You know that big group dinners can be a pain, but it’s a good friend’s birthday so you decide to make the most of her party. You’re having an OK time, except you feel like the odd woman out when the other girl's start up a conversation with a group of guys one table over. Before you know it, you're practically the last one left at the table while the rest of them — with the guys — have wandered over to the bar. You'd love to just leave, but unfortunately you're stuck there for the moment. Would it be worse if . . .
This: The server is waiting for the bill to be paid, and staring at you mercilessly? You manage to get some money from the others, but the majority of it ends up on your credit card.
Or…
That: You’re stuck keeping the group of guys’ not-so-cool friend company? He’s a nice guy, but you’re completely miserable with him, not to mention that you can already tell he’s getting the wrong idea.

This — You’re stuck with the massive bill.
1I'm broke as a joke and have been this way for about the past 8 years so I'd rather be stuck with the loser.
I'm a pretty nice girl so I could at least be tactful and nice to him.
2This would be worse for me...I'd be pissed if I had to pay the entire bill (or most of it) myself.
3First off I would not pay the entire bill. I would walk over to the other women and be like "yeah I am not paying for all this". I would rather be stuck with the not so cool friend.
4I'll stick with the nerd as long as I don't have to foot the massive bill. As soon as someone comes back to the table, I'll leave my share and bolt out of there.
Either that, or ask the waiter if I can pay my portion of the bill separately.
5I'd MUCH rather be stuck with the nerd-- seems kinda superficial to snub him.
6Getting stuck with the bill is WAY worse. Although I'd never let that happen. Having to chat up a nice guy who happens to be a nerd isn't a big deal.
7I'd rather get stuck with the nerd.
8Yeaaaaah I'd never pay a bill for everyone else just because they were in the middle of flirting. NO. Get over yourselves, ladies (I know this is hypothetical but that made me mad as if real friends did this to me!)
Anyway talking to a nerdy guy is no big deal. I'd just chat with him for a little while, pay my part of the bill, and leave. I'm not one of those girls who feels obligated to give out my number just because someone asks--some of my friends do feel that way and are scared to blow them off, and I think they need to grow a pair. You have the right to say no.
9The bill would be worse. I could easily get the nerd to leave me alone. Trust me...
10I wouldn't let either happen! The nerd wouldn't necessarily be too bad, unless he were extremely awkward or rude. But if my "friends" wandered over to the bar, I would just tell the waiter to split up the bill, pay my part (+ decent tip) and leave. I can't imagine everyone else actually expecting one girl to foot the bill like that!
11Er, weren't you kind of left behind too? Isn't the hypothetical "you being a little judgey?
12"Judgey"? (I'll play along and pretend that is a word.) I'm just not being their tool or reinforcing the careless behavior. The hypothetical "nerd" isn't obliged to pay their part of the tab, either. They are. But so far I've managed to avoid friends who are this obnoxious.
13So I have to choose between sitting with a nice guy and a huge bill? Uh, I'd take the nice guy.
And btw, "the other girl's start up a conversation" should be "girls" which is just plural, not possessive.
14Huh, how come the votes seem to be split down the middle when most of the comments seem to think it's worse to be stuck with the bill? I only skimmed, but I don't think anyone actually said being stuck with the guy would be worse.
I guess it's that "what is worse" and "would you rather" confusion at work again.
15Yeah I always vote for the wrong thing on these b/c I don't read the question carefully enough. Anyways, I'd rather be stuck with the bill. I'm such a brat, I simply cannot even force myself to keep my attention span at an appropriate level when I'm stuck with someone dull, boring, and possibly obnoxious if he's getting the wrong idea.
16Yep, the question is confusing. It should always be "would you rather" to avoid this problem.
17I agree that these "this or that" questions are really confusing. I say getting stuck with the bill is worse, but I would just ask to pay for my portion separately and then leave.
18These This or That questions have been constantly complained about as confusing. Dear- can you not fix it so it makes more sense to everyone? Either do a "Would you Rather" OR What is Worse? and leave out the This or That part.
