Hold up y'all, I don't hear any kind of lady singing on the Democratic nomination just yet! The Obama and Clinton camps have just come to an agreement that will allow Clinton's name to be put up for nomination, too. A source close to the development says, "both sides agree that it is in the best interest of party unity and making sure that everyone's voice and vote is honored to make sure her name is put into nomination. It's to honor everyone who worked so hard on both sides."
Aimed at healing hurt feelings from the 18 million cracks in the glass ceiling, the deal, according to a Clinton camp source, "truly was a joint decision. This wasn't something she was itching for, looking for. But so many of her supporters said it was important to them. And the Obama people got how important it was to smooth over any tensions and that it was the right thing to do."

Here's how it will go down: after both Clinton and Obama names are put forward for nomination, there will be a roll call vote — that's where Clinton supporters could make a difference. It's not incredibly likely given they've planned for the next step, too — at some point during the convention, Clinton will release her delegates officially to Obama and she'll make it crystal clear that she is voting for Obama.
Is this an exciting development, a distracting charade, or just a nice gesture? I'm looking forward to seeing it go down with Liberty in Denver!

4I don't think this is a great idea, but if people feel the need then maybe it will help.
I honestly don't feel that this would be necessary if the primary process had been more respectful. I feel that the Obama campaign is being blamed for sexism that occurred in the media, even though he and his campaign had nothing to do with it. I wish Hillary would speak up a bit louder to clarify that.

8Isn't this what the convention is for? We're all so use to a (clear) victor early on in the primary that many of us haven't had to deal with the ceremonial procedure of the delegates actually choosing the nominee at the convention.
I don't think this is inappropriate and I don't think this is a big deal. Like I said before let the delegates actually do something besides sit there wave signs and eat hot dogs for four or five days.

11Hypno, there is going to be plenty of activity at the convention. They are really organizing it as a way to train people to go out and work during the last 2 months of the campaign.
I can't remember the stats, but the 2nd place primary contestant haven't had their name put in for decades, I believe.

I think it would be a nice gesture. As such an avid Hillary supporter, it
would make me feel better about turning my vote over to Obama (not that I dislike him, I just love her) and letting her go to hear more about her support of him.

Though I will probably be happy when Obama is the official, official nominee. My friend swears Al Gore is going to throw his hat in at the last minute like on West Wing.

18I find it frustrating, but I'm not a terribly emotional voter. I chatted with a man whose first choice for president was Romney, then Clinton, then McCain. Hunh? I don't know him well, but I had to think, you are not voting on the issues, dude! I roll my eyes whenever a politician says "family values" or bites a big cheesesteak in Philadelphia, but that's what it takes to get voted in by our insane electorate who cares as much about pansuits as they do about health care.

22The only reason I can see for this is that she ISN'T going to be the VP candidate, and they are trying to soften the blow to her supporters that are holding out for that. It doesn't really make sense to me.
23I agree hf. The only thing this does is reopen a wound that should've been closing nicely. Hillary lost, let's all take a collective breath and move on (Isn't there a website for that?)

25Obama had his volunteers make thousands of hand written postcards to send to her supporters. I do think he has made a very big effort to soothe feelings.
PS. I heard whispers online that now Colin Powell might be speaking at the convention.
26I've heard that, but Powell keeps saying it isn't true. I do find it interesting that he isn't attending the Republican Convention though.
27Jillness, I did'nt know about the postcards. I guess not all of us got them. (My campaign contribution was kinda small) That is a nice gesture.
