Barack Obama's full hour on Meet the Press is just starting where I am — are you watching? Did you see it already?

Earlier this week Politico called the appearance "a potentially decisive broadcast." Is it? Did anything strike you?

Okay, I'm flipping back and forth between Obama and Clinton (on This Week on ABC) and it's like watching a debate where the two of them aren't in the same room. I'm not wild about the fact that the first 25 mins of Meet the Press were given over to the Wright thing and Obama's American values. I just don't think that we need more answers on those issues. I think we've decided how we feel already, haven't we?
Hillary was answering audience questions and Obama was having a cozy chat with Russert, so I was drawn to the spark of Hillary's performance--it seemed like the stakes were higher and the questions tougher.
As for "decisive broadcast"? I'm waiting. . .
1I just can't believe that Obama was a parishioner of Rev. Wright's for 20 years and didn't suspect how crazy he was? Either the Reverend just had a complete mental breakdown or Mr. Obama is lying about the type of church he supports.
2Looking at the atmosphere within the south-Chicago communities, until one steps outside that area, and then looks back, it doesn't sound all that crazy. A little edgy maybe, but not crazy.
3i agree undave, plus he is retired now and I could be because he may be a bit out of touch. Everyones life experience create their perceptions and no two people have exactly the same perceptions even if they have the exact same experience. What he says isn't anything I haven't heard so event tho I may not believe it I don't find it outrageous that someone else does. The media just fanned to flame because it makes for good headlines.
4I think saying we deserved 9/11 and that the government was behind the AIDS epidemic is pretty crazy. Did the media have to work all that hard to fan anything that inflammatory?
5He ain't the only one. He's not yelling fire in the theater but he is expressing how he feels to a large group who is willing to listen but then draw there own conclusions and I know a few vets who's thoughts aren't far off from his. Since I haven't fought in war I will continue to listen to them and draw my own conclusions with information from other sources. I also know that it has been a long speculated topic that AIDS was created by humans and that there is a cure, there is no profit in cure. It's much easier to tear down what we find different than to disagree and walk away. I don't agree with him but I'm open minded enough to listen to someone with a different point of view and not call him crazy or a lunatic or any other cheap shot. ***although I may joke around here on sugar :)***
6With as many people who have died from Aids, I can't see how a cure wouldn't be incredibly popular. I heard a pastor in Indy say aids was the Lord's way of punishing gays. Oh to live in the 80's again...
7I think we have all heard that one whether from a pastor or an elder ...its just a theory that I have heard more than once more than twice. Yes it's terrible to think but information has only been wildly available from many source for only a short time...we used to only have the newspaper and word of mouth. I'm just saying don't discard the rambling of some you don't think is credible as they may be the only one speaking the truth. It's OK not to believe it but it doesn't hurt you to hear it.
8The thing I give Obama the benefit of the doubt on as far as the wright thing goes is that a Church, like all other large organizations (and this Church is HUGE) has tons of people and the community sometimes matters more than the leader. Leaders are always out there in one way or another, but that shouldn't be enough to leave an entire community. He has been with this organization since he was in his 20s before he knew any better or ignored the pastors remarks that he knew no one actually takes seriously and focused on the good the pastor and the community does. I mean he has grown up with these people, to ask him to drop all of that because of some remarks that in the end don't change much is a little extreme.
9I just don't believe that anyone should be held responsible of what someone else says. It's like one of your friends saying that they hate people of a different race and then everyone elses pegs you as a racist as well just because of something your friend says, when in fact you are not. Is that at all fair? I think everyone feels the way the feel for one reason or another. Who's to say who's right and who's wrong?
10You can't judge a Barak by its pastor.
11The corporate media has been beating the Wright drum for so long I was thinking he may be running for President too. This morning the pastor at my church said "I better watch what I say cause I don't know which one of you plan to run for President a few yrs from now" Everybody laughed. That's how silly this whole thing is. That's how silly the media is. With all the tough issues facing this country right now all the Media cares about is BS distractions & sensationalism. Talking about the real issues will require them to do some real journalism. Can't have that. It's so much easier for them to have those armchair pundents sporting their expensive suits to come on the air with that irritating holier than thou air and spew all that fluff crap they love to do. Let's face it the media has basically been comatosed throughout the entire Bush administration. That's why we're in this mess in Iraq. Weapon of mass destruction my foot. God help the American people.
12I didn't get to see this! Arg! I ended up tivo-ing the Saturday version (which I think was last weeks) and it had Scalia on it. Now THAT scared me! He thinks the Constitution should be exactly as it was back in 1792...which works well unless you are a woman or a minority.
