Denver Convention Flashback: Pictures of DNC 1908
Citizen and I are headed to Denver this week, along with the Democratic Party, which is returning to the city after a 100-year hiatus! In 1908 the Democrats gathered in Denver to choose a nominee to be president of the 88 million Americans alive at that time. The 1908 Democratic National Convention was the first major-party convention in a Western state, and the first to host female delegates. Check out these great pictures of the first Democratic National Convention held in Denver. The photos give you an even better view than the one nominee William Jennings Bryan had — considering he didn't even attend his own convention!

Oh, I didn't realize this was also a 100 year anniversary thing. Very cool.
1It's interesting, after spending last night flipping from news channel to news channel, to think that then people didn't have instant, even same day, access to the news and details from the conventions.
2is it a coincidence about when they are returning to Denver or is it intentional? cause if it's intentional - then perhaps they would have the same thing happen in following years.
anyway, i can't wait to see how the convention turns out - how the speeches are and what the end results are with the delegates. although we know what the outcome will most likely be - it'll be great to see who was able to be convinced to shift their votes so that we have a candidate that achieves the numerical point that needs to be met.
you definitely have to let us know about the NON-POLITICAL activities though - the celebs, their movies, and their music.
3Ah, historic Denver. I think that building in the 17th and Tremont picture, the one on the left, is still there. And the huge convention building is now the opera house! It looks the same... but so different, somehow. I didn't even recognize it!
I'm super excited - I can't wait to go to the convention just to see all the action or whatever. A lot of people here in Denver are all so blase' about it - they all say to just stay home and avoid the traffic (it's like the Denverite's #1 concern: how long will it take to get there or home?)... but I say, how many times will one be able to experience this?
4Those photos are fabulous.
