Since we all spend more time with our co-workers than our loved ones, it makes sense that some of you have a desire to work with your significant other, but what about working with a family member? In Hollywood, parents oftentimes double as their children's managers, but oftentimes it can backfire, (remember what happened with Macaulay Culkin?) resulting in a tainted work and personal relationship. Having a momager seemed to work for Usher for a few years until news of a split hit the wire back in May, 2007. No one knows the details surrounding their breakup, but it couldn't have been all that bad because he's rehired her as his manager!

I know my parents would only have my best interests at heart but even so, I'm not so sure it would be a good idea to mix business with family. What about you? Would working with your family members be a good idea or a bad idea?

i think its a bad idea...especially with inlaws
1i think the same goes with friends
I work with my family. Most of the time its good, but sometimes its not just depends I guess. Its a love/hate relationship working with my family.
2i know i couldn't do it
3i love my family, they're my best friends, but i couldn't
Working with family......well, I know a lot of people who do it, but I wouldn't ever want to. I have a friend who runs a cash business. He says that family steals but not as much as outsiders, so he only hires family now.
4Personally, I couldn't. I find that family takes liberties with you that they never would with a 'real' job, and when it comes to my money I do not play. Three hour lunch break? Really, you best start spending that time looking for another job. And then what happens? The whole family gets involved and you look like the bad person for firing family. OR if you work together for someone else, say your sister does something embarrasing people automatically connect it to you, or if she gets fired people will be giving you the side eye like you're going to do something to retaliate [I went to school with a bunch of crazy cousins and worked with one for a while].
5Oh my gosh, that is Usher with bangs and lipstick! I had no idea he looked so much like his mom. Yea bad idea working with the mom, did it before and I always ended up agitated at work. It's very hard to maintain a professional relationship.
6BAD IDEA. My parents and I are too different. I could never work with them-- we would constantly be bickering. Also, I think it's a good idea to differentiate between a professional and a personal relationship. If your mom is your manager/agent, and you two have differing views, how awkward is it to have a talk about what she's doing wrong, or even worse, FIRE HER? Eek!
