I'm saying it right now: T. Boone Pickens for president. The former oil-man-billionaire-turned-wind-power revolutionary is suddenly everywhere and it's like a breath of fresh air. Pickens of his eponymous Pickens Plan is building the world's largest wind farm. His website, which launched today, is determined to shock the US into becoming the Saudi Arabia of wind.
The hemorrhaging of $700 billion dollars a year, an increase of about 50 percent more reliance on foreign imports since the 1970s, is ruining our country. Pickens says, "I've been an oil man my whole life, but this is one emergency we can't drill our way out of."
To see a consciousness-rocking explanation of the Pickens Plan by T. Boone himself (oh, and also changing my name to T. Boone) read more.
Though he's started running flashy ads to promote his plan, I'm sold on this straight-forward, Perot-style chart presentation. One watch and you'll wonder why T. Boone just tipped today. Starting with the optimistic, "we got more wind than anybody else does," his plan is explained in the most lucid way I've seen, showing how his one wind farm in Pampa, TX, can save the US $300 billion a year.
Is wind power the answer, or a lot of hot air? At least there hasn't been a massive "wind spill" today, unlike some nuclear sites. Is the Pickens Plan the salvation our economy needs?

1You Go T. Boone! I love you baby!
2You know he makes a lot of sense. And he's right it's all about leadership.
3i like how he calls nuclear "nuke."
4I dont think there is an alternative source out there that is less cost effective overall (all factors considered) then oil. Still Boone presents well.
5Nuke lol. Thats cute. I love listening to him!
6Is this love that I'm feeling?
7Wow, this guy is great! Nuke make me chuckle!
8tee hee - my hubby went to Nuke School after the Academy (his degree is in marine nuclear engineering)
9I hope someone makes him the Energy Secretary. Either way, we're going to have to get off oil and we can do it peacefully or the end of civilization way.
10So buy up any land you can in the U.S. Wind Corridor now. He pronounces nuke well, but he says we-end.
11Who ever knew this rocker chic could fall so hard for an old, Texas oilman? This idea makes so much freaking sense its almost unbelievable. Why is this not being implemented???
12What a great name.
13Even the oil people have to admit it now. Everyone who owns an SUV should sell it ASAP because its going to depreciate like crazy!
14If he's going to save the ecconomy with hot air, isn't that going to hurt global warming?
15Major props to Pickens for showing so much leadership on this issue. However, I won't easily forget the millions he's donated to the Bush campaigns over the years and especially his funding of the Swift Boat campaign. Just sayin.'
16This is the last thing we need. Someone will figure out a way to start charging us for the air we breath.
17He makes sense. I agree.. T. Boone for PRESIDENT
18Don't be fooled: Pickens' $2 billion dollar investment will return him some $4 billion in five years. That's the only reason he's doing this. And all that money comes from your taxes. This is the real reason we have wind farms popping up all over the place. Wind companies get a 200% Accelerated Depreciation Rate over 5 years on their "investment"--40% of that the first year. They also get a generous 1.9 cents Production Tax Credit for every kilowatt produced. Wind is the least viable form of energy production we have (it's intermittent, unreliable, causes power dips, blackouts, does not save on oil or carbon pollution, etc.) yet we are giving billions of our tax money to large corporations just to put up the farms. Why? One word: Enron. Wind is Enron's legacy. At the time of it's demise, Enron was the largest owner of wind farms in the US, and Ken Lay and his crew are responsible for originating both the ridiculously generous tax credits and subsidies AND the powerful lobby to assure legislation to maintain them. Look it up--it's all over the internet. Don't forget: Pickens used to be reviled; why are we now praising him as a guru? He is NOT doing this us!
