Relationships are all about sharing, from feelings to responsibilities. But some things are not as easily shared as others, like driving. I’ve found that many individuals in relationships consider themselves a better driver than their counterpart so much so that they either demand to be the driver or won’t allow their significant other to drive their car. And all the way on the other end of the spectrum, there are the couples who argue over who should have to drive because neither wants to. Sure, it’s just driving, but I think it’s also an issue of control. So how do you and your boyfriend divvy up the driving? And who’s the better driver?

My boyfriend and I could really care less. I consider him to be the more experianced driver, so he usually is the driver...but on long times and stuff we share the wheel because everyone hates long-ass highway drives
1Well growing up in NYC I never had my license or a need to drive until I stayed in Philly after college graduation 2 years ago. Since I literally just got a car in May, he usually drives..I still get scared! lol..he on the other hand is up to his 4th new car since he was 16..(he is 25) so he is super comfortable
2I am a way better driver than my boyfriend
, haha. He gets distracted to easily, like
if he's looking for something. He often runs red lights and stop signs just because he's not paying attention. With that said, I still let him drive quite a bit because I don't like to make
him feel bad. I just end up yelling stop at every red light or stop sign, lol.
3it depends on who's car it is, i guess
4oftentimes i let my boyfriend drive my car, just because he knows how to get to where we're going or whatever
my dad always drives when he and my mom go places so i think i always got used to the man driving, but it doesn't really matter to me
i love driving, but i also dont mind being the passenger
He drives...the car doesn't matter...he drives his/mine/my mom's/his brother's...I don't care, I rather don't drive.
5my boyfriend is a much better driver than I am, so he drives most of the time. But if we're going some place close by, or going to visit one of my friends or my family, I'll drive because that's only fair.
6It's not that he is a better driver. I just tend to get angry when I drive, and I really hate driving, so he drives. We used to switch drivers on longer trips, but now he just drives, which is the way I like it. If I could get rid of my car, I would!
7I hate driving, and he likes it, so he drives 99% of the time.
8he makes me way too paranoid when he is in the car and I drive, due to his criticizing every move I make. So I just said eff it you can do ALL the driving.
9LOL Missyd, I am in the same situation! Every now and then I am the driver, but it's usually him.
I enjoy driving cause that means I control the music
Although I tend to take over in
his car too, muahaha.
10My husband drives unless he has business calls to make then I take over. I really don't like driving him otherwise, because he makes too many comments about my driving.
11I think I'm the better driver - but perhaps I just may be the faster driver. He drives like a grandpa and he does most the driving when we're together. Sometimes I almost go out of my mind because he's puttering down the road complaining about other drivers (yet he's the one holding up traffic). Arrgh!
12We're both really good drivers, but whenever we're together, he drives.
13He drives, I have absolutely no problem with it whatsoever..lol
I just hate driving
bc I get distracted too easily.
14I've only had one girlfriend I felt safe letting drive my car or really riding in her car. There are actually very few friends I feel comfortable riding in a car with for that matter. Too many of them drive recklessly or I find that I can't help myself from pressing on the floor with my foot as if I was actually driving the car.
15Well usually he drives and we take his car. But if we are going on road trips, we take my car ( i can't really drive stick shift) so that we can share, but he wants to do most of the driving. He hates my driving...he is more laid back driver, i am def a type "a", aggressive driver...but, it is because I live in DC and drive around in that mess so when i go back to his rural town to visit, my driving style is a bit inappropriate...lmao
16Our car is one of my boyfriends dream cars. So he drives 99% of the time. But if I ask to drive he has no problem with it.
17He is a good driver but he tries to race EVERYONE! Example: Little grandma in her lincoln passes him...he wont have it and he will speed up just to make sure she doesnt pass.. I told him there is probably some theropy out there for that!
It usually depends on what's going on with the cars:
-I have a great parking spot, and I ain't movin' (
-his car needs to be washed
-don't feel like driving
-don't feel like putting more (enough for the trip)gas in the car right now
-you are NOT going to put your gym stuff in my trunk so it can smell like 10 dead pigs
18I'm definitely a better driver than my boyfriend. And it's funny how when I drive, he tries to tell me how to drive when he's the one who drives crazy and I'm the one who freaks out when he drives! Haha.
19Oh! And he drives most of the time.. So we don't really divvy up the driving, only sometimes.
20With the exception of DD, he drives...always!
21We don't have problems deciding who drives; if he's bringing me to places I've never been to, he would drive, and vice versa. We usually take my beetle 'cos it has better mileage than his. The only thing I don't do around him is drive fast, 'cos he would always tell me to drive exactly as what the speed limit states.
22My guy friends normally drive simply because I am an awful driver! A bit of a distracted speed demon! I love driving though especially road trips! And I can be a good driver, but no one believes me unless they have seen me with my little cousins or grandma!
23I love to drive and I consider myself a great driver, so I feel powerless sometimes when other people drive me around. I hate it when my dad drives because he is one of those people who get easily stressed on the road.
24It's my boyfriend's car, so when we're going somewhere, my boyfriend usually drives. He enjoys it more, so I let him, but he hasn't got any problems with me driving his car, with or without him in it, if I want to drive, he'll let me.
25i don't mind driving sometimes. but i like for him to drive in heavy traffic, but then i get the "omg's, ahhs...stop!!! ya trying to kill us?!!" and all that, it would be better for him if i were to sedate myself
26I have a long drive to work everyday, so if I dont have to drive I dont. I always let my BF drive my car. But im still in control of the radio.
