ABC is teaming up with the Department of Homeland Security to make some good old-fashioned reality television. The new show, Border Security USA, will focus on US border protection agencies including: Transportation Security Administration, US Coast Guard, United States Citizenship and Immigration Services, the Secret Service, Customs and Border Protection, and Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
The federal government's efforts to stop illegal immigration, smuggling, and terrorism will be documented reality-television style. The Hollywood Reporter says that in one episode, two Iranian men are denied entry because one has relatives with terrorist ties, and the other carries a fake ID.
Perhaps this show could teach Americans about how the Homeland Security bureaucracy operates. But, I'm still concerned that a sensationalized television interpretation of national security concerns may oversimplify the problem and lead to discrimination, intolerance, or a false understanding of complex issues like immigration and global politics.
Is gov reality the next big thing, or is this just run-of-the-mill propaganda? Are you going to Ti-Vo this one?

I am also looking forward to that series "Merchant Loan Approver" where they follow three banking loan officials through they day. Who will get the small business loans with the adjustable interest rate 5% below inflationary yield and who won't? You'll have to tune in to find out!
5This is bizarre, and the only reason the govt would do this is to present a biased view of non citizens.
6How about "So You Think You Can Fill Out a Tax Form". Viewers vote on who gets the biggest IRS check.

9hahahah raciccarone! how about something like "Quality Control Agent: The First 48 Hours" where we get to see the best and the brightest young scientific minds be forced to take the only job they could get out of college: making sure chocolate chip cookies are not laced with salmonella? i'm calling Bravo!
10Ugh, doesn't this just make things more difficult for those immigrants who come in on visa waivers with every intention of abiding by them? ABC better not be pulling any strings behind the camera and dramatizing events to draw an audience.
11Of course they're going to dramatize events - they can't let a dance contest go without tweaking it. They don't dare let the security people come off as bad guys or stupid and they have to be careful about portraying anyone stopped by security as a victim.

because they had a slow day at work and need to spice up the show some. That, I'm sure, will cause many unnecessary grievances among legit travelers.
13It is becoming more and more unfair everyday that I do not have a reality show! I am soooo much more entertaining than government officials!
14I have had several friends who worked in different aspects of reality tv...and the stories they tell would shock you. I don't want to get them in trouble, but I wish I could tell you!
