When you imagine the perfect boyfriend, I'm sure many characteristics come to mind, but in all fairness, age is a pretty big one, too. I see couples that differ in age all the time, and though the jury is still out on whether or not it's a good idea, I guess it's inevitable. Of course everyone has their own preference and people mature at different paces, but when it comes to your relationships, do you prefer to date someone older than you, younger than you, or your exact same age?

Older. It happens to turn out that way. I don't deliberately seek older men.
1Younger...and not because I like to wear the pants. It just happens that whenever I meet a guy I like he turns out to be younger than me. It's only ever been by one year though so I don't know if that even really counts. Maybe I should have voted same age.
2Where's the option for "I'm all over the board"? My bf now is 6 years older, but the guy before was 5 years younger. It just depends on the situation. If I don't end up with the current bf, though, I will probably stick to older guys. Not a fan of babysitting.
3Older. Nothing too much, but about 3 to 5 years older. However, these past few months, I've started liking a lot older guys. It runs in the family.
4am looking into dating older men now!!!!!! am tired of these lil boys
5I dated only older guys until I met my husband who's about 6 mos younger.
6older def..little boys r so immature
7I love the older, laid back man!
8My husband is a year younger than me, but before him, I always ended up dating older guys (only by a few years though)...not on purpose, it just worked out that way.
9There is no option for what I want to pick! I've dated older (More mature), younger (fun guys) and ones that are the same age as me!
10Older for sure. And no, I don't have daddy issues. It just makes me feel more secure (emotionally, not financially, I'm not a golddigger
)
11I always get hit on by men that are a little bit younger than me. I like them because they have more stamina in the bedroom, and more energy in general.
12My boyfriend's 2 years younger than me. I used to get hit on by a lot of younger guys somehow.
13my boyfriend and are the exact same age.
and i mean exact.
well..
okay, is an hour apart close enough?
we have the exact same birth date , only he was born at 8pm, me at 9pm.
we just rented an apartment and the guy was like "uhm is this a coincidence or a mistake?"
14Older — I like men that are more experienced than me. Maturity goes a long way in my book
15I've only ever dated older guys, although one was a lot older (I was 21 at the time and he was 40) and that really didn't last long, it was just too weird. The youngest guy (relative to my own age) I've dated was when I was in high school, and even then, I was a sophomore and he was a senior. I'd be open to dating my own age or younger, it only just so happens that I haven't yet.
16Older; it's hard to relate to someone younger, especially men, because more often than not, they are significantly less mature than I am. I'm not saying I'm the most mature girl on the planet (definitely not at 23), but my experiences with younger men have always been unsatisfying. I date up. Now I'm marrying up, to someone three years older.
17i prefer same age or older. but it doesn't really matter much
18I tend to like guys my age or older but do have an odd fixation on the younger guys
19There should be an 'Other' option. I'm off the market now, but when I was single, I was a non-discriminating dater. I dated younger, older, same age. If I liked someone, I went out with them. Most of my solid relationships were with older guys, and my fiance is 8 years older than me, but I had a long relationship with someone 4 years younger, so you just never know.
20I have always dated guys around the same age as me, but I am starting to think I would like someone older. I am 22, so the maturity difference between me and guys my age can be frustrating.
21Older!
22Def older! I don't seek them out either, it just happens that way.
23Around the same age. My husband is a year and a half older than me and we've experienced everything together. We've been in college together and got our first place together. It makes it more special.
24older
25I married a man who is a few years younger. We've been together for 10 years.
But when i was dating the guys were usually my age or maybe a year or two older.I've only dated one other man besides my husband who was younger than me.
26I used to prefer older guys. When I turned 18, I started dating a guy that was 39-years-old. When I saw his daughter was 15 and looked older than me, I realized he was a bit creepy. Also...I hate to be shallow, but he had a turkey neck, wrinkly face, and gray hair...What turn-offs!
After that, I dated a guy 7 months younger than me, but we were both college first years (We're still together). I've also dated guys in their early/mid-30s, but blargh, they go to bed early and wake up early. We could hold good conversations, though, because I tend to have a similar maturity/perspective.
My current boyfriend may be younger, but he's soo much more mature than any man I've ever met. He's brilliant, but so caring and loving and sweet. He makes me seem like a bratty little kid because he's always the calm, rational, objective one.
I always attracted younger guys because I look like a middle school/high schooler, but I also attracted older guys...I mean, 3-20+ years older. Very weird range...
27I always thought I would have someone older and that was what I wanted but I met my man and he is 8 months younger - I absolutely love him, it has now been 5 years and I could no longer even imagines being with someone older now
28Not so old that he'd be like a creepy daddy-type treating me like a stupid little girl. Not so young that I have to babysit him.
That's the stuff that really matters, not the numbers.
29I don't think I answered quite truthfully. I usually date guys all over the map, but realized that I think I'm the most comfortable with guys around my age, like my current boyfriend. The older ones always wanted to move too fast and the younger ones didn't want to move at all.
30My boyfriend and I joke that he goes for older women because I am a whopping 2 days older than he is! I am definitely more comfortable with guys my own age.
31My boyfriend is considerably younger than I, though I was previously married to someone around my age, most of the guys I dated, when I look back on it, were younger.
I don't get into the idea that the older one has to be the "Boss", though I have seen and accept than in many ways I may be seen as a source of advice and information that perhaps I would not be, if I was his age....the simple truth is having dated men my age, and younger, it comes down to the person for me, and if the good qualities make the relationship worth it. My ex husband was "on paper" everything most women would want. But the reality was he was an angry, insecure alcoholic who needed everything to be about "him". No matter what age someone is, that was not gonna work!
In the case of my current bf, what may make him a bit more inexperienced and näive is offset by the fact that he is incredibly honest, kind, and we have similar natures and interests and tastes in things like music, and hobbies. If I were younger, I think perhaps I would not have appreciated him as much, because his qualities are sort of "quiet" ones. He can be a complete goof sometimes, but when things get wierd, or something happens, he ALWAYS listens, and quite often he shows wisdom far beyond his years. He loves strong women, and is also very patient and forgiving.
If there is a downside its that if I ask him to do anything, I have to be sure it is done right....pink loads of laundry (lol) and "where do these go"....
But the plus side is..he does it, and sometimes he offers to do it. Then we can chill out with some iced coffee, Nintendo Wii together, watch Ugly Betty or go walking while we discuss the latest doom metal record he found.
Younger guys ftw.
32Ahaha the current guy is 4 years younger. I am 23, so that puts him at 19. He's not even legal to drink yet! It still freaks me out because I used to have a complex about dating younger guys. But I am so glad I gave him a chance because he's one of the best guys I've ever been with. Age is just a number; it's really how mature you are at heart-- and he's a LOT more mature than I am lol.
33How about all of the above - but without the insipid commentary? "[M]ore experienced than me." Ugh. "Wear the pants"? Double UGH.
I've dated me 10+ years older than I am who have been total nincompoops and not nearly as prepared for adulthood as I was. I'm currently dating a man 8 years younger than I, and he's got a better head on his shoulders than the 40 year old (E is 26; I'm turning 34) I was dating *last* summer. It depends on the man. I've never dated this much younger - 8 years seemed like it was pushing it - but damn, he's handsome, talented, passionate, and good at what he does and I would hate to lose him.
34Same age/older
35older. but not too old. i'd give it a 3-6 years maximum and minimum. i find it weird and inappropriate that women go for younger boys. a friend of mine is almost 20 and shes dating a 15 year old kid. she has had sex 2 times and hes a virgin. i found this extremely weird, unfair and totally inappropriate. but hey, she is pretty immature. i mean her brain is of a 13 year old girl. but i find this very sick.
36I like older guys, but I'm currently crushing on a guy two years younger than me which makes me feel like a pedophile.
37I am dating a man who is exactly 16 years older than I am. (I'm 21 he's 37) (our birthdays are 8 days apart). At first it was reallllyy hard for both of us but now it's cool. We've been together 2 1/2 years. He has no kids which is a plus! I wasn't looking for older guys, as I typically date guys my own age, but it just happened. It is difficult at times thinking about having kids and stuff.. but we'll see. He's the best man in all aspects that I've ever known.
