Money is just one of those things that has the ability to make even the most even-keeled person feel uncomfortable. Of course it's a topic that needs to be discussed when you're in relationship, but what about with friends? While I understand there is a time and a place for money talk, it can bring a real sense of awkwardness to the table when friends ask inappropriate questions like how much something costs or how much money you make. I know this is a touchy subject, so ladies, where do you stand on talking about money with friends?

I don't really recall any real in depth money talks with friends. I might complain about rent or something but that's about it.
1It doesn't bother me. Me and my 6 girlfriends are extremely close so we can talk to each other about anything even money.
2I was actually discussing money with my friend yesterday, but we were discussing it abstractly. I am worried that I'm not saving for retirement correctly, and was musing what % of savings should go into retirement vs in a more accessible account. I don't want to tie up money that I might need for an emergency or down payment or something in a few years.
But, we weren't talking numbers. Just theoretically.
I have to say, if someone asks how much I paid for my couch or something, I guess it's technically rude, but it honestly doesn't bother me at all.
I don't know - this isn't something that I honestly think about much at all.
3I personally don't like to talk money with friends. In my case it's usually a matter of them asking me how much I spent on a particular item and then giving me a speech on why I should have saved that money. They was I see it, it's not your money so don't worry about it!!! On the other hand, I do have one very good friend that I discuss somethings but it's more along the lines of taking steps that will benefit me financially in the future, etc.
4I don't mind when friends ask how much I spent on something even when they ask how much I paid for my house but not how much I make. That's none of there business and I don't care how much they make.
5For some reason, I find it tacky to talk about how much you make. I've never talked about it with anyone except my parents and my husband. People don't usually ask me how much my things cost, but I'll brag about it a little if I got a really good deal.
6I don't mind talking money with friends. If one of them asks me how much something cost, I'll gladly tell them. I have never gotten anyone who said oh, you shouldn't have done that for this and that reason, they just want to know. Most of the time I will tell them, and be like "Ugh, this cost more than I wanted to spend, but I felt like I deserved a gift" or something. I will tell them about great items that I got at an awesome price as well.
7I think I'm pretty open discussing how much things cost, how much I make, etc. But maybe I shouldn't be?? lol
8I don't mind talking about money with my close friends...we've done it several times in the past. Not a big deal to me. I don't know...I don't get "weird" about it like some people do, I guess.
9I can't stand it when women talk about other people's money. This is especially true when they cross the TMI line about their significant other's income.
10I've had lots of people ask me how much my rent is, but I guess I didn't mind much because they were looking for apartments near my area. I don't really remember ever being asked what something cost, not even my boyfriend, and unless it's to my parents or my boyfriend, I won't even tell them. Some people have asked how much I make (I worked part-time, so it wasn't my career), but I felt uncomfortable because I felt like it wasn't their business. I didn't mind telling my boyfriend, but not someone I'd JUST met three minutes ago. I think if I BUY something, like a house, a car or something I'm paying with my OWN money, that's off-limits. For now, when people ask about rent, bills, insurance, etc. I don't feel as protective because I'm not paying.
11I guess I really don't think of it as a private thing. Maybe when I'm older and have bought my own house and have an actual career. When people ask how much I pay for rent or on clothes I just usually take it that they are interested b/c they might need to look for an apartment or like the shirt and want to know if they can afford it w/out having to go to the mall or whatever. That's usually the reason I ask how much something is.
12We discuss money all the time especially how none of us have any.
