Meet the Signers of the Declaration of Independence

The huge signature of John Hancock on the Declaration spawned a whole new slang, to put your "John Hancock" on the dotted line. The completely unfounded but nonetheless passed around story is that
while signing Hancock commented, "The British ministry can read that name without spectacles; let them double their reward." Or there's this explanation, "there, I guess King George will be able to read that!" Hancock was the first to sign and and he did it with flourish.
