John McCain's having a little contest over on his website letting us vote on his new campaign poster. The finalists are up now, check out the top 10 designs submitted by supporters. Fun! But the buzz around the Internet today is over the giant head in the clouds, shining almighty heaven motif of choice #1. Talking Points Memo posted it saying, "it's lucky for McCain that Barack Obama is the one with a hubris problem. Otherwise, this McCain poster in support of his campaign to be elected God might raise some eyebrows. . . ." I giggled.
Speaking of Obama's (perceived! By comedians!) Jesus-complex, last night on The Daily Show, in the segment following Obama's semester abroad, titled "Obama Quest: The Legend Begins, Continues" Jon Stewart mentioned a little side trip Obama had to make to Bethlehem. It seems a certain manger from a very early point in his past needed visiting . . . watch and see.

This is definitely more obnoxious than Obama's faux presidential seal.
1Except McCain has nothing to do with this one. Obama proudly stood behind his.
2McCain is very lucky to have such devoted support as yours, GS.
3If it's on his official website, he's standing proudly behind it.
4Devoted? I can barely stand the guy. And I find that must be tongue in cheek coming from you.
5As I say, I can barely stand the guy about MC, but I can't even tolerate a hair on BO's head. Ergo, a vote for MC. Lesser of two evils.
6It wasn't tongue in cheek - you're quick on defense for whatever reason.
7More so than anyone else on this site? IS there a holding up a mirror emoticon?
8I have no snarky intent - actually was feeling casual and conversational.
9Well, then, I am sorry I took offense. The hormones surging through my body have shortened my fuse a bit. Just ask my poor husband. Wait, he isn't poor, he did this to me!!
10I just find it hilarious that George W. Bush and now John McCain has convinced a sizable % of the population that the most direct and common sense path to peace and security is threw military action. That poster is ridiculous, intellectually dishonest, and insulting to the humanity in all of us that can do better.
11At least you've got your sense of humor. I'm off to the bus home, take care.
12hypno, it's pretty barbaric, but the best way to keep people from hassling you is to let them know that, if they try, you'll kick their butts. Peace through Superior Firepower, you know.
Actually, this poster reminds me of the Obama Rolling Stone cover from March. It even had clouds and lightning behind his head. Then there's the one from July 10, with him beaming beatifically downward, as though he's seated on a cloud and smiling beatifically over us all.
This is also the most dramatic of the ten finalists. Follow the link Citizen gave to see the others.
13Sorry for repeating an adjective. You can replace a "beatifically" with a "blissfully", if that helps.
14In other news...
DETROIT (AP)—Caleb Campbell will not get a chance to play for the Detroit Lions because of a change in military policy.
Campbell was a seventh-round draft pick for the Lions in April. At the time, Army policy would have allowed the West Point graduate to serve as a recruiter if he made the team.
But a subsequent Department of Defense policy has superseded the 2005 Army policy.
In a letter to Lions president Matt Millen dated Wednesday, U.S. Army Lt. Col. Jonathan P. Liba wrote that Campbell has been ordered to give up professional football for “full-time traditional military duties.”
Liba wrote that 2nd Lt. Campbell may ask to be released from his active duty obligations in May 2010.
Liba said Campbell was allowed to enter the draft “in good faith.”
15Have to give praise to Obama on this one!
16Im for McCain too! God bless America and our troops!
17God should not enter the equation when choosing a presidential candidate. I'm all for anyone that promotes the right to religious freedom without pushing their beliefs on anyone.
18emilyinfini... I wanted to shout "Amen" to your post but then I realized that would be contradictoray lol.. seriously I agree totally with you.
19*contradictory... it's early, my fingers are faster than my brain - well heck that's nothing new...
20Lainetm once again I do agree with your point but IMO to intellectualy corner the American public into thinking and surrendering to the notion that it is the only way is simply manipulative for a purpose and dishonest across the board.
21I don't think religion should enter the equation, but it's interesting that Obama is much more outspoken about his faith than McCain.
22That McCain one looks like the cover of a Christian self-help book.
23Anyone else find it a bit ironic that "Peace is born of wisdom" would be the poster slogan for a guy that was singing "Bomb bomb, Iran" only months ago?
24Sadly Rabid, too many people would not.
