- Myanmar Accepts All Aid: Myanmar's junta agreed this morning to admit cyclone aid workers "regardless of nationalities" said UN officials. UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon reached the agreement with junta supremo during mission to help 2.4 million left devastated by the storm three weeks ago. The move is positive, if not late. Disaster experts say that unless the doors to aid were opened, thousands more people would die of hunger and disease, adding to the nearly 134,000 reported killed or missing.

- McCain Rejects Hagee: US presidential candidate John McCain rejected the backing of Rev. John Hagee after an audio recording of the preacher saying that God sent Hitler to help Jews reach the promised land was published on the Huffington Post. Rev Hagee then withdrew the endorsement, saying he had been misrepresented and did not want to figure in the presidential campaign. McCain faced criticism for seeking the endorsement — he's now described Hagee's comments as "crazy and unacceptable."
- Italy Goes Nuclear: Italy announced yesterday its five-year plan includes resuming the building nuclear energy plants. A public referendum resoundingly banned nuclear power and deactivated all its reactors 20 years ago. Growing concern over energy contributed to the decision. The minister of economic development said, "by the end of this legislature we will put down the foundation stone for the construction in our country of a group of new-generation nuclear plants. An action plan to go back to nuclear power can not be delayed anymore. Only nuclear plants safely produce energy on a vast scale with competitive costs, respecting the environment.”

What wonderful stories for a Friday morning. Finally Myanmar is waking up, and finally both Hagee and Wright are NON-ISSUES!
1McCain did dredge up Wright when he making his denouncement. I thought that was a bit disappointing.
I was also really disappointed that Hagee's response was all about how he was misrepresented. He didn't apologize at all to the Jewish community from what I read.
2omg jill.
3Jill, I can't find where McCain dredged up Wright. Can you either pm me with the link or post it? Thanks!
4Oh, you mean when he said he doesn't believe that Obama shares Wright's views?
5Arg! I can't find the quote in the stories I am reading today, but it was in the ones I read yesterday afternoon and on Olbermann last night.
He said something like, "I don't think that Mr. Obama shares the views of Rev. Wright. However, my situation is different because he wasn't my spiritual advisor, and I did not go to his church for 20 years."
He is painting himself into a hole, because he called Parsley his spiritual guide at a rally in Cincinnati.
I am ready for the crazy Pastors to exit stage left! I just wish that McCain would keep some dignity while doing it.
6I wish the same for Obama. I can't find the quote from him a few weeks ago where he slammed McCain on Hagee and I wanted to find it before I said anything, but I am still working on it.
7And McCain called Parsley "a spiritual guide", which he is for many people, not , his spiritual guide.
8McCain could have been asked by the reporter, why his relationship with Hagee is different then Obama's with Wrights, which is why it was brought up.
9no, cine, he just doesn't have any dignity.
10Ah...Gotch ya!
11"Obviously, I find these remarks and others deeply offensive and indefensible, and I repudiate them. I did not know of them before Reverend Hagee's endorsement, and I feel I must reject his endorsement as well. I have said I do not believe Senator Obama shares Reverend Wright's extreme views. But let me also be clear, Reverend Hagee was not and is not my pastor or spiritual advisor, and I did not attend his church for twenty years. I have denounced statements he made immediately upon learning of them, as I do again today."

Jillness I agree with you.
12Really great news about Myanmar. It's about time! I cannot believe it took this long though.
13Sorry for not being clear- "ageist" in the sense that he keeps bringing up how Obama is too young to serve as President (I don't believe he's not experienced enough...just because he hasn't had a military background like McCain doesn't make him inexperienced....furthermore we've had many presidents without a military background).
So we have one old guy one young guy. No in between.
14No, Cine and Sykao, he wasn't asked.
15I have not had a lot of time to post lately, but I am tired of people trying to make Hagee and Parsley seem unimportant by bringing up Wright. Hagee may not have been McCain's pastor, but McCain actively sought his endorsement. He choose to court Hagee. McCain actively courted Ron Parsley to gain his endorsement. He needs to take responsibility for his choice to seek endorsements from these men.
16omg liliblu, what do you think he is doing now? He's DENOUNCING THEM AND REJECTING their endorsement.
I mean, really, do we not read the posts any more?
17It's taken him months to do it though - perhaps as opportunistic a move as many claimed Obama's rejection of Wright was?
18Parsley is 100% correct when it comes to Islam. It is a religion of war and it needs to be addressed already.
19lol you know sometimes there is just no pleasing some people.
20"Parsley is 100% correct when it comes to Islam. It is a religion of war and it needs to be addressed already."
I hope you can support this with actual facts and not bigoted rants. I doubt you can but if you're going to make such egregiously ignorant statements, you should be prepared to try.
