I decided to do a little Summer cleaning this weekend and I realized something about myself — I'm a pack rat! I have no idea why I was holding onto this stuff, but I finally gave away clothes I've had since high school, old receipts, even a few mix tapes! I guess I've always been too afraid to give anything away in case I'll want it months from now. Are you the same way? Do you tend to hold onto unnecessary clutter?

I used to be but a couple of cross country moves really makes you think about what you need to keep and what you need to get rid of.
1cubadog, i'm the same!
i used to be, and i still kinda am, but every once and awhile i purge and, while sometimes i see myself reverting to my old ways, i totally have the ability to toss useless stuff even when i'm conflicted
2i was that kid who would have some halloween candy lingering in february, and the kid who would never use stickers or stationary cuz i was "saving" them
3i tend to keep stupid things...but every now and then I go through and chuck EVERYTHING! I threw out SO much junk when I moved out of my paretns!
4not at all! Sometimes it feels like I throw out more than I buy (though that's obviously not true). I'm always throwing out things I don't need and giving away clothes I don't like anymore.
The bf is absolutely horrified by it.. he keeps EVERYTHING! it drives me nuts!
5I am, but I'm not. I literally keep everything I ever touch until every couple weeks I go into what my sister calls my "clean out freak out." Where I totally chunk anything unnecessary and get completely clean.
6I do hold on to clothes that I don't need. I'm one of those people that thinks I'll be back into my high school jeans in a year. haha! yeah right!
7It took a cross-country move to teach me that I could survive one and now my purges are every couple of years.
8My mum is a pack-rat and in my everlasting quest to be totally unlike her I'm the total opposite of pack-rat whatever that is. 90% of my clothes is 1-2yrs old, I have a few "favorite" items that I've had for 3 or 4 yrs . . I don't keep any receipts once I've checked my credit cards bills or if it's passed the exchange date. I recycle all my magazines before the new ones come. There are only a few things I regret getting rid of, once was when I accidentally donated my computer keyboard, that sucked
!!!
9I get it from my parents.
10I throw away anything I don't use
11I get it from my parents. As a matter of fact, the other day my mom found a box of magazines from 10 years ago and still kept it!
12I keep everything. Books, papers, clothes, shoes, toys, you name it, I have it. When I move all of it is going to go!
13I used to be, and I also used to be really messy - something clicked when I moved out on my own, though, and now I only keep the absolute necessities or important things and try to keep things as neat and tidy as my time will allow
14yea i am....i get it from my mom but shes like 100 time worse.
15i get separation anxiety
I def get it from my parents. I have a hard time letting go of things. Luckily, I have a storage shedto keep *most* of it out of the way.
16I even have a hard time tossing old papers, bills, etc. but I am working on it.
clothes yes, everything else no.
17Sugar, my dear, you wrote this post for Auntie Eeeee!
I solve my problem by simply hauling everything----old dog toys, Esquire Magazines that I MUST read, party invitations that I've kept for four years, etc, etc-----to a storage space. I arrive, fling open the doors, toss the stuff in, slam the doors and just lock the buggers UP!
This way I don't have to go through the calamitous trahhhhhhma of throwing
anything away.
But it is OUT of the house.
18I generally keep things for a long period of time, but once I see that I haven't even so much as picked it up in a year (sometimes longer), I throw it away.
19I tend to hold onto things. Once a year I try to clean out the things I know I don't want or need. But, I have rubber maid totes full of books.
20There are some things that I throw away and some that I don't. I usually give away things that people might want, like notes from school and stuff like that. But I do keep books, receipts (even the ones from ages ago), and greeting cards. I throw everything else.
21I hate clutter and extra crap. I get rid of it any chance i get.
22omg my mom iS!! Im helping her move...she is a single person and it took 4 Uhaul trucks to move her stuff. And Im talking big U-hauls... its crazy! It's going to take a year to unpack all that stuff!
23I used to keep everything, but then I opened my eyes and looked around my mother's house...and I did not want to become like her. There was so much stuff that she couldn't keep it all straight, and there was dust all over the place because it took so much time to maintain everything. So now I feel good when I get rid of things, and I do it often.
24I throw out anything out that I don't need! It feels amazing!
25I usually keep all my old notes, tests, and books from previous classes. HAHA. Even if I know I'll never need them. I guess for "just in case." I also have most of my old notes from middle school, and pictures friends gave me. I also keep movie stubs or tickets from dates with my boyfriend, and all the manuals to my appliances. I also keep important documents, even ones from high school, that I don't need anymore. I have my immunization card somewhere, as well as my high school ID cards.
26By notes from middle school, I meant notes my friends wrote me.
27Ha skigurl I did the same thing with stickers, I never used them because I didn't want them to go to waste!
I've been better, but every month I really should go through all my stuff. I still have way too much.
28I go through my stuff a couple times a year. I have a hard time throwing anything away. I put things i havent used in a while but am not sure of in a box, tape it up, chuck the date on it and put it under my bed. If it's not been opened 3 months later i throw the whole box out...
29I am getting better at throwing stuff away. We just bought our first house and we don't want it to be a mess.
I have been going through things and throwing them away. I find things that i don't understand why i kept, like a receipt from a tow truck company when we had to have a car towed like 4 years ago. Why did i keep that? We are really trying to get rid of a lot of stuff, so i am planning on having a yard sale at least i can make some money off of my stuff instead of throwing it away.
I have also started watching the show Clean House and that has made me think more about keeping less. I really don't want my house to end up looking like a house on that show
30Because clutter and mess keep me insane and get me stressed, I always purge every week. It tends to make my life more manageable, less stressed and I feel lighter and my surroundings a lot cleaner and neater.
Liss--I also love watching Clean House.
31I'm a total pack rat, but I purge like crazy, so it doesn't seem like I have a lot of stuff. Basically, I keep what I love, and donate what I hate.
32I'm a pack rat in general but its all neat and organized..and randomly I'll go out and chuck all the REALLY unnecessary stuff out.
33I used to be ...
