Bob Dole. Those are fighting words!
1Dole was heavy on the personal insults, but didn't venture near correcting any inaccurate portrayals of the Bush White House.
2I don't think Bob Dole would be privy to the information needed to correct any inaccurate portrayals of the Bush White House.
3Nice to see the Cryptkeeper getting into politics.
4LOL that was funny. and all I keep thinking of is "Bob Dole is gorgeous!!" from The Bird Cage LOL
5Dole would have some information about whether the war was all a propaganda campaign. Mrs. Dole is a Senator from North Carolina and he's still very active in the party, so he'd be able to say something.
6Neither of them are part of the Bush administration, though.
7If, as McClellan claims, the war was all propaganda by the Bush administration and he didn't even know until much later, how would the Doles know?
8man... bob dole looks like morla the ancient one from the neverending story!! watch out if he sneezes!
9Dole and others are attacking McClellan personally but not the truth of what he says. I think that stands out more than "That's not the Scotty I knew" or the "miserable creature" quotes.
10A) If Dole doesn't know enough to factually defend Bush against McClellan's claims, then maybe he should back off - supposing he calls McClellan all these terrible names and then finds out McClellan is right?
11B) Dole should at least be able to say something positive: 'I know George Bush and to suggest that the President of the United States is a puppet of the Vice President is a ridiculous claim. He's an extremely knowledgable, leader with create integrity.' or let's try 'To suggest that the Republicans in Congress would go along with a propaganda campaign and put our military personnel in harms way is a hideous untruth that insults the integrity not only of the Bush Administration but every member of Congress.'
But he doesn't and neither is anyone else.
Bob Dole is not happy! Bob Dole enjoys the chance to speak as Bob Dole in the third person!
This Bob Dole agrees with Stephley. Bob Dole thinks it's better to debate facts and opinions without getting personal about it.
12I forgot about that third person thing - very funny Bella!
13Of course I am happy that Mclellan revealed all this about the Bushies.
14But am I the only one who thinks that Dole raised a good point about his waiting all this time to speak up?
He may have been able to get an investigation going. Lives may have been saved.
"because if all these awful things were happening, and perhaps some may have been"
15This line is from Dole's email - maybe this is why the Repubs aren't going after him on the facts. They don't dare.
Yes, steph. So what is the next step. Hasn't McC been called before some committee that wants to question him? This just might be something to get Rove with.
16sorry im not a bush fan and i think katrina was a mess and the war an even bigger mess but this whole thing reeks of george soros waving a dollar in the air and McC (thanks janneth) biting.
17Bob Dole hasn't had his name in the news for YEARS. Any chance to get in the news is a good thing for Bob Dole.
18I saw a conservative site that made the Soros/Public Affairs argument, but if Soros was waving money, McClellan was an idiot too take such a pitiful advance:
"But McClellan hardly took home Tenet's $4 million advance. Nor did he garner a $1.5 million advance, like Bush political adviser Karl Rove. Heck, doughy little McClellan couldn't even get "mid-to-high six figures" like Bush counterterrorism adviser Richard Clarke. It turns out the Bush mouthpiece took in less than $100,000 up-front on his book deal, according to Salon — about $75,000, said an AP source. It turns out his wonky publisher PublicAffairs didn't think he would deliver the goods."
He's gonna have to sell a lot of books to be considered well off in this economy.
19FYI: still can't find a factual rebuttal.
20I haven't seen the book yet Stephley, when I get it, I'll give you some factual rebuttals
21Can't wait, but remember, I want FACTUAL rebuttal points.
22"The White House reviewed the final manuscript for classification and privilege issues. After the review I met with some members of the White House counsel's office at their request to discuss the review. As I expected, there were no issues relating to classified information. They did bring up some issues relating to what they might consider executive privilege, including presidential conversations and conversations between senior advisers to the president." (MSNBC via Huff Post)
23Now I'm really curious why the White House wasn't ready with a fact-based shoot down.
Nothing to shoot down, steph.
24I think the key word is "classified." I don't see the White House giving out classified information just because McClellan wrote a book. Just because they aren't giving a factual rebuttal doesn't mean that one doesn't exist. the word classified also explains why people like UnDave may not be able to give a factual rebuttal. UnDave was not there to witness events that took place in the Bush White House. (That we know of.) McClellan didn't even witness some of the events he wrote about.
And the issue of the advance just shows why it would be more lucrative for McClellan to write a controversial book. Since he got a smaller advance, he probably gets a larger percentage of the sales. (I don't know the exact details of his deal, but I know that's how it usually works.)
