I couldn't be more sad to report that Tim Russert of NBC's Meet the Press has died of a heart attack. The New York Times reports they heard the news from Russert's family.
Upon announcing the news, Tom Brokaw said, “this news division will not be the same without his strong, clear voice.” Russert is survived by his wife Maureen Orth and their adult son, Luke. He was 58 years old.

I am totally and completely shocked and heartbroken.
I literally just shouted WHAT?! at my computer screen.
I think its safe to say that all of our thoughts and prayers are with his family.
Saem here... I am feeling stunned by this news.
my prayers for his family.
I'm so heart broken. That's one of my fave news programs.

My same thoughts. I couldn't believe it when I read it.
I did the same thing "what?" at my computer. so sad, SO YOUNG!
I cannot believe it either. His absence will truly be felt during the upcoming campaign, and beyond . . .
I think everyone is shocked at Tim Russert's death. Totally unexpected. A terrific newsman and he will be missed. First David Bloom, then the horrific ordeal Bob Woodruff went through and now Tim Russert. All way too young.
I'm so sad about this. I watch him tv so much I guess I feel like I know him. On MSNBC they said his wife and son are still in Italy. Russert had just returned. Brokaw and Brian Williams started to cry on air.
stunned.
Oh my God.
This is so sad.
My thoughts and prayers are with his family.
Totally shocked. He'll be missed.
Brokaw said that he and Mike Barnacle went to the hospital with him.
Someone at my work e-mailed us all about this about 20 minutes ago. It's so sad! I definitely recommend both of his books; they would make great last-minute Father's Day gifts.
Rest in Peace, Tim. You will be greatly missed.
Sorry, I meant to say Andrea Mitchell.
Prayers for the family and friends.
Yes, he will be missed. He was one of the best in his field, and a great man I am sure. So sad.
So shocking. My prayers definately go out to his family and friends.
Totally shocked by this.
My thoughts and prayers are with his family.
Wow, shocking and very sad.
I as well was completely shocked when I heard this news. I make my career as jpournalist and he is (was
) withhout a doubt a man of integrity...
This really saddens me....Why do all the "good ones" go early he was a real news man and truly "fair and balanced".
That's so awful and surprising.
this is so sad...he had such a bubbly disposition
Rest in Peace Tim.
how sad!
I am so saddened and shocked. As a hopeless political junkie, I have religiously watched Meet the Press. He was the same age as my Dad, I feel so bad for his family and friends, this is a great loss for political journalism.
So shocking and heartbreaking for his family. Hug your loved ones cause none of us are promised a tommorow.
Shocked doesn't cover it. It went out like a wave of sadness throughout our office. He will be missed. God bless, God speed and be with his family!
i am shocked. he will be greatly missed. what a great loss. i grew up watching him on sunday mornings. this election will not be the same without him. how terrible for his father...the two were extremely close. not to mention it breaks my heart to watch his colleagues being the ones to break this terrible news.
rest in peace tim.
I'm so sad for his family. He was a great man and will be greatly missed.
That is pretty terrible. I heard the name but couldn't place his face.
My thoughts are with his family.
I am very shocked and saddened. Whenever I see him on tv, I get caught watching. I'll never look at a mini-dry-erase board the same. What a tragic day for a respected journalist and his family. My thoughts and prayers...
I am so shocked and heartbroken to hear this. I grew up watching Meet the Press. It's hard to believe he's no longer with us. My thoughts are with his family.
That's so sad, I watched him all the time. RIP Tim!
That's so sad, I watched him all the time. RIP Tim!
Wow. wow wow wow. Being in the same field, this guy is an icon. He was such a huge deal and such a successful, smart guy. What a sad, sad, shock.
wow- I heard this about 2 hours ago from a journalist actually. I am in complete shock- such a tragedy for his family -who are still in Italy apparently. He was such a very unique personality who was so good at his job. I think it will be hard to find someone half as good at interviewing people and getting truthful answers out of them. May he rest in peace, and I hope and pray his family can find the strength to get through this.
i did the same too cab, i just cant believe this
I am completely in shock. I love Meet the Press and Tim Russert was one of the best debate moderators. Always prepared and enthusiastic, and incredibly fair. I am a little heart-broken.
And Lynne, whenever I think of him, I picture the mini-white board where he just gave up, erased the whole thing and wrote "FLORIDA!" at the end of the night. He actually brought it with him when he spoke at my now-husband's college graduation a few months later and I was so excited to see it!
I am very saddened by this too. I love Tim Russert & MTP... my husband & I love staying in bed Sunday mornings & watching him.
Election night will never be the same without Tim and his chalk board.
I just can't believe this. I loved Tim and I always admired his unbiased reporting. My heart goes out to his family.
this is too sad.
My thoughts, prayers and condolences to the Russert family.
Oh my goodness!! I just shouted WHAT too =( I can't believe that. I just pray that his family keeps in high hopes and knows he was a good person. My heart & prayers are definitely with his family...God Bless you Tim.
