We work on ourselves in order to help others, but also we help others in order to work on ourselves. ~ Pema Chodron

Can you think of a way you've helped someone that also helped you understand or get past your own personal issue?

when helping someone is a big thing to them and a little thing to me i like to do it. there was one of those today where a woman backed out of her volunteer job at my girls school at the last minute and they HAD to have another parent there. so i went to school an hour early with my other daughter and helped out. if i can solve someones problem so to speak so eaisly it seems wrong not to and feels like i'm at least fixing something somewhere. i've done that with money before, give someone what they needed in a cash flow problem (real priblem not they want a pair of jeans they saw and have to HAVE them). when it costs me nothing (so to speak) why not? sp many things can never be "fixed" and i guess i like to feel useful.
1I think we can't always see our own lives with good perspective. So every time I give advice to someone else I feel as though I benefit. My friends will often say back to me: "Well when I was in the same situation, you told me to do this." So I think it ultimately helps me make better decisions in my own life.
2I think when I help someone work on their pain, I feel I' m also working on my own pain! It's a lovely feeling. It's difficult for all of us to move on from the past.
