but I just have one shoebox under my bed that contains mementos of my relationship with my ex-boyfriend. I always think about burning it, but I think I would regret it.
15seka21: whyyyyyy do we look back and cry? like... i don't know that person anymore but it still makes me feel sad that i lost such a good friend...since my ex was my best friend all thru school.... even tho i love my man to death...my ex romantically means nothing anymore, i still can let go of some of those mems!
16Yes, too often, but I don't cry or anything. I usually just laugh and feel better, even if the that "thing" reminds me of bad times.
17Yes. Sometimes when I'm thinking about a loved one that has passed and I'm really sad I cry a lot. I did last night. I had reason to though because of that slut. I think I might be depressed and that is why I'm thinking about the past so much. Although when my parents make my brothers and sisters and I clean we think about all the toys and clothes that we used to wear and all the memories. Then the next day we're over it and back to our normal lives.
