Though will.i.am's video just picked up an Emmy, I venture there's something to be said for a little folk-music (and whistling!) in your political parody.
Mary Katharine Ham, recently of Townhall, made this deftly edited, quirkily catchy video about the choices you might make if you had your own, private Obama on your shoulder, devil/angel style.
With the little tiny voice saying "Obama!" and the fact that too many good songs can't fit in the word xenophobe, I can't decide if the concept of Obama following your every move is hilarious, creepy, or hilariously creepy. And the altar to Obama — too much needling, or just right?
My favorite joke is in the credits. . . see if you can spot it.

Citizen: That's great! Thanks for posting it!
Also, thanks for referencing Townhall!
1Love it. Thanks for making me giggle this morning.
And that song will be in my head ALL day!
2this is very cute and funny... but the message is pretty stupid:
"eat bad food, smoke cigarettes, waste gas, (don't brush your teeth??)"
is this all the conservatives have against obama? that to them he represents someone reminding them to curb their habits and be a part of a global economy that's running low on food and energy? this is super offensive. if people are this angry and resistant toward the reality that we've got to be better global citizens then we truly are f*cked. i hope no one in a country where they have energy black outs, are starving, and have had to wait in line overnight to get a tank of gas (iraq, home of terrorists, anyone?) sees this.
i'm embarrassed...
3i love how he comes and knocks the cigarette out of her mouth! ha!
4yeah she looks pissed when he does that too!
5yy give me a frickin break. it's a stupid parody, have you no sense of humor?
6which I know you do have a sense of humor since you feel the need to sarcastically condescend all things conservative...
7wait... isn't the message the opposite of what yesteryear said?
8A-ha! Saritabonita
I kind of like that best about the vid--it's widely open to
interpretation. I've heard rumors that both sides of the divide dig it...
9And I'm sorry, Obama or no--the "bad" breakfast scene? Um, yum.
10well, I was about to go to the kitchen to get another graham cracker, but after watching this video I am suddenly aware that that would be wasteful & gluttonous. I wish I had an Obama on my shoulder to tell me not to do things.
11I LOVE this!
That song is gonna be in my head the rest of the day!
The smoking part I didnt get since doesn't Obama smoke?
12well real obama does, but not tiny obama
13no, syako, i do not have a sense of humor. thank you for reminding me of this fact.
the message is clearly that people can't think for themselves and that without obama they wouldn't know what to do... and that obama supporters want someone to tell them how to live their lives. townhall.com is not a liberal website. it's a conservative christian site that is owned by a media company that also owns a bunch of christian talk radio stations.
14Maybe it's just me but, I was offended by the "just listen to your savior" line. I'm an Obama supporter but I don't confuse him with Christ and neither does anyone else I know.
15Seriously, yy, lighten up! This is a joke!
16And lili, "savior" does not necessarily imply a Christ-like or religious figure. Many people believe Obama will "save" the economy or "save" the country's image. So, for these people, Obama is not Christ-like, but is a savior.
17some of his supporters, do feel that way.
I said you had one in the next comment.
Anyway, it's a nice change from all the huff poo.
18jajajajaj.. yeah... i wanna go to cracker barrel and get me the breakfast with everything on it. and after that i´m driving to IHOP for GREEN EGGS AND HAM
OMG. gimme a break!
look. I don´t know who I'm voting for yet... and what you just said "that obama supporters want someone to tell them how to live their lives" could be said about either of the political candidates.
with THAT being said, I don't think that this is the case... no one wants to be TOLD how to live their life-
and if this were true, then i dont think that it applies to EVERY supporter
19I say let them smoke, shoot and eat all the fat they want.
20CS, my thoughts exactly on the breakfast food. Pancakes!
21i don't appreciate the typical suggestion that I not take long, hot showers. I am surprised it isn't in this video.
22There was something on the news this morning about Obama's smoking might actually help him get votes... but I only heard the tease and not the segment.
23lilkimbo in the video she has lighted candles and is kneeling in prayer. Then they little Obama angel appears. Yuck. I know it's meant to be funny, I just find it insulting. But that's just my opinion.
24*OFF TOPIC ALERT*
This is completely off topic, but I thought it would be an interesting question to pose.
What do you guys think would be good campaign songs for each of the candidates? I was thinking "We Shall be Free" by Garth Brooks for Obama. Not only are the lyrics good for him, I think it would help him draw in an interesting demographic. Nothing has struck me for McCain yet.
25I wish Obama stopped me from spending too much at the MAC online sale yesterday.
26Lili, I can't watch the video because my media player isn't working. I went off your statement that you were offended by the line, not by any imagery in the video.
27I agree pancakes are delicious, especially with bacon. Crispy bacon that snaps not bends.
28Next time you should clarify what exactly you are offended by. Is it the imagery? The line? Or both?
29lilkimbo I was offended by both.
30yeah, i wish Obama had stopped me from buying two expensive handbags at the duty free shop yesterday. not only were they extravagant, I didn't even pay tax on them. no one will benefit from my pretentious, discounted, tax-free purchases.
31Well, I don't find either offensive because it is obviously a joke (I just watched the video on someone else's computer). However, like I explained, every time someone references Obama as a savior it does not necessarily have religious undertones.
32And just for the record, I laugh at the Colbert Report all of the time, even though it is obviously making fun of conservatives. (The same goes for the Daily Show.)
33Kris - How was your trip?? We missed you!
34kris - I love that your back!
35liliblu, don't even start me on the bacon talk.
Kris, *you* will benefit from those bags. Sometimes you gotta treat yourself. I, on the other hand, do not need any more makeup. Trust me.
lilkimbo, I don't know that Garth Brooks song (or, um, any Garth Brooks song other than that "Friends in Low Places" one...is that even what it's called?) but I googled the lyrics and it's pretty fitting. I'm bad with thinking of inspirational songs...and the only one that's coming to mind is Journey's "Don't Stop Believing". Yeah, I'm a White Sox fan, what can I say
36Did anyone read the study about Conservatives having a better sense of humor than Liberals?
37I don't mind that she's making fun of liberals. My issue was the use of savior and the images that were shown with it. But as I said before that is my opinion. If you found it funny, fine. But as a person of faith I don't like to have my faith in the Lord compared to my support of any candidate.
38Forgot to add that I was just kidding about that...but I do think this was really funny!
39I hate campaign songs. I used to love the U2 song Beautiful Day but then like everyone and his brother used it as a campaign song and now I want to throw up when I hear it!..
40Right, and it is my opinion that it is funny. I'm allowed to have an opinion as well. And I'm also a person of faith. Some people do treat Obama as a Christ-like figure. In my eyes, this is making fun of those people, not of Christ or religion.
41em I love bacon but I don't eat it that often anymore. But when I do I want sliced thin and crisp. I have never liked thick or limp bacon. I was such a picky eater growing up that my parents loved that I would eat almost any "breakfast" food.
42Yeah, everyone loves that song!
The same goes with Don't Stop Believin' for sports teams! I love that song, but I feel like every team uses it!
43lilkimbo I was not suggesting that you shouldn't have or share your opinion. I was just sharing mine.
44i am really benefitting from my new bags! good point there em.
I missed ya'll so much! i am so happy to be back. i pretty much wanted to cry every day by the last week of the trip, and I saw all those Longchamp bags in the pretty colors, and went a little nuts. it was a bit of an emotional purchase.
45I recognize that. And I was sharing mine.
46I think someone should use Dire Straits "Walk of Life" for their campaign song. it would make me think about baseball, and sunshine.
47Kris, you have good taste so enjoy your purchases.
Welcome back!
48kris we're going to see Mark Knopfler in concert in Colorado in a week from today!
49i dont want to lighten up. besides, obama hasn't told me to do that yet - and without him, i cannot make decisions on my own.
