Pet names or nicknames reveal intimacy and familiarity; special people in our lives frequently find themselves with new and special names, names created and communicated usually and strictly between friends.
Around Valentine's Day, we asked you to share your pet names for your significant others; the answers ranged from the romantic to the purely silly, showing just how inspired, creative and unique this kind of naming can become.
But what about all those silly nicknames we have for our friends? I really can't remember the last time my best friend used my "real" name; unless we're in public, we mostly use any number of goofy little names we've assigned each other over the years.

I have so many nicknames its not even funny. My mom, sister and grandmother called me Lecky or Lexi. My boyfriend and his family all call me Lexi. He mostly calls me Lexipoo, lexicakes, lexilicious and a bunch of other names!
1The only time anyone calls me Alexis is if they don't know me very well or I'm in trouble LOL
We love weird nicknames in my family, and they change every couple of years. Right now my siblings refer to me as "P" (short for pig *sigh* go figure). It started off randomly, but my sister said my mom even refers to me as "P", so i guess it's official now.
2I have a lot, too. The one that has stuck with me the longest is Nutmeg, it was made up by some random cousins when I was, like,3. I was running around acting all nuts, I guess and my name is Megan, so they combined the two. Then, my brother likes to make up new ones just about everyday. When we were little and the Transformers cartoon was on, he called me Megatron and then when he got into cars, he started calling me M-Class.
3I call my best friend "Wolfmother". It's a really long story, but it happened when I said that the band's name sounded like the godfather, and my friend always seems to be the "leader" of this certain group, even when she doesn't want to be... anyway, that's how the nickname started. It was alot funnier at the time. We had alot of soda that night. And people call me her b*tch, so her nickname for me is "Wolfbetch".
4It would make alot more sense if you knew us.
We have alot of inside jokes that are only funny to us because we get really stupid together haha.
my bff growing up and i called each other "the groovy one" or "the groove". i just sent her a card the other day (she's getting married) and addressed it: Mary the groove Smith. haha, her intended will think we're both freaks! we had this whole other language that we used and a billion personal jokes that in retrospect probably drove everyone around us crazy. i remember once we were sitting in my car one night waiting for her boyfriend to get off work at denny's (i think) and we were joking about some police show and how lame it was. all of a sudden she jumps out of the car, grabs her blow dryer from the back seat (she'd spent the night at my house) and points it at a car a few spaces away yelling "get out of the car RIGHT NOW and put up you SO SERIOUS arms!" and tosses her hair like a playboy model. wtf? i was laughing so hard and then 2 guys actually got out of the car with their hands up! they were getting high in the car and here she is pointing a blow dryer at them! oh my god, if i just say "put up your so serious arms" we both fall into fits of laughter.
i need to call her.

6i forgot another stupid nickname that i absolutely hate is Lucky. Some guy heard my sister calling me Lecky one day (which sounds completely different from Lucky so where he got that from???.....) so anyway he started laughing and calling me Lucky and the name stuck. I HATE IT! but..what can i do about it.
My friends call me nutmeg too, or Meggles (i'm also a Megan). My sister though, I call her Doodle bug. Her name is Devan, and when we were kids she loved to pick up and play with doodle bugs, so it just kind of stuck.
My friends are also big fans of last names. it makes life easier especially when you ahve duplicate first names.

10The longest nickname I have is from my cousin, who is also my best friend, she had a hard time saying my name, Renee, so it became Rae, but she's the only one who can call me that. My friends thought it would be funny one day to figure out how to say our names in reverse, and mine stuck, and I've been Eener or Eens ever since.
11Most people just call me my real name, but one of my friends an I will always be Kare Bear and Moni Butt to each other.
12In highschool I was Gigi. I went to french camp and it stuck. Half my friends still call me Gigi.
I call my really good friends Pony - Something to do with wanting a pony friend and having my friends say oh I can be like a pony? Unique I'd say. I have more ponies in my life than I ever imagined...
Then I went to grad school and everything became about the meta. Instead of names we call each other "friend" or "thing" (my brother calls me sister and I call him brother) Might as well distill it to fundamentals hey?
My boyfriend calls me his wuzzah. Think it might be an australian thing.

My cousin tyler I call goobie. I cant help it! I even wrote it on his present at his wedding!
14oh and my mom calls me lucy. no its not my name and no one knows why. She hasnt called me my real name in maybe 15 years!
15My friends called me Tomato since they found out I'm easily blushing hard when I'm embarrassed. my bestfriends call me "Mom" because I always act like I'm the mother hen when we're together (that's what they said, not what I've said) or sometimes they call me Mrs. Austin just to tease me (my husband-to-be last name is Austin)
16My boyfriend calls me "hippie nerd" or "The Austin". he rarely call me by my real name and everytime he did that it must be when he's talking serious or said I love you
I called my guy friends Bo which comes from BrOther
mum calls me cinders after Cinderella cause she used to make me do all the cleaning when i was younger..amongst friends i dont really have a nick name, my name is too short to shorten :/
17my twin sister calls me melody, only because i love to sing. i call her harmony because of the same reason
18My friends call me Sha, but I have specific nicknames for my three best friends. The girliest I call Princess, the bubbly blonde I call Starburst, and the weirdest one I call Pickle.

20One of my uncles has always called me cindy since I was little. && my name doesn't even come close to cindy.
My boyfriend calls me angelica cheeks cause of the rugrats. Since angelica has big cheeks and so do I
21My best friend and I call each other piggy. it all started when babe the movie came out. He said "That'll do pig" and it stuck. every email that we send starts with Moo instead of hey or our real names. don't ask about that, I don't even know.
22well my friends call me shanester or shawneycakes lol, i call my bestfriend danny bestieboo cause ive called her that since we became friends and she just stuck w shawneycakes lol
