Your Two Cents: Would a Four-Day Work Week Suit You?
While some employers have been proactive in coming up with ways to help their commuting employees with gross gas bills, several state and local governments are testing a new solution that doesn't involve assisting workers with getting to and from the office. In fact, it involves going to work one less day each week.
In Suffolk County on Long Island, Legislator Wayne Horsley has proposed a three month trial that would give employees the option of replacing five eight-hour shifts with four 10-hour shifts. He says the transition would save 461 barrels of oil in just 120 days.

I could definitely live with that and I would love the extra day off.
1I would LOVE that!
2Years ago when I worked, I did the 4 day work week and loved it. We rotated what day off you had to make it fair for everyone on the team.
3I would LOVE to only work 4 days a week!
4Yeah, 10 hour days aren't too overwhelming. Just get a good night's sleep, eat well, and exercise daily for good energy.
5I think it's a great idea.
6I could deal with a shorter work week. But then again, I only work 3 days now, so....
7The French do that now and look where it's got them? The highest standard of living. Beautiful skin. And when they make love every fiber of their being explodes with an ecstasy that can only be expressed through poetry written at sunset on dove's wings.
Yes, I believe I can work a four day week. I believe I can.

8Oh, a new emoticon to my comments. Hello hungry fellow. Would you like some mashed potatoes? Who's a hungry guy? Who? Who?
This is ridiculous. It is assuming that you just sit home on your day off? That would just be another day to run errands etc. The government is so unabashedly niave.
9I think this is a great idea. It's not like the government is forcing it on anyone. And, for a lot of people their errands are closer to them than their work is. Regardless of saving gas, I would like to work only four days just to have the extra day off!
10Racc you forgot to mention Frances unemployment problems, so probably not a great comparison when we speak about work situations.
11The city and county employees do this where I live. Guess what they do on their extra day off. They fish, golf, water-ski, etc... There isn't much gas being saved by having the extra day.
12I already have a 4 day work week, without the hassle of 10-hour days. Of course I am a social worker for a small faith-based outreach center so I'm not rolling in $. But I do enjoy having every Friday to do what I please.
13lilkimbo, there is no way you can know that. Also, how many will take little vacations and what not. Most people seem to not just sit in the house on their days off.
14GS, there is no way you can know that most people don't just sit in their houses on their days off.
15Quite frankly, I always take at least one weekend day to work on stuff around the house.
16My wife does too. It's really annoying to watch her work while I'm on here typing away....
17I already work a 4 day workweek. 10 hour days 1/2 hour lunch breaks. its awesome.
18And i do sit around the house on my day off...
19I would think the weekend trips would help stimulate the economy. So although it may not help with the gas situation, it would bring money in.
