Nope, your browser hasn't crashed back to 1996 — the Boulder, CO, district attorney has just announced that new DNA tests have cleared JonBenet Ramsey's entire family in the killing of the 6-year-old beauty queen, 12 years ago.

The tests point to an "unexplained third party" as the culprit in the crime from DNA left behind in skin cells, one who is presumably still at large.
It's been confirmed that prosecutors no longer consider any member of the Ramsey family to be a suspect, though for years her parents, John and Patsy Ramsey, were thought to be under an "umbrella of suspicion" in the girl's slaying.

For this the DA apologized, saying, "To the extent that this office has added to the distress suffered by the Ramsey family at any time or to any degree, I offer my deepest apology."
Throughout the unsolved murder saga, with suspicion cast on the family, and John Mark Karr inexplicably and falsely confessing to the crime, father John Ramsey has maintained all along that he believes the case will be solved. JonBenet's mother Patsy Ramsey died in 2006 of ovarian cancer at the age of 49.
Considering this new information and the botched initial investigation, will we ever know who killed JonBenet?

This makes me feel terrible. I was pretty young when it happened, but I was one of the people that thought something fishy was going on with the family. I feel terrible for them.
I hope that the DNA eventually finds a match.
1I thought the family was involved as well Jill, and I especially feel bad that it's taken so dang long to get an answer - not a final answer yet but at least something like this. It just shouldn't take this long.
2This is why tabloid journalism should stay out of police investigations and court rooms.
3I feel so sorry for that family, especially with that cloud hanging over them all this time. The poor mother died before this came out. I must agree with you on this, Hypno - even though I am as guilty as the next person with devouring the tabloid trash sometimes!
4Well I'll be damned.
All that drama.
5Hypno you look so devious in the picture
tee hee
6Seems to me a number of heads should roll even now, if this case was so seriously botched... in addition to compounding the family's tragedy, the cops let a very sick killer stay free.
7Um... I don't feel sorry for them. They're creepy stage parents who didn't have their daughter's best interests in mind.
8Although it does make me happy they didn't kill her... the thought was very sad and disturbing.
Those poor people, everybody in the whole country thought they did it.
9I am glad that they've been acquitted, since they obviousily aren't guilty, but I think that the way they paraded their child was dispicable.
10I thought they had already been cleared a long time ago.
11Also, I doubt we will ever know exactely who did this. It is such a shame.
12Whoever committed this crime probably left the country a long, long time ago while all the suspicion was on the family. The idea that he could be out there in the world hurting another child, makes me sick.
I do agree with what others said about the Ramsey's being gross stage parents who paraded their daughter around in an inappropriate way. They didn't deserve to have their daughter murdered because of it but who knows if all the beauty queen exposure is how her killer found her? No matter what, I think raising a child like that is unhealthy.
At the very least, her family can now walk around with out the cloud of suspicion hanging over them.
13That is just horrible.
14Why did it take them this long to identify that such DNA does not belong to any of the Ramsey's? Can you just imagine the torment the family has suffered? And it's just sad that Patsy Ramsey has already passed away before their name was cleared. But really, they should find the real offender soon, I think that's what the family really wants and needs.
How unfortunate for the family. No parent should have to experience the death of his or her child. I remember hearing about this story in Japan at the time it occurred. I kind of find little girl beauty pageants disgusting especially when girls are taught at a extremely young age their worth is based on their exterior and a stage personality.
15Just because they didn't physically didn't kill her, it doesn't mean that they did not play a part in her murder!
16Too bad they didn't have Gil Grissom and his team on the case---it would have been solved in about a hour. This family should not have to gone through all this torment for all these years. Thumbs down to the investigators on this one !!!!!!!!!
17I agree with Berlin, they could have hired someone to kill her... why though?
18I feel bad, i always thought they were guilty!
19This probably won't be a popular opinion, but I'm not going to put 100% of my faith into this new DNA evidence as being correct. I still have a feeling the parents were involved somehow. My friend worked on a documentary about wrongful convictions and it's quite easy to make a mistake with DNA testing, so I'm still skeptical, sorry.
20Something about the parents made me feel creeped out- so I am with gigill. I still think they were somehow involved. This "new evidence" is a bit too late for me to trust.
21I agree with Berlin, thier behavior as "parents" led directly to her murder.
22The parents are still the guilty party. Actually, it was known at the time of the initial investigation the DNA was not the Ramseys'. I don't know why this is news. It was speculated early on that John Ramsey collected DNA from somewhere in the area (a rest area on the highway?) which was an idea from a book he was reading.
23the poor family - all this time the finger has been pointed at them. even i was thinking they might have done it and tried to cover it up. i wish the mom was still alive so she could hear that her name is cleared. what a horrible thing that happened to this family. i hope they find the person who did it.
24i know who killed her.
just cuz there was no DNA of the parents doesn't mean they didn't have help.
25its a little weird how the family figured out Patsy had cancer the day after she died.
And i know who killed her i just will not say cuz i promised.
u don't have 2 believe it but i am jonbenet cousin i new her.
sorry i cant say other wise i would help!!!!!!!
