Ahh, 1970. It was a very Goodyear bad year for women and being taken seriously. This Goodyear ad for polyglas tires, which is set up like a horror film complete with a menacing soundtrack, claims that "when a woman's at the wheel, polyglas means more than mileage." Alert the press! Woman on the road! Hide your children! The earth may spin off its axis! (No wonder the '70s was a huge decade for the women's movement.)
Thanks, Feministing!

I love how they set it up like the woman's the villain--that eyebrow! That music!
1"Slide over baby and let me take the control, I mean the wheel."
2Now I see where these guys nowadays always say women can't drive. They've been listening to the old man from the commercial.

I love seeing this old stuff it is hilarious!
4I'm DYING over here. The Psycho-esque music when she starts driving? Priceless.
5Um, wow. 1971 wasn't that long ago.
6that music is priceless. It's bad enough her tires are goodyear, plus she's a dangerous to everyone because she's behind the wheel.
7It's just her. I am a WAY better driver than my husband!
