In the grand tradition of the Starbucks vs. Walmart state (yep, I'm proclaiming "grand traditions" now — it's a blessing and a curse) GraphJam has this amusing-because-it's-trueish map of how Californians perceive the rest of the country.

Given the left-coast's Berkelian flair and South Park enabled reputation for being quite pleased with itself, the map is pretty amusing. I love that North of the state line is "Canada" and "coffee" (though not so much anymore, eh?)
We'll see who's laughing, Mr. 55-electoral-vote CA, when those "Religious Nutballs" are actually deciding the election...

kinda true. But I live in FL and we're not all old people!
1ok. Louisiana is not religious nutballs. Come on guys, we're different than the rest of the South...
2Trust me, Californian's know where Vegas is. With as many of them that come here on the weekends, and if you've ever driven on I15 on a weekend, you'd see that they definitely know where Vegas is lol
3LOL true syako and kimpossible!
4Well I can attest that when it comes to upstate NY, they are 100% on the money in thinking that its Canada! Everyone thinks that!
5Speaking from Los Angeles, I think that's probably pretty accurate for most folks. Except that, given the current state of our public education, I'm reminded of a t-shirt my DD has seen, from that "states" series: "Canada: America's Hat".
6
7haha Sy! you're so funny!
Kris is gonna be pissed about the Fake Cowboy part!
8Syako, the Louisiana add is awesome. Nice work!
9yeah she will. I've seen a better map than this one that's an even grander tradition... lemme find it...
10This is how we all see the world!!
11That is SO FUNNY! SOoooo accurate!!
12my favorite is that canada is "uninhabited"
13Welllll technically.... 90% of Canada's population lives withing 50 miles of the USA border.... sooo its kinda right!
14i was pissed for about five minutes, but getting laid off trumps that. so f-it, who cares, right?
texas is one of those places that you don't know how awesome it is unless you've been there, so it's really not worth going into for close-minded individuals anyway.
btw, my job isn't quite over yet, but I'll be here today doing JACK CRAP on the computer. work? what? where? who's with me?
15kris I'm SO SORRY!!!
did you know it was coming? ugh... i'm sorry!
16sy i really wish i had your computer graphics skillz. i want to get one of those bowl thingys for each of our heads that is connected by wires, and we can turn it on and share our smarts.
17who's coming with me?
:fingescrossed: pick me! pick me!
I only have a HUGE project due at noon, and yet I've spent the first part of my day incessantly posting... pick me!
18
19
Syako!!! That map is hilarous and kinda TRUE to most americans!
20let's do it!
btw, my skills might blow out the wire because they're INCREDIBLE!!
21i just noticed, there's no africa on there!?!
22maybe Africa doesn't exist to Americans!
23I sort of knew it was coming...for someone else. was a little surprised, to say the least. I'll have to tell you about it in a PM!
24has it changed since yesterday Kris?
25burn it to the ground Office Space style!
26when we were kids, my friend and I used to play in our mom's classrooms with the big pull down maps. we played "queen of the continents" and we always fought over africa. so we totally knew it was there!
27not much change. we all just have a pretty lazy attitude.
i went out on a massive
shopping spree (makes a ton of sense, right?) and it seems like everyone has come in with new clothes this morning. we probably would have all called in sick if it wasn't for the obvious, and
the holiday tomorrow.
28the one thing that has changed since the day before yesterday is that the F-bomb drops freely, and no one bothers to whisper it anymore.
29god ya'll, where did the party go? did i kill it?
30
31sorry I was catching up on other comments! i was cheating on citizen with yum!
32Did you bring back some cupcakes?
That's the breakfast of champions...
33sadly I'm from the east coast and I tend to agree with this map. LOL
34I've had that breakfast many times! Though my fav. breakfast is day after Thanksgiving pumpkin pie! Thats been a tradition of mine for many many years!
35Kris so sorry about your job.
36oh, i want some cupcakes. I did pretty good yesterday. I managed to focus all of my self-destructive energy at spending money instead of eating.
37it's okay! more time for Sugar!
38damn, syako... you beat me to it. but here's my take on the american perspective:
39Nice! Oh, man that's great. But is it wrong that I love Cracker Barrel? Please tell me it's not...
40i loving cracker barrel is wrong, i don't want to be right
41Sy, you KILLED me with that map.
Kris--good luck with everything, I'm sending you and the "fake cowboys and pickup trucks" in Texas some good vibes from the "religious nutjob" Midwest.
I like your map too, yy...although there needs to be a Target icon by the Chicago-ish part on the map. I swear every time I turn around there's a new Target somewhere in my city...
42IF you want to be accurate, the WI, MN, ND/SD areas should be Gander Mountain Country.
43Cracker Barrel is so good! Their chicken noodle soup is sooo good... PigglyWiggly makes me laugh. Though I have to say down here, almost all of them are closed because of big bad Wal Mart!
44How is Cracker Barrel, btw? The bf and I were going to stop and eat at one in Indiana last summer but went for a Bob Evans' restaurant instead...
45Bob Evan's breakfast is AMAZING. I miss having a good place that has breakfast all the time...
46If you are old, or into southern style cooking, Cracker Barrell is for you. If you prefer a more northerner style of cooking, then CB is only going to be OK. The biscuits and gravy is incredible.
47their pancakes are so good... when i lived in VA a bunch of us would go to the gym every morning at 8am and we had to drive by the bob evans.. i cannot tell you how many times we were like "eh, lets get breakfast instead!"
48Ok have to get the day started... need to get ready to take children to school. I'm fighting this Godawful head cold and I just want to lay in bed all day... it sucks when Mom gets sick she can't take the day off lol...
Have a good day everyone!
49That Bob Evans breakfast was ridiculously good. The bf had a bit too much biscuits and gravy, which is not good if you have to drive alllll the way back to Chicago on such a full stomach, but it was awesome food!
