While we're breathlessly awaiting Liberty's big text from Obama to see who he picks for Veep, Bella says it's maybe the "pluck" that matters most. Virginia Gov. Tim Kaine was making the rounds, stumping for Obama this weekend, humbly demurring talk of a #2 slot and showing up on Meet the Press. While he was conducting official business, his brows were the object of scrutiny on NPR's Wait, Wait . . . Don't Tell Me!
Brow expert Eliza Pertrescu bashed Kaine's brows saying, "his eyebrows are definitely too feminine . . . his eyebrows are too manicured; whoever did it made him look almost like a woman." She also dished on the candidates arches as well. It's official — every aspect of the campaign has been scrutinized. With breathless attention to Obama shirtless and Kaine's eyebrows questioned, are male candidates finally getting the attention to looks that Hillary faced all campaign? Do a candidate's looks matter?

Just saying, NPR's Wait, Wait . . . Don't Tell Me! is so funny. I'm so happy when it's on when I'm running errands on the weekend.
1Me too torg! I actually caught the eyebrows piece this weekend and was laughing my ass off.
She was very complimentary of Obama's brows and suggested that McCain dye his to look younger.
I think it's sad but looks do matter. I think even if we claim they don't, our subconscious might be doing it anyway.
2I'm not sure saying looks matter is the same as saying a candidate has to be attractive. If that was the case, you wouldn't expect many current congressmembers to have jobs. Barney Frank isn't anyone's poster boy, and Dianne Feinstein looks like the mean principal of a a high school. Does anyone think Lieberman is a feast for the eyes?
3Keane's eyebrows do look girly.
I prefer Kaine's eyebrows to the ones that arewild and untamed. I had a professor with brows you could braid.
4I kind of love crazy eyebrows on old men. Like, Peter Gallagher style.
5NO torg. Have you seen them up close? Or had watch them bob up and down while listening to a lecture. His were long enough to touch his eyelashes.
6I'm with Lili, brows with a life of their own are not good.
7I always wanted to walk up clip them. He was the sweetest man.
8Peter Gallagher has bushy brows but his are groomed.
9Looks have mattered in politics ever since the advent of televised campaign coverage (Nixon sweating his face off during his televised debate with Kennedy comes to mind).
10I love the random REALLY ridiculously long eyebrow hair. Same with ear hair and nose hair.
hot edit
11I think looks can help, but they also hurt. Edwards, for example, probably would have been more successful if he had a big scar or something.
12A big scar and a chastity belt?
13
stephley!
14Or the scar on his nether region?
15A neutering scar
16Thank GOD he wasn't our candidate. WHEW!
