The New Kids on the Block were a hit boy band back in the late '80s and early '90s. Who would've thunk that they could reunite over a decade later and still have fans traveling far, lining up, and sleeping in tents on NYC street corners to see them perform live on the Today Show? If NKOTB's middle-aged female fans of today are anything like the teenage zombies who adored them back in the day, then I'm officially scared. The teenyboppers in the commercial below were out of control.

Ahh! My sister had the Joey doll, and still does somewhere... she also had a water bottle, sleeping bag, and we each had those HUGE buttons.
1hahaha when they came out I was like 4 or 5 so I didn't really care, but people still bought me there merchandise anyways thinking I liked them.
2Haha. I had the Joey doll, even though I was younger than their fans at the time. I spot someone from the Babysitter's Club show in that commercial.
3I was their number one fan!
. I had a doll (I think the tape came with the dolls), some HUGE slippers, a framed poster and I went
to one of their concerts...
4I had their posters on my wall, but I never had a doll, and I never went to any of their concerts. And looking back, I'm happy about that!
5I had posters of them in my room when I was in Jr. High.
6We must be around the same age glam!
7Would their fans be "middle-aged" now? I was about 9 or 10 when they were really popular but my neighbor who was younger (but lived in a more permissive house than mine) had all of their music. So I think their fans might be in their 30s. Is that middle-aged? I still plan to be young in my 30s (which, I'll admit is in a few years)!
8What would have made that commercial go from regular funny to all out hilarious is if the girls started fighting about who the biggest fan was. A little more SNL than saturday morning cartoon fare though.
I missed the NKOTB phenomenon by a year or so. When they hit it really big, I was a sophomore in high school and by then I'd discovered Depeche Mode and the Cure. But I knew a bunch of girls that were obsessive over them like the girls in this spot.
9lol! I remember wanting a doll so bad, but I never did get one. Remeber the New Kids on the Block cartoon?? Hilarious.
I'm in my 20's and I was a fan! I have to admit though that I'm not all that excited about their reunion tour though.
