Bush has said he will sign the bill once it passes the Senate, perhaps by Saturday. - Libya Cuts Off Swiss Oil:
Libya says it has stopped oil shipments to Switzerland to protest the brief arrest of leader Muammar Gaddafi's son. The country has threatened further punishment if the Swiss don't apologize. The Swiss police held Hannibal Gaddafi for two days after he and his pregnant wife allegedly assaulted Swiss officers. The move could prove costly for both parties as Switzerland gets half of its oil from Libya, and Libya has a huge oil refinery in Switzerland.

3I have six figures in private, variable rate school loans that I took out while I was doing my undergrad. Since this seems very similar to a high rate mortgage, does anyone know if it's possible to get the Fed to tax others to pay for my school loans too?
4so this bill will help those who have loans only with those 2 lenders? Does that mean that only those with loand with those lenders will be taxed? I'm confused.

personally I think it's un freaking believable... I agree with Dave, those of us who have worked hard and have owned homes for years and have owned homes within our price range now have to pay for others poor choices? How about we tax the realtors and lenders themselves for a)convincing the people they can afford the house and b) actually giving them the loan when it was clear that it would be a struggle to pay it?

9This cell phone risk is the real deal. If you don't want to save yourself by using technology to keep the phone away from your head, AT LEAST keep cell phones completely away from your children.
10I agree with you all about this loan thing - crazy! Maybe mandatory budgeting and living within your means lessons should accompany that bail-out! I support wiping out your studen loans, mymellowman and bellaressa.

12you know i overextended myself a few years ago and ran up a lot of debt. i have very slowly been paying it off by living within my means and operating from a cash only world - meaning if i don't have the money for something, then i don't buy it until i do. i am finally seeing a light at the end of the tunnel and look forward to being completely debtfree soon. you know i didn't have any help from anyone else to clean up the mess that i created so it's nice to know that the taxes that i pay are going to bail other people out
13How alarmist. Perhaps one day they will find minimal to negligible effects, if any, with prolonged and incessant use of cell phones. But honestly, were there to be such harmful outcomes with cell phone use - warranting Herberman's warning - they would have been manifest in the countless studies already conducted. Replicated over and over, no negative outcomes have been conclusively found.
I suppose I take issue with such a blanket statement when made by an expert. Their opinion is taken as gospel by many when in reality the situation remains all but equivocal.
14Torgleson - perhaps he feels that the longer one uses cell phones, the greater the risk, thus children should resist using cell phones for as long as possible in order to minimize their exposure.

16It's one thing to be cautious. It's another to be alarmist. If cell phones are dangerous, then shouldn't the signal the towers broadcast be just as dangerous? If cell phones are so bad, shouldn't we eliminate them? The research doesn't support the conclusion.

21I actually just graduated from a liberal arts school in Massachusetts, and so I don't know quite yet. *Fingers crossed* I can return to the greater Boston area (where I went to school)...I would be so happy if I could!!
