- Hillary To Drop Out: Hillary Clinton will endorse Barack Obama on Saturday, ending her 17-month campaign for the White House, according to aides. Her decision was influenced by Democrats' urges to leave the race and allow the party to come together around Obama. She is going to express support for Obama and party unity at an event in Washington, June 7. One adviser hinted that Clinton would concede defeat, congratulate Obama, and proclaim him the party’s nominee— looking forward to do what was needed to assure his victory in November. Obama told reporters of his plans for Clinton, “we’re going to have a conversation in the coming weeks.”
- 9/11 Tribunal: Five top alleged al Qaeda prisoners, including September 11 mastermind suspect Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, began appearances before a military commission this morning after extended time in CIA prisons and battles over the court itself. All the defendants were just arraigned before a military court at Guantanamo — all five are accused roles in the 9/11 attacks, responsible for the death of nearly 3,000 people. They all face potential death sentences if convicted. Mohammed has been forthright with his involvement — in a written statement read at a March 2007 hearing, at which he was present, he said he was responsible for the attacks "from A to Z."
- Abbas to Meet With Hamas: Mahmoud Abbas, the Palestinian president called late yesterday for a resumption of dialogue with the Islamic militant group Hamas. In a short address, Abbas, expressed the plan as part of his desire to restore national unity. Hamas took control of Gaza in June 2007. The move could halt peace talks with Israel, who only met with Abbas after he broke away from Hamas. Israel has refused to have direct contact with the group, considering it a terrorist organization, and has threatened to cut off talks with Mr. Abbas if he rejoins forces with Hamas.

I am all for stoning Khalid Sheikh Mohammed. I want to throw the first rock.
The only problem is, then he becomes a martyr and that is exactly what he wants.
1So don't kill him. Lock him up in a deep dungeon, and let him rot. Better yet, let all his friends know where he is, so they can try to rescue him. That way, we can get those guys too.
2I really want to throw rocks at him though. Tough decision
3I heard on NPR last night that hillary was going to suspend her campaign and not completely drop out. The difference being that she would retain her delegates. Has anyone else heard this?
4juju, not sure why, but Mitt did the same thing on the Republican side.
5OK Cine, you can throw a few rocks at him. Just don't kill him.
6team red!
7I look at my avatar, and it looks like I'm saying these things to my daughter. "Now there R_____, don't throw the big stones at the evil man."
8I miss Mitt...
9If she just suspends, she can still accept donations and have fundraising events. It's the smart thing to do considering the debt.
10I just heard in the news that he has asked for the death penalty. I hope they give him life in prison just out of spite. Why should he be able to choose his punishment?
11I agree. Don't give the criminal what they want. They deserve punishment. It's not punishment if they want it.
12They should put him in a little windowless cell with a monitor that plays George Bush speeches at its highest volume 24/7. For the rest of his miserable life.
13Can there be a little whole piper for me to throw rocks through? If so I am all for it!
14:rotf: Cine.
15
sorry messed up. I want to go with you Cine!
16Oh my. That reminds me. When we went to Kiev, we toured these caves/monastery and some of the monks (way back in the day) asked their fellow monks to build them into a room in the cave, and all that was open was a little hole to drop food in. And they just stayed in these tiny rooms and prayed for the rest of their short lives. It was the creepiest thing I've ever been around...
17That is creepy sy. What was their reasoning for that?
18Extreme devotion...
And you're walking in this tiny cave with like 6 foot ceilings and their about 3 feet wide and you just think about the monks bodies in there??? It's weird. they say the bodies of the monks there don't decompose...
19The monitor should be 30 feet tall, so Bush looks bigger than life, and all the sound feed should be .4 seconds behind the picture, so he looks like those old Japanese godzilla movies that was poorly translated.
20Did you guys hear the story about the German who was taking care of the cemetary where Mozart was buried? One night, he heard Mozart's 9th symphony being played backwards. The next night, he heard the 8th backwards. The next day, he asked his supervisor to come and listen to this. The supervisor listened for a few minutes and then said: "What's the problem? Mozart is just decomposing."
21oh dave, you're such a comedian!
it may be time to quit your day job!
22You can have your hole, Cine. Pummel away! I'm really digging the big Bush idea too, UnDave. Your daughter is a cutie! Sorry to put that in the same post as the rock pummelling but she is!
23Maybe now we'll know what the heck Obama stands for.
24Clinton wouldn't endorse Obama...I can't see it happening, especially after the events from Tuesday.
25Sy, that happens to a lot of Saints bodies as well. They don't decompose. So strange.
26yeah they have them all lined up in these glass coffins... It was very eerie. But I love history and especially religious history so I ate it all up... not literally, metaphorically.
27Dear Harmony,
I wanted you to be one of the first to know: on Saturday, I will hold an event in Washington D.C. to thank everyone who has supported my campaign. Over the course of the last 16 months, I have been privileged and touched to witness the incredible dedication and sacrifice of so many people working for our campaign. Every minute you put into helping us win, every dollar you gave to keep up the fight meant more to me than I can ever possibly tell you.
On Saturday, I will extend my congratulations to Senator Obama and my support for his candidacy. This has been a long and hard-fought campaign, but as I have always said, my differences with Senator Obama are small compared to the differences we have with Senator McCain and the Republicans.
I have said throughout the campaign that I would strongly support Senator Obama if he were the Democratic Party's nominee, and I intend to deliver on that promise.
When I decided to run for president, I knew exactly why I was getting into this race: to work hard every day for the millions of Americans who need a voice in the White House.
I made you -- and everyone who supported me -- a promise: to stand up for our shared values and to never back down. I'm going to keep that promise today, tomorrow, and for the rest of my life.
I will be speaking on Saturday about how together we can rally the party behind Senator Obama. The stakes are too high and the task before us too important to do otherwise.
I know as I continue my lifelong work for a stronger America and a better world, I will turn to you for the support, the strength, and the commitment that you have shown me in the past 16 months. And I will always keep faith with the issues and causes that are important to you.
In the past few days, you have shown that support once again with hundreds of thousands of messages to the campaign, and again, I am touched by your thoughtfulness and kindness.
I can never possibly express my gratitude, so let me say simply, thank you.
Sincerely,
Hillary Rodham Clinton
28She IS going to support him.
29Cannibal.
30That sucks, Harmony. If you can't get on board the Obama train, and I can totally understand that, come on over. All are welcome.
31I'm still giving my money to her campaign. I don't care. She needs me ... I must go to her ...
I am firing my emoticon intern.
32There are so many Hillary supporters that won't support Obama unless she's on the ticket. I really think it's going to end up being inevitable unless she turns it down. He's really going to have to depend on her to get her base to support him. I can see a lot of the blue collars and older women defecting to McCain. I know that most Obama supporters don't want her on the ticket, but I don't think MOST of them would stop supporting him if she was.
33Thanks for the invite Piper.
My politics are to different...but here you go...
34* too different...obviously. I type too fast.
35I prefer the Crazy Train, conducted by Sir Ozzie Ozzborne.
36juju, I also heard that Clinton is suspending, not ending, her campaign.
37HF - I'm very fond of you and it hurts me to say this - but people like me put Obama between a rock and a hard place: I'd seriously consider not voting if she's on the ticket with him. As far as I'm concerned, picking Hillary undermines the whole 'change' claim - way too much hedging his bets. A major draw for Obama is his being against the war all along, to me, she compromises that and makes it very untrustworthy. And she'd be a heartbeat away from the Presidency.
38So which side does he please?
Well I guess it's going to come down to which choice he thinks is going to give him the most votes. He's going to lose votes either way, so he has to be a politician now and figure out what is best. I already said I don't particularly think that she should be VP. I think there are many good spots for her besides that one. BUT honestly if she wants the job she's going to get it. She has a lot of bargaining chips to deal with. I don't think she's going to want it so don't worry I THINK everyone is safe.
39AND I am very fond of you too Steph.
40Thank you for posting that letter, Harmony. Very interesting!
Do you think her supporters would vote for Obama if she wasn't VP, but another position where she could use her skills in a better way? I heard on CNN they are talking Secretary of State (rumor, of course).
41Well I can only speak for myself Jill. I can tell you what I think. I think that there are some that are ready to switch over now. I think there are some that are going to need a little more persuasion. For those who aren't as well-versed in the executive branch hierarchy there might be an opinion that anything but the VP spot would be an insult. That's why I think he should offer it to her and she should turn it down. If her supporters think it's on her terms that she takes another position then they will back it. I believe. This is pure speculation. I think she would be an amazing Secretary of State.
42I just read this from AP
"She is not seeking the vice presidency, and no one speaks for her but her," communications director Howard Wolfson said. "The choice here is Senator Obama's and his alone."
The plot thickens!
43That's what I thought Jill! This is a brilliant woman. She is trying to figure out what she wants to do and how she wants to use what she has to offer (delegates, supporters). I don't think she wants VP. If he offers it to her I think it will be a stunt (orchestrated by both of them) to appease some of the more stubborn Hillary supporters. I stand by what I said though. She is going to get whatever position she wants.
44I think she is a huge asset, and there is surely a perfect spot to put her greatest assets to use. I don't think that VP is that spot, but I do agree that if an "offer" is needed to make her supporters feel better, that is understandable. I think no matter what, if she makes it clear that she is happy with whatever she decides to do, that many of her supporters will be satisfied...at least I hope!
