No matter how much some feminists try to reclaim the word "slut," it sounds too harsh to my ears. Don't get me wrong — I am totally behind the idea of taking the wind out of its sails, though. It's a cliché complaint, but it's true: there's no equivalent word for a man who sleeps around. So I say let's embrace the idea with a word we can love. What's your favorite old-fashioned word for "slut"?

Opening Ceremony
Pearce ll Fionda
Tipster
I picked Jezebel, but I also like Harlot, Floozy, Tramp, and Hussy.
1I picked Strumpet, but also like Tart. What I didn't see on there and would have voted for is Trollop.
2Good one, buffyanne! How could I forget trollop!
3I like strumpet because it's rhymes with crumpet. Delicious!
4Oh let me add one to your list:
Trollop!
5oh lol, just saw the comments above..must learn to read all before posting
6One of my friends in high school used to call them "women of ill repute."
7i have to say "floozy."
megatron, "women of ill repute," lol. i like that.
8I like strumpet. It's so happy sounding.
Floozy's a good one too. I feel like I've said that before.
I've never heard of Trollop, though, but I like the sound of it...
9I always loved "minx" - can't say why, but I like it. It's kinda cute. *lol*
10Strumpet sounds both musical and yummy, but I also like "man-trap."
11lol @ the above comments about lady of ill repute: when i was about 7 my dad asked me to help him pick out fabric to reupholster our couches...of course, i picked the garish red velvet, which prompted my father to say that our living room would then look like "a house of ill repute"...my mother hustled me out of the room without further ado. ah, family. (oh, and STRUMPET and TROLLOP are tied in my slut book.)
12Trollop is a great word. So are Tart, Hussy, Floozy, Minx, and Strumpet. Giggle, this is one of the best polls in a long time!
13That's a hilarious story, piksie! He knew you'd never figure that one out! Well, maybe later.
14fornicatress?
sounds AWESOME!!
15im gonna have to start using that.
Paris Hilton.
16i just love the word floozy...
this list cracks me up!
17STRUMPET FTW! Good ol' Shakespeare
18My mom used to call the girls that called the house, "harlots"
19Jezebel and trollop work for me. Growing up though, my mom would drive through the red-light district to point out such ladies, threatening me that I would suffer the same fate if I didn't obey her every word. She would say: "If you don't behave, you'll become like these women--GORGONIAS!"
(Gorgonia, I think, is another name for Medusa.)
20loriginale, Gorgonia sounds like a strumpet-monster!
21I like Lady of the night, wh*re, tramp and bimbo. Also LOOOVE Scarlet woman
22wh*re. some of those sound kind of cute, so i wouldn't use them to actually call someone that, lol. everyone i've ever heard called a minx was in a cute, sort of casting a spell on a man way.
23Another vote for trollop! My best friends from high school used to have this game where one person would start with trollop and we'd just trade as many as we could think of back and forth until we couldn't keep a straight face. 6 years later and we still do it... classic
24wench!
25it's between jezebel & hussy for me.
26i particularly like jezebel, though, because it reminds me of a Chappelle's Show skit, where the lady thought she was being prank called by her boyfriend's mistress and Star-69'd the caller and called her a "clap havin' jezebel", among other things. "IT WAS THE WRONG NUMBER!" hehe
trallop lol
27omg loringnale that is one scary mom!!
28I have to go with McCain's favorite: Trollop!
29Floozy for me but my Grandma still calls little hookers "red headed hussy!"
30I picked floozy, but it was a toss up between that and jezebel.
31These are great!
Strumpet and Minx can be terms of endearment.
32I've always loved Harlot. No confusing what you mean, but softer than many of the other words in the list.
slattern
33i love that someone put paris hilton!
34lol i totally agree!
one vote 4 that 1
Slattern! Nice one, siggie stardust! And superjules, your avatar is making me hungry!
35Fornicatress is hilarious.
36I have one to add: My grandmother used to use the word "chippie".. I still use it to this day, but it's not a very commonly known one...love this post
37A toss-up between "harlot" and "strumpet," methinks!
38I was disappointed to see that trollop didn't make the list; that's easily my favorite along with the too-long phrase "woman of ill repute"
39Harlot!
40I've always liked scarlet woman...but woman of ill repute comes in at a very close second
41Chippie! Yes! And "slag"! And "schlampe"!
42How about bint? As in:
"If I went around sayin' I was Emperor, just because some moistened bint lobbed a scimitar at me, they'd put me away!" Thank you, Monty Python.
Tart, hussy, and floosy are too good to choice between...so good!
43The Brits have one that sounds extremely mean: Slag.
But my favorite has always been "trollop".
44sausage wallet is by far my favorite!!
