Remember the anti-Islam video "Fitna" put out by a Dutch politician last month? Well a young Saudi businessman has decided to give Christianity the same treatment. Raed al-Saeed's increasingly popular video "Schism," mashes images of aggressive behavior by Christians with aggressive Bible-verses.
Unlike the Dutch video of violence by Muslims played to verses of the Koran, the Biblical version is not motivated by a desire to stop the spread of a religion. Instead, al-Saeed wanted to show that any religion, including Christianity, can easily be cast in an "evil" light. He told NPR that "It's not the right way to judge a religion by a video made by a guy who hated that religion."
To find out what images made the Christian version, read more.
Images of western soldiers in Iraq beating up alleged insurgents, a CNN broadcast of 2003's "Shock and Awe" bombing of Baghdad, terrorist attacks in Northern Ireland, fill the screen while violent biblical quotes — such as those from the Book of Samuel, urging killing mean, women, children, cattle — flash across the screen.
When the greater population is unfamiliar with a religion, which is often the case in the West with Islam, are violence characterizations more powerful? Will challenging videos, like al-Saeed's "Schism," help break down the us vs. them, good vs. evil narrative that exists between Christians and Muslims?

I don't really want to watch the video at work, but from what I saw here and on the npr article is the guy is using verses from the Old Testament, which I think, is unfair.
"For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ." (John 1:17)
I'm not saying that for Christians the Old Testament is rubbish, definitely not, but as most will tell you when you read the New Testament it's all about love, forgiveness, patience and peace.
Either way, it goes back to freedom of speech. If he wants to make this video and it's not slanderous or any of the other unprotected forms of speech, than he can do so.
1the Old Testament IS pretty violent, so I can see the point he's trying to make. However, his images sound like they're pretty subjective. Were our soldiers shouting verses while they beat up insurgents? Do they carry around flags with a cross on them?
2his supporting images sound subjective, is what I meant to say.
3How about instead of fight fire with fire, he makes a video explaining the Koran? It seems like all this is going to do is piss people off who are already pissed off. He should fight with knowledge and educate the ignorant.
4Cine, I like your idea. He should make one explain. Sometimes it's best to educate especially the people who don't know and those who make assumptions.
5Great point cine! and Kris! good morning
6Excellent point Cine!
7Morning ladies! It is SOOOOO beautiful out, I really wish I had off today!
8Good morning ya'll!
9I like the Quilliam Foundation (is that what it was called?) idea better. But I guess any kind of awareness helps, as long as it isn't just full-out slanderous of the other religion.
10Morning! I'm getting my caffein on! Let's party!
11I get off at noon tomorrow and I'm so excited about it!!
12Its so beauiful here too! I love having all the windows open in the morning!
13It's disgustingly humid here today, so I'm happy to be inside in the AC.
14I don't think the windows open in my buidling. And I don't know if I can go for a walk today at lunch because I have new heals on, and boy do they hurt my toe! But you ladies would be proud. I went shopping over the weekend and bought some spring clothes.
15
go cine!
16ha we're a bad influence
17YOu ladies totally are! Oh well, I will just kick a person or two off my guest list
18oh cine, there is a little tear in my eye! you bought new shoes.
19My post disappeared, I tried to add an image.
Fitna was truthful.
Christians and Jews have never made a video of masked men sawing off the head of a Daniel Pearl type Muslim.
Our Soldiers do not scream "God (the true one) is Great" before shooting a gun at at insurgents.
Our Soldiers have not been lied to about 72 (white grapes, original translation) "virgins" waiting for them if they'll strap a bomb vest on and walk into a crowd of people before detonating it.
Our Soldiers do not use or train young children. Our Soldiers help injured children get the medical attention they desperately need. Show me a masked Muslim carrying a child in his arms to get the child away from the fighting.
Radical Muslims and their leaders are cowards. I can prove it. al Sadr is a total WUSS. Osama bin Laden is a weak stomached old man. Neither are willing to fight along side their followers. They and other "big shot" radical Muslims hide in Muslim friendly Countries or burkhas in caves in Afghanistan. They order others to do their fighting. Taliban and al Qaeda are WEAKLINGS.
Our Generals are there on the field. US Soldiers are strong willed.
This video and Fitna are comparing apples and okra.
20Well I had to because my sister in law is getting married and I am a bridesmaid so I just HAD to get new shoes for that. Then I had to go to an engagement party for a friend, and I am a bridesmaid in her wedding too, so i HAD to get new shoes for the party.
I mean it really had nothing to do with want, these were shoes I HAD to get.
21hey, you don't have to justify anything to me Cine!
i was sad when I heard they were
not going to make Polariod film anymore, because that's what I use to identify my shoes on the outside of their box.
22Kris you can still order a lot of polariod film on line. I just ordered a ton of it for the big day. You can find it on e-bay.
It makes me so sad everything is going to digital. I love film and it is so much better.
23cine your life is wedding mania right now!
24I have blisters on my right heel from my big girl shoes yesterday.... damn uncomfortable shoes!!
25cine that sounds so fun. i am jealous!
26Part of the reason I had to trim down my shoe collection was because I had surgery on my right foot. so although my tootsie still fits into many of my slippers, it isn't as flexible as it used to be. sadness. I had to wear flats for a while, and now every time the weather changes my foot gets stiff.
If any of you ever consider bunion surgery, talk to me!
27Tell me about Sy! It has been like that for the past 3 years. I am so done with weddings and being a bridesmaid. Thank goodness I think this year I will only be a bridesmaid twice and then I think I am done for a long while.
I have a blister on my pinky toe
Kris, my mother refuses to get bunion surgery. She says it will do more harm then good, but her feet are messed up so I thought it would be worth the try.
28We had an art gallery opening last Thursday where I just had to wear four inch hills because it went with my outfit. I swear my feet are still hurting. I don't know how women wear those shoes on a daily basis. I bow dow to you.
Hey, can one of you ladies send me the link to the emoticons. We just updated puters and my link got lost in the shuffle. I would be much obliged!

I wear heels pretty much every day but I do minimal walking. Plus I don't find that mine hurt me?
30i wear them almost every day too, but certain pairs kill me. for me, it's the way the arch is shaped, and how much pressure it puts on my toes. I have some really high ones that barely bother my feet at all.
or maybe it's my burning desire to be taller that numbs me to the pain.
31when i worked i got used to heels, now that i don't work, one day in heels is like a punishment!
32thanks, syako! I inherited my tootsies from my cavewomen ancestors, not conducive to four inch heels. They look cute in flip-flops though!
33boy, we are ON topic today!
34heck yes.
35well there isn't much to say on this topic... it sucks, but its free speech, so what can ya do?
THOUGH! I remember the Fitna post where everyone was saying that that video should be banned because it incites violence... so I wonder if those people will say the same about this one...
Me thinks not...
36well if they can wade through our discussion about weddings and feet, they might leave a comment. or they might give up.
Sy, I watched a movie last night!!! (singsong)
37I work in Manhattan, I just can't bring myself to wear a cute dress and sneakers when walking through the city. I will deal with the blisters.
I do walk around all day barefoot at work, so that helps.
38Man, people get so upset about this!
I think he was clever in doing this. Yes there are other roads he could have taken, such as a video showing the good side of Islam, but this is showing how uneducated people are about faiths other than their own.
And don't try to act like Christians, Catholics, and Jews never had crazy extremist groups that take their faith too far. It happens is EVERY religion. People just look at Muslims and see extremist terrorists right away, don't deny it because you think you're better than that, every human makes snap judgments. The point is that they are no worse than us and we are no better than them.
39"THOUGH! I remember the Fitna post where everyone was saying that that video should be banned because it incites violence... so I wonder if those people will say the same about this one..."
Oh I am sure they will go on about how the Bible is violent.
40well Cine, you don't want to look like Working Girl. As hot as she was, the look is just OUT.
41"And don't try to act like Christians, Catholics, and Jews never had crazy extremist groups that take their faith too far."
I don't think anyone did that.
42I don't think anyone got upset about this. At all.
43What movie?
44
haha i'm upset (not really)
45On topic thought - I find it kinda funny that he used images of our soldiers yelling at people, as if every SINGLE American soldier is Christian...
That makes me think this video is more about being anti-Western and less about being anti-Christian, or even trying to make the argument against Christians.
46we watched the orphanage by guillermo del toro last night. Oh man talk about creepy! But awesome. Did you guys see Pan's Labyrinth? That was a masterpiece!!
47oh, i know the Bible is violent! you won't get any denial from me there. I took it upon myself to read some Old Testament before Easter, as well as compare the 4 Gospels. It's so interesting as an adult to read the same stories you learned as a child, and get an adult perspective on them. I was honestly shocked!
48cabaker you said exactly what i was thinking! there are plenty of non-Christian and non-religious soldiers who serve the same cause.
49well I didn't watch the video yet, but does he have crazy pastors screaming stuff like god damn america, I mean,
screaming stuff like kill infidels like Fitna did?
