This certainly seems like a good idea to me. Not that I'm an apologist for people doing the wrong thing for the wrong reasons, but there's more to prostitution than just the prostitute herself (or himself, too). It does seem like there should be an equal amount of attention paid to the person soliciting.

Men are tards dude. Anyone who pays for sex needs to have their car towed. I don't think it will have a long term effect though. They'll find other means of making the connection.

I remember when I was 22 and I locked me keys in my car. I waited for an hour for the road assistance truck to come by and jimmy my lock open. While I sat on the step of this building facing the corner I swear I had at least two dozen men drive up and ask me if I'm working. It took me about a dozen and a half before I realized what the hell they were talking about. Yes I was actually clueless at one time.

I hope that's not the same car Mom uses to drive the kids to school! Daddy is in big trouble.

It's a good idea but i don't know if it will work. Men are always gonna be men even if their car is impounded and their wife left them.

I think most men who solicit prostitutes are doing it for the thrill of danger and excitement...among other things. Getting their car impounded will only up that ante. Just like gambling and drugs it has been proven that addiction and drive for this sort of thing is also timeless regardless of the even greater loss of family and job. Who knows, maybe it will create more crime when those men who need their fix try and retain their precious cars.

Bella, I like that idea. I think public embarrassment is the way to go. It kind of reminds me of "party plates" in Ohio.

This is ridiculous. It's bad enough we punish consenting adults for having sex, but now we're selling their cars? We need to get the government out of our private lives. I'm not sure why anybody thinks prostitution should be a criminal offense. Who is the victim?

Furthermore, different 'Johns' will have various vehicles with different values. This is punishing the same crime disproportionately.

Although I agree with your argument michelin, I do think that some would qualify sex workers, at least certain workers, as victims of an exploitative, abusive and horrific industry.

That is not to say it should not be legalized, only that with the frequency of rape, battery, illness and substance abuse within prostitution many of the women could *easily* be considered victims.

Eilonwy, I see what you're saying and somewhat agree. If prostitution were legalized, laws could regulate the industry and significantly decrease the violence and disease usually associated with the trade. Furthermore, it would allow prostitutes who DO experience abuse to report it. The fact that prostitution is illegal only makes it less safe for everybody involved.

I am very much against legalizing prostitution. I know women say they enjoy it and that it's a choice, but as a woman, I just think making a woman's body a commodity is, by definition, degrading. There is simply no place for it in a civilized society.

I agree entirely stiletta. The reality, however, is that this profession will remain entrenched within our society. Whether it is subject to greater regulation and protection through legalization or continues with its surfeit of attacks, rape, deaths and battery in the shadows of illegality is an entirely different matter.

That's your opinion, stiletta. And while I could never do it myself, I would never tell someone that doing something they enjoy is "degrading" and "uncivilized." That seems kind of closed-minded.

I agree with Michelin 100% as well. I'm all for legalizing prostitution if it's strictly regulated. There would definitely be less corruption involved if it was legalized and heavily regulate. Think Netherlands.

Oh, as for the punishment, it will not stop prostitution. Prostitution is an ancient profession and will always thrive whatever the circumstances are.

I also agree with Michelin. I think legalizing prostitution is a much better option; otherwise, rape and murder cases will likely increase. Then there is always "Hey Mom can I borrow the car?" or perhaps get a rental car for the night with insurance....I wonder how that would work

The only thing I see this doing is making the Johns walk to the area where the prostitutes are. I guees that's a good thing, it gives the Johns a little exercise.

Correct me if I am wrong but isn't there a country (probably one of the Scandinavian ones...) that makes it legal to sell sex but illegal to buy it? Basically a woman can be a prostitute and solicit but any man that actually pays for it will get arrested. I find that such a great law personally- it gets to the heart of the matter. The buyers are what run the industry so I think focusing on them makes a lot of sense to me. But impounding their cars does not seem like a smart move... how is that even going to work? I say that prostitution should be legalized. It is always going to exist and women need to be protected from abuse and misuse if they are going to do it.
