If you're not trying to become pregnant, a late period can be no fun. It's so tough to just be patient and wait for Aunt Flo to show up, so that's where emmenagogues come in. It's a long name for a category of herbs and plants that are believed to induce menstruation.
Supposedly they work by stimulating blood flow to a woman's pelvic area. Some of these plants include celery, parsley, yarrow, aloe vera, mugwort, swiss chard, and hemp.
I don't want to put down herbal remedies, but scientifically speaking, the time your period comes is all based on when you ovulate. So if something affected your body from ovulating such as stress or illness then you'll ovulate later, which means your period will also come later. If you do take one of these emmenagogues, and your period comes, it's likely that it's just one big coincidence and your period would have showed up whether you sipped parsley tea or not.
Of course, this is just my opinion so what do you think? Have you ever heard about herbs, essentials oils, foods, or techniques that can induce menstruation? I'd love to hear about them and whether or not they really worked!

this is an old wives tale. just like strapping a potato to your head when you have a fever- somehow it just 'SUCKS' the fever out. i mean some people like to believe that it's a miracle treatment but ....meeeh....
1Sesame seeds. Or so I've heard.
2i dunno about herbal remedies...to me its pretty rediculous trying to pin point whichs herbs do what to the body because everyone is different and everyone will react different.
one thing thats always worked with me if i'm a few days late is orgasms! kinda weird, but if i notice i'm off schedule and i have one the day after i'll usually get my period. maybe its the surge of hormones or something?
3I'm seriously irregular (every 6 months) and drinking a parsley infusion works fantastically. Take a bunch, boil it down to one cup (takes a while to boil down that far) and drink. It always arrives less than a week later (though from what I hear it works much faster for most). I have a regular period because of it.
4I had really late periods a few times. I took flax seed oil, and it leveled out my hormones. (Hormones are made from fatty acids.) So although I don't think it was what made my period start, it did regulate my entire cycle long term, giving me on-time periods thereafter.
I also know girls who have no period at all, six months or longer, unless they take really good-quality vitamin e supplements. When they do take the supplements, their cycles run like clockwork.
5I'd rather just skip it anyway so I wouldn't even bother with this.
6aspirin
just stop taking it at the first sight of your period
7Ugh, mine is a few days late now, starting to freak out. Do these really work?
8I heard papaya works quite well.
9I heard papaya works quite well.
10this works like a charm for me. i mean not like i can know that the parsley tea causes it, but i would definitely go without the premenstrual symptoms etc before drinking the stuff. they definitely act on the uterus and stimulate the blood flow down there.
