I think we all can agree that when you work or go to school full time during the week, the weekends become sacred. But even so, sometimes the dread of going back to work or exhaustion from the week makes it hard to take advantage of the weekends properly. I know I’ve been guilty of this once or twice before, so check out my advice for making the most out of your weekend, read more
- Don't dwell on Monday! Monday is going to rear its ugly head no matter what, so you might as well enjoy the time you have before it rolls around again, and deal with Monday when it comes.
- During the week, keep a running list of all the things that fly through your mind that you can’t get to because of work. It can be anything from errands to the title of a movie you’ve been wanting to see. First thing Saturday morning pull it out and start getting things done.
- Make plans for Friday night, no matter how tired you are. It doesn’t matter what you do, just do something to keep yourself from getting stuck in a weekend rut.
- Do one thing just for you. Go out and get your favorite espresso drink or settle into a great book for two undisturbed hours. Taking time out to rejuvenate yourself will prep you for a fun night, and help you bear the thought of a long work week ahead.
- Get outside even if it's only for a bit. Fresh air works wonders, especially if you're stuck in doors the rest of the week. Take some time to enjoy nature — walk to the little park down your street or go for a long hike with your BFF.
- Try beginning either Saturday or Sunday with a physical activity. If you like to work out, hit the gym in the morning. If that’s not your thing, just trying taking a walk or cleaning your room. Getting stuff done first thing helps pave the way for a productive day.
Most importantly, have fun — whatever your idea of fun may be!

Good tips. I also think it's a good idea to not sleep in too late on the weekend. I'm guilty of sleeping in until 1 or 2 and then I feel like I've slept the day away. I'm working on it...
1Saturday:
2take kitten to get fixed, lay in bed (it's raining out) and finish watching Sopranos, visit parents, cook AWESOME dinner, lay around
this weekend: going to the COTTAGE! perfect way to unwind...your hair can get as dirty as you want, and no one cares. i plan to be half-naked the entire time so i can get a SWEET TAN!
3I think all of you ladies have splendid plans. Great post by the way - sometimes we all need a reminder.
I started a class last Sat and I will there again this Sat its from 9-5 (only 6 weeks but still), my mom is then meeting me downtown for a little shopping and dinner, In the late evening I will be doing a movie night with friends at my place and then Sunday: I am getting my hair done and coming home to relax. The Sat class really throwed me last week.
4Like many others I'm guilty of the weekend slug-a-bug habit. These are all great tips to help beat it!
5I just recently started keeping track on a post-it all the things that I need to do outside of work and have found it so helpful! Great tips, Dear, thanks!
6This weekend:
- Go to my eye exam
7- Trip to the Home Depot
- Come home, unwind and fix a salad
- Finish reading the last few chapters of a book
- Just relax and listen to the radio
I like to relax at home on Friday nights with my husband...we usually make dinner or order some pizza and watch a movie. On Saturdays, I like to get all my errands and cleaning done early in the day, relax in the afternoon, and go out with my husband and friends in the evening. Our Sundays are for grocery-shopping and just hanging out around the house or with our families.
I love my weekends and agree that they go by wayyyy too quickly!
8Great tips! I have changed my routine to get up much earlier on Saturdays... it really makes a difference. I get up around 8-8:30 during the weekdays and on Sunday for church, so I find if I keep that consistent, I am much less tired on Saturday and don't feel like I'm wasting away the day. I also make a list of all the things I'd like to get done on the weekends. It's split up by errands, notes, to-do's and correspondence. That way it's not one giant overwhelming list... I can just do the top few of each section.
9I have had a pretty good weekend thus far, I went to lunch with one bff, went out for drinks with another bff, this morning I watched my Godson soccer game and this afternoon I am going to a fiesta!!
10i work on the weekends
11Unfortunately I'm stuck in a weekend rut right now, the transition between summer school, and the fact I get out of school before everyone else. It blows. No car, high gas prices, no summer job, and no books out there that have appealed to my summer reading list.
12Ideally I'd like to have one weekend day to get stuff done in the Am and the rest of the day and the other day to just be lazy and enjoy myself. Watching movies or TV and reading in a bubble bath are my favorites.
