I've been waiting to hear this! After we checked out the candidates' favorite songs last week, some of you commented on Obama putting a song written for him on his top 10 — and McCain has a tribute song of his own!

Country singer John Rich of the Big & Rich Country band and Nashville Star, debuted "Raisin' McCain" live at an event earlier this month. As a "fight" song, it didn't get to me quite the way this one always does, but pretty cool nonetheless.
Check out the whole song — what do you think?

toby keith is a waste of air. just had to get that out there.
1"You can get on the train or get out of the way
2We're all just raisin' McCain"
Kind of our way or the highway, isn't it?
It's cool and it's on my MySpace and by blog sites.
3"toby keith is a waste of air. "
I could not agree more!!
4What does Toby Keith have to do with anything?
5I actually like the song.
6Exactly Mich. And steph, it is a country song from a country band. It is a different style. But I wouldn't expect you to have found even one note to your particular taste.
7I listen to some country artists, but I don't like the song. Maybe it's because I think very little of John McCain. Maybe I just don't like the song.
Toby Keith was mentioned because his song is also linked above.
8Speaking of Toby Keith was any one else ticked off by his recent comments. So saying he's a waste of air is being polite.
"During Keith's appearance on the July 30 broadcast of Beck's show, he remarked, "I think the black people would say he [Obama] don't talk, act or carry himself as a black person."

Wow Lil, thanks. I like Toby Keith as an artist. I just didn't know he had insight into how black people felt about Obama and how one carry themselves as black.
10I didn't think much of Toby Keith during his "feud" with the Dixie Chicks. This just confirmed for me that the man is an ignorant jerk.
11Lil, I don't follow the feuds. Furthermore, I would like to know what Keith what he meant by acting white. I wonder what his definition is of acting white.
12"What does that even mean?" the audibly shocked Beck replied.
"Well, I don't know what that means," Keith drawled, "but I think that that's what they would say. Even though the black society would pull for him I still think that they think in the back of their mind that the only reason he is in [the general election] is because he talks, acts and carries himself as a Caucasian."

I'd like to know what he meant by acting white as well. Does it have anything to do with language, style of dress, haircut, the way one walks? I'd really like to see someone ask Toby Keith for his definition.
13Lil, I can only say he is an expert on everything white and black - he must be very proud of himself.
14That Toby Keith song is ridiculous. It's embarrassing. "We'll stick a boot up your ass, it's the American Way!" ? Not my way.
Just curious, GreatSommelier, would you expect me to like it? It's catchy, but not my favorite country song.
15No, I wouldn't expect you to like it. Nothing you have ever said on this site, my only view into your world, would lead me to believe you would enjoy it.
16Because people with progressive politics don't like country music or just because I'm a democrat? Not trying to be challenging, just curious.
17When did we start talking about the entire genre of country music? I am talking about the two songs referenced.
18>When did we start talking about the entire genre of country music?
You did...
19"And steph, it is a country song from a country band. It is a different style."
In reference to how she felt about this song. I can cut and past out of context too.
20past = paste
21I'm sorry that I'm making you feel defensive, I'm really not trying to. I'm happy to consider the whole comment. I just used part for the sake of brevity:
"Exactly Mich. And steph, it is a country song from a country band. It is a different style. But I wouldn't expect you to have found even one note to your particular taste."
It is a different style from what?
22Other types of music.
23I obviously didn't write it as clearly as I could have. I was stating that country music tends to be pretty matter of fact sometimes. This song, being a country song, as well as the Keith song, falls into that genre.
24Okay. It kind of read like, "it's a different style than what you normally listen to," but I gotcha now.
And again, this is where I see someone brought up the genre as a whole...
25lol, sorry! i had waaaay to much cotton candy today! Sugar high I think.
26It's interesting that when a singer supports the wrong candidate, suddenly they are "never cared for", or is a "waste of air".
27I suppose that happens, but I've known Toby Keith was a douche since long before Obama was even running.
28That's why singers should just keep it to themselves. I think it's fair to assume that the majority of Big and Rich's audience is voting for McCain, but it still gets old. It can really hurt musicians sometimes, too. We all remember the Dixie Chicks flap.
29It made me like the Dixie Chicks more! But too bad it wasn't good for their record sales. IT made me laugh when people smashed their cds, or even better, bought their cds so they could smash them. What do they care?
30It really irritated me that she would say that because 1- it didn't make sense (he's not really from Texas!) and 2- she said it overseas instead of here at home. But I guess its a good thing in the end because the songs it inspired on their new album are really incredible songs.
31Bush isn't from Texas?
32Nope, born in Connecticut. But I guess you could say he's "from" Texas. It was just a silly thing for her to say because it didn't have any actual point. The reaction was unbelievable, though.
33Eh, per his official White House bio, he was raised in Texas, went to school in Texas, returned after college to buy the Texas Rangers and served as the Governor of Texas for four terms. I think that counts as being "from" there. I see why she said it. I'd be embarrassed to be from the same state, too. The reaction was ridiculous, though.
34I guess as a native Texan I'm a little picky about who gets to be "from" Texas
. It's
silly to be embarrassed to be from the same place as another person.
35Tell me about it. Almost every state has someone they can be embarrased about. IL has several, come to think about it.
36Why is that silly? People sure are proud of famous people they like being from their state or town. It's just the same concept in reverse.
37Well I think that's silly, too.
38Just and FYI but Tody Keith is a lifelong Democrat.
AND he likes America... soooooo I think he might be thrown out of the party soon
39an not and....
and TOBY keith.... haha Tody! Great name!
40Personally I'm a enjoy Kenny Chesney - esp. "She Thinks My Tractor's Sexy"
41JEBUS i CANNOT type today. I apoligize!
42I'm happy about anyone who votes democrat, but I still think he's a tool.
43Well he was probably stoned. I think he smokes a lot of pot. Which you would think would make him more agreeable!
44
45When my wife and I were first married, I was umpiring a baseball game, and she was sitting in the crowd. This teeny bopper was sitting next to her, and she mentioned to my wife: "Dave looks like Kenny Chesney, especially with a cowboy hat. Yeah, he'd be real hot!" This little girl was totally hot for me, and my wife just laughed.
Nice! Its too bad Kenny wears it to cover his bald head. He should be bald and proud!
46Unfortunately, I've gained a whole lot more weight than Kenny, and no longer look like him, other than the balding head.
47I don't care who Toby Keith votes for he's a joke. After I saw his Ford commercials I thought about writing the company to complain. I have nothing against Big & Rich. I just don't like the song.
48toby keith is a joke. he's divisive. and as far as the argument that country music is "more to the point" than other genres... that's so not true. ever listen to hip hop or rap? just because toby keith is not possessed with the gift of metaphor i'm not going to cut him slack for singing crappy new-country with an overzealous patriotic-maniac bent. there's plenty of good country music that came out before 1980 that i'd much rather listen to. like dolly parton, glen campbell, graham parsons, the carter family... the list goes on.
sincerely,
the wichita line(wo)man
49Ooh, or Lyle Lovett. And John Prine.
I'm not a fan of new-school country. The genre lost me at "Redneck Woman."
