Alec Baldwin is getting ready to retire from acting. The Democratic actor just sat down with 60 Minutes to discuss his future in . . . politics!
Now that he's turning 50, Alec says he's ripe for elected office. I say —now that he's 50, he also has more skeletons in his not-so-private closet.
But, Alec says he's ready for the public scrutiny, and will be more careful about his actions. He explained:
You can pretty much bet all you own that I would never leave another voicemail message for my daughter that wasn’t just like something out of a Rogers and Hammerstein score.
Want to hear more of this? The whole interview will air this Sunday.
Alec has had politics on the brain for a while. Back in 2004, Alec had strong words for fellow actor Arnold Schwarzenegger, saying "if the largest, most economically significant state in America could elect a man who is totally unqualified for the job, then they can elect anyone."
Going back even further, in 2000 Alec said he would move to Canada if George W. Bush was elected. Guess he couldn't find a flight!
Do you think Americans want to cast movie stars as their leaders? Would you vote for Alec?

He may be liberal but he's got a rotten temper, has shown bad judgment in the past and his eyes are getting all squishy.
1This is laughable.
2I'm trying to limit my emoticon usage. But it's really hard!
3I've been washing down chocolate pretzels with coke all day - I can't shut up!
4HAHA are we a little hyper Steph?
5Would John Stewart ever run?
6After Glengarry Glen Ross, he has my vote without question. I can think of worse things than having a great actor in office.
7Just a tad - I feel like YY's bunny.
8I think Stewart's too smart to run - I don't think all the compromising a politician has to do would sit well with him.
I want Don Rickles to run.
9haha rac. We've had one actor already, although I wouldn't exactly call him a "great actor."
10I don't know didly about Alec Baldwin except his baby blues in The Hunt For Red October drove me nuts before they got all squishy.
I live in California and I thought it was mistake to move for a recall because everyone was putting the blame in the wrong corner for our energy crisis. Only to find out after the fact that certain manipulative corporations were to blame.
Never the less our efforts yielded Arnold Schwarzenegger and his critics including my self thought he would make a lousy Gov. He's not the greatest but he certainly is not half as bad as his critics including my self made him out to be.
Luckily for us he turned out to be a some what pleasant surprise. He is also not as conservative as some would thing and very bipartisan in his approach to problems.
11I was in California visiting family for that election hypno. It was crazy! There were porn stars running and Gary Coleman. It was like a circus. hmmmm....kind of like the current election.
12He seems a lil off, maybe he may give a great tongue lashing.
13Ever since I heard that voice mail he left for his daughter I haven't cared much for him.
14Yeah tongue lashing like Don Rickles.
Hey harmonyfrance Raw Logic is still going at it girl. The woman is so full of hatred she can't see straight.
15OMG! I'm going to go check it out!
16I'd love to see him run. I bet that he gets eaten alive in the first debate. He isn't much of a speaker when there isn't a script.
17I don't know. Have you seen Team America: World Police? He's "the world's greatest actor".
18He thinks he is anyway
19wait... hypno. You are a genius! DON RICKLES?!?!?!? he is the funniest man alive. his campaign slogan can be "Hey Dummy - Vote for Me!" YESSS!
20I am so very glad that you guys aren't crazy about him. Phew!
Why no likey the emoticons Harmony?
21Yesteryear, I want to see the woman on your avatar run. She looks like she'd kick some butt!
22I really don't understand why actors think they can be politicians...
If only they could all be as great as Ronnie!
23HOw about....Jack Black!
24Anyone can be a politician cabaker as long as they can bank roll it.
25Yeah yesteryear either Don or Wanda Sykes. LMAO!
26I have no clue what-so-ever his poli views. He's just funny. I love him. NOt like I love Russle Crow
.
27I have a feeling he's a lib though (Black). *sigh*
Russel Crow is a fine actor but every time I look at him I think of the Gerber Baby.
I don't know why.
28I love Wanda! Her slogan would be: I just don't give a f*ck!
I'm trying to hold back on my emoticon use because it scares Rac. Don't ask.
29Uh, is that Wanda Sykes in her avatar??? Boy she sure has changed!
30Rac! Buck up!
*gasp* gerber baby!!!!
31LOL! Sorry hartsfull, maybe it's his chubby cheeks.
32LOL! No, It's ok. I'll forgive you this time.
33I wonder what he thinks qualifies him to be an elected official.
The squishy eye comments crack me up!
34Maybe it's his uncompromising self worth.
35I like in Wanda Sykes standup how she says that single mother should run the budget cuz then we'd be savin' sooo much money!
36Cab, every time I see your avatar I have an urge to put my hand on my heart.
37haha! I've decided to make my cupcakes go with the season, so this one will be up for the summer!
38I've always liked Alec Baldwin. He's always been politically active. I've enjoyed his write ups on the Huffington Post. I'd like to see how he handles running for public office.
39Oh ack.
40
41America is now officially a joke.
42GS I can't believe you are silver already! Good job!
43hey you guys. i'm running for office. i'm ready for the public scrutiny. bring it on.
44Thanks CaBaker! I think I might just make myself at home here. I am convalescing after sugery so I have the time!
45Oh dear.
46Well Great Sommelier. It looks like we are going to have to learn to coexist. I'm up for it if you are. Welcome to citizensugar!
47Cotton, if you think America is a joke, I hope you don't live here. If you do, move to another country.
48hartsfull: calm down. i think america is a joke a lot of the time too... and i'm not going anywhere. you want to live in a country where everyone agrees on everything? then move to china, they are way ahead of us on stifling dissent and killing people who question things.
49America isn't a joke, it's some of the people here, not the whole country, same as anywhere else.
