I talk about love on a daily basis with the assumption that we've all been in love before when in fact, that isn't necessarily the case. Loving someone and being in love with someone are totally different emotions and while using the L Word means something different to everyone, what I want to know is, have you ever truly been in love?

i'm only 18, so i have yet to experience the phenomenon that is love.
1I did love once.
The love I had for my 1st love was pure and innocent.
Those were the happiest days of my life when I lived it next to him.
Unfortunately, due to circumstances, I was not able to be with him.
I think some True Loves don't always end up together due to circumstances.
perhaps they meet again in there next life time.
That's my opinion of course.
The person I am with now, I love him, but the love I have for him is more of a family love. He has been in my life for so long that I can't see him out of it.
2I was never really madly in love with him.
I am still down for him though.
I've been in love a LOT. I love being in love! I don't feel the need to hold back my emotions... when I care deeply about someone, I express it.
3I've been in lust and I loved a few girls, but I do not believe I have been in love with anyone, not even a former almost Mrs. Clarby (don't ask, I'm learning the err of my ways.) I think every relationship makes me reconsider the definition. When I was in high school and college I would use the word because I thought I had to when dating a girl. With one girl I found myself saying it every few minutes it seemed and the word lost its meaning. I now use it only around family and dear friends. I wouldn't trade the relationships I've had and I hope none of those women feel slighted but I think you've got to know when you feel it and if I have any doubt, then I have never truly been in love with someone.
4No, I haven't! I know I want to be in love and I can be but it just hasn't happened yet. I also don't think anyone has been in love with me. I hope I'm worth the trouble! anyway, I guess I'll just sit back and wait, you cannot control these things and I'm only 22.
5i'm in the same boat as tangy. 18 and never been in love. i'm in no rush though. whatever will be, will be.
6I thought that I was in love with every guy I dated. I'm a serial monogamist with long term relationships, so it's only been a few people. I started dating my husband and it was the same thing, but as we grew up together I realized that I love easily. I love my friends and my family and I did love the few guys I dated, but what grew is that I am in love with my husband. It's an indescribable difference that took me a long time to ascertain.
7Yes. Twice. Both the biggest, worst mistakes ever. Largest blows to my slightly fragile ego.
8Yes, and the first time we said "i love you" we were in Barcelona so this picture brought back some memories
9I've never been deeply in love with anybody either. I think a lot of people are in LUST not LOVE but they just don't know it, or they just won't admit to only lusting for someone physically. Most people honestly know when they have no mental or personality connection to the other person at all, they just want to be around them because of how they physically look to them.
10Definitely.
11But I always left in unsaid, it was just in the air, she knew, I knew she knew and she knew I knew she knew.
So there, no words necessary!
And I expect never, and hopefully ever love someone like that again. It was far too compromised and dangerous. I'd like to take things lightly and no so seriously next time.
I've been in love once and had my heart broken into a million pieces as a result. Looking back on it though, I don't regret the experience and I don't resent him. He showed me that I can let my guard down and trust someone completely and as cheesy as it sounds I'm very grateful for that. With every relationship, whether it's love or not, you learn a little bit about yourself and about other people.
12I'm so totally in love, and falling in love was the most wild roller coaster I've ever been on! My heart's been smashed and taped back together a few times, I've cried tears of sadness, anger, and happiness and I still wouldn't trade my love for anything in the whole world.
13i am in love--its a crazy feeling-- and when i had feel for him it was like suddenly it hit me...
in past relationships i had thought i was in love but all were different forms:
my first boyfriend was puppy love
second boyfriend was more lust than love really. esp. when i can't really see why we were together other than pure physical attraction
third we will forget..
and now with my fiance-- its just hard to put it into real words... but i am definitely 10000% in love
14Like everyone else I thought I was "in love" once. Needless to say, I was stupid. I don't let my heart or emotions go very easily so when I found myself with these feelings I didn't recognize that I was really just in love with that... the feeling. The feeling of being cared for, being held, being wanted, being needed. That ridiculous feeling can mask reality. The reality of being played, or cheated, or being made a fool of. Luckly I realized my mistake and asked God to change my ways. And boy did He! He took me to the end of the Earth and back. Now I cherish the relationships He is bringing in my life. BUT I am much more careful with my heart. It may hurt me now, but in the long run I believe it will be worth it for the one that gets my true love.
15Yes...with my ex but circumstances broke us up...but when we were happy and good...man was it something. Cheesy but the world just seemed ok when I was cuddled up in his arms.
16I've been in love and still am... but due to circumstances, we cannot be together.
17I thought I had been in love in a previous relationship but when I feel truly in love with my fiance it was the most tangible feeling I had ever had and I know it was my first true love (and my last!) . . . Girl friends ask me to explain the feeling and I always say that I really feel "love" like a touchable object (ok i know so lame but you asked!). Best of luck in love for everyone who visits Sugar-sites
18I've been in love with someone who wasn't in love with me. Does that count?
19yeah I'm with December... I've had a one sided love... thats the biggest test I've ever been through.
20I've thought I was in love many times, but only been deeply, truly in love once. It didn't work and I was a complete mess over it for a long time afterwards. Still hurts a little every now and then but mostly I'm moving on.
21Yes.
22With the man I am with now.
I haven't felt this way about any guy before. Even sitting here, thinking about him, I think to myself how much I want him right now with me and how much I love him.
I'm in love with love.
23I have been in love twice and it hasn't turned out the way I wanted it to be. Oh well...my new love is school.
24I am head over heels in love with my boyfriend. I thought I was in love with the first boyfriend I had but I think I just got wrapped up in puppy love then. Now we have a solid, practical, and yet amazingly romantic and sweet relationship. I really couldn't ask for more. :)*happy sigh*
25Yes, I have. Once, and I still have that love... I feel so lucky to have it every day. I think one of the most special things about it was how it came about. Re-connected with a friend from earlier in my life, chatted a bunch before actually meeting up again, hung out a number of times, and spent far too many hours to count emailing back and forth. I finally realized just what was happening, why this was all so special and important to me. I was swept away by her personality before I even saw her again. To top it off, perhaps it is because of my love for her, but I think she is the most beautiful woman on earth (no offense intended to anyone here). I think one of the biggest reliefs when I was sorting out my feelings of attraction for her was when I realized that this was definitely not a thing of lust... it was a thing of love.
26Ive been in love twice. The first time was with my first love who I was with from 15 till I was 21. I guess that was more of a puppy love because I was so young, but god did I love him. Im head over heels in love with my boyfriend now. I knew I loved him, but it just hit me one day how completely in love with him I am. When youre in love with someone, there's a definite, almost indescribable difference. You just know.
27Absolutely - twice! There were a few where I thought I was in love at the time, but in retrospect it wasn't quite the case.
28Nothing will ever replace a first love - as many people have said, it's so youthful, pure and innocent. Now I'm with the love of my life and there aren't quite words to sufficiently express it. I love the song lyrics "I need you - like the Father and the Son need the Holy Ghost"
nope, never been in love before...never.
29i dont know what i had for this one guy who wasnt a bf of mine though. we didnt meet up or anything. we talked on the phone and chatted all the time. we were so close, but then, i dont know what happened. someone said something about me to him i guess. a lie, obviously. but i think i am falling in love, with my current bf. hasnt happened yet, but it might happen in the near future.
i agree miss jaxx.
and to the girl here who has fallen in love a lot, i believe that someone can fall IN love just once.
