Hillary managed to escape the “demilitarized zone” by grabbing a genuine 10 point victory in Pennsylvania. Still, it’s not quite obvious where this thing will go. I predict three possibilities, which seem to depend not on the margin of victory, but on how much Hillary can fundraise.

- Hillary could go out on this win, blaming her exit on being outrageously out-fundraised by Barack.
- A significant amount of superdelegates, fearful that Clinton will operate a “scorched earth” campaign by taking this thing to the convention, will come out for Barack who leads in the pledged delegate count.
- Hillary will get a fundraising surge, and push for Florida and Michigan votes to be factored in. That, with some good showings in North Carolina and Indiana, will help her make the argument that she won the popular vote, or that she is more electable than Barack.
Like Super Tuesday and Junior Super Tuesday, I think the Pennsylvania primaries will be a wash. The goal posts will be moved further back, and what is needed to win the nomination will again be redefined. What do you think? Hillary won the contest, but does she win the spin?
To see Citizen's reaction, read more.
Citizen: My question isn't if Hillary has won the spin or even if she has a chance to go all the way, it's why can't Barack Obama wrap this up? If everyone is as gung-ho "yes we can," as we're meant to believe, why did he lose last night? And in a huge pivotal state like Pennsylvania?
I think I'm having a Hillary Renaissance. I'm thinking back on the coverage of her campaign over the past six weeks, and I'm seeing a pretty harsh hand. The Bosnia misspeak? I hardly think it was the malicious deed we've been conditioned to think it was. And I'm done holding Bill's . . . tongue against her. I just don't know that I'm willing to swallow the Hillary-as-Devil or Lady Loser trope the media would like us to consume. I say bring on Indiana and North Carolina! Heck, even my little home state might get to have a say!
My only real concern is if the Democrats rage on, McCain stays out of the fray and might have a hard time inspiring campaign contributions in his idyllic solo sojourn.
How do you think the next few weeks will play out? Are there going to be big superdelegate announcements? A big shake up?

I was worried for a moment that you were up at 3:30 am posting this Liberty. Then I remembered that you were in California. Whew! Clearly it's time for me to go to bed!
Liberty I think it's going to be option 2 or 3. You KNOW she's not going to drop out.
Citizen I hear you! It's nice to read about someone questioning the ridiculous portrayal the media has been touting. Besides how could Hillary and Bush both be the devil?
1I think this was big for Hillary. Especially considering Obama spent about $11 million on advertising and she only spent $5 mil. and she still won by 10 points.
2exactly this was Obama fourth chance to close this deal... those bitter comments came back to bite him in the arse. Hils got an overwhelming majority of church goers and gun owners
3Well, we know that Hilary is definately not going to drop out. But I have to say that I am started to get worried about McCain. All you hear about now on the news is Obama or Clinton...what happened to McCain?
4I wouldn't worry about McCain, he's still travelling all the time and getting the word out... Plus if he's not on attack, that makes me him look better.
So we go to May 6 now, and then after that whats the next primary? Are there anymore?!?! hahah haven't we done them all?? It sure feels like it!
5He was down by 20 points and made up 10. Not a huge loss. Also the east coast favors Hilary. Pennsylvania borders New York, her state. Obama was never expected to win Pennsylvania and he did pretty decent. Nothing will change. This will go to the convention.
6I would like to make a comment about the voting process of this election as a young voter in PA.
I have voted every time I have been able to for the past 4 years I have been a resident here. Never had I had a problem, until I noticed a conspiracy theory like trend at the booths. They somehow lost my voter registration card...fine. All the old people go to the booths and another young guy comes in and the same thing happened to him! I think rendel pulled all the young voters cards so that they would get frustrated leave and not vote (since those are the obama voters)...just my over thinking.
7The coverage of this woman wasn't nearly harsh enough.
The media didn't even touch Mark Penn they way they should have. The woman got away with not answering a thing about that situation. When asked in a press conference about the issue her arrogant answer was a shrill a laugh and the comment "How many angels dance on the head of a pin?"
Bosniagate was nothing, there were so many other inconsistencies with her experience claim it isn't funny.
And as far as how can she and Bush both be the devil, many would argue, myself included, that the Bush/Clinton dynasty is the devil and that's how they both can be called that.
8GO HILLARY GO
9I spoke with quite a few Pennsylvanians, and many of them said that they were voting for Hillary now, but that they would vote for Obama in the general election if he is the nominee. Many of them said that things were good during the Clinton years for them. When people ask why Obama hasn't sealed the deal, well it is because he is running against someone that had 8 years being a very public political figure. There were many democrats that campaigned for the Clinton's back in the day. It does take some time for people to get to know the new guys.
"The Bosnia misspeak? I hardly think it was the malicious deed we've been conditioned to think it was."
She made the same "misspeak" 4 times! That is intentional to me. Once is one thing. Four times is quite another.
10"The media didn't even touch Mark Penn they way they should have."
Mark Penn was her top advisor, and these things bother me about him.
1.) He was lobbying on behalf of the Columbian trade agreement, which she claims to not support.
2.) He is the CEO of a lobbying company...and he is her top advisor???
3.) That lobbying company represents Haliburton and Blackwater. (Penn has been with her for 9 years). How can Hillary have an unbiased view on the war, when her advisor is working for the 2 companies that profit the most from it?
11Hillary R Clinton is going to win the nomination. The bloggers (myself included) have been doing their best to get the truth about Barack H Obama out to the public and it's slowly working.
Barack H Obama is untried, un-outstanding, unknown, obviously bitter for choosing Jeremiah Wright as a mentor, obviously elitist (no matter what he wants to say, Michelle complaining about paying back school loans yet spending $10,000 a year on their 2 kids' summer activities, clinched that title), and obviously two faced. He's half white. He's only 7/16 Arab-Kenyan and 1/16 Negro/African. To legally be an African-American (or more PC an American-African) one must have 1/8 Negro/African blood line. He doesn't qualify. So his "African-American" status, like the rest of his persona, is a L-I-E.
Read it all at http://www.theobamafile.com where it is all documented. Did you know that Senator Barack H Obama has dual citizenship with Kenya? Why is this hidden? Do you know that one of his proudest moments was when his brother Roy converted to Islam? Why is that Senator Barack Hussein Obama?
12One final comment, I swear!
She can't say she has momentum. In EVERY SINGLE STATE she has started off with a huge lead, and when people get to know Obama, they shift to him. He has consistently cut her leads in half.
She only won 10 more delegates than him last night. According to the latest numbers, he now has a 156 delegate lead...which is higher than the 140 he was at before Pennsylvania! I don't know where that came from, but perhaps more supers have made their choice?
She can't win now, she wasn't going to win 1 month ago. If she REALLY cared about the people and policies she claims to represent, she would help them come to fruition much more by dropping out and supporting Obama. She is dividing the party for her own personal ambition, not because she really wants to see changes in the economy, war, and healthcare. To make those changes, we need a democratic win, period. She over estimates her own self importance.
13Auntie, once again you come on with tons of lies. Doesn't it make you feel a little bad to slander someone?
First off, in Wright's church EVERY MEMEBER must be enrolled in an outreach program to help the community. Literacy programs, spouse abuse support systems, mentoring children, bring church services to prisoners, helping AIDS/HIV patients, etc. Common sense would suggest that someone who was exposed to the church through community outreach would be drawn to that church because of their help in the community.
Obama knows he is half white! You act as if it is some shocking revelation. He has spoken about this many, many times. Did you listen or read his race speech? He talks about his family ALL THE TIME in his books. He grew up with his white grandparents, do you think he just forgot about that? He has never been deceitful about his race. At the end of the day, why does it matter to YOU so much?
I think you, like many Republicans, can't root for your own nominee, and you are scared of the democrats. I don't believe that thrash talking nominees with exaggerations and false claims helps anyone decide who would be the best president. Other conservative posters on this board have much higher standards of discussion, and I respect what they have to say.
14I am offended about the breakdown but what got me was the 1/16 Negro/African; however, I looked at your page and I can understand your mindset from the time you were born and during the time it was good to use language and have a certain mindset during your time (it is 2008, wake the h*ll up).
15Jillness -- AGREED!
16That is the mindset that some Americans really need to let go. Sighs.
17"He's only 7/16 Arab-Kenyan and 1/16 Negro/African. To legally be an African-American (or more PC an American-African) one must have 1/8 Negro/African blood line"
Is Kenya not a part of Africa?
According to my math:
7/16 + 1/16 = 8/16 = 1/2
So he is one half African American because his dad is (in the most literal sense of the word) African American.
You might want to go edit that website...
18Jill, the thing that pisses me off is that she continues with her rant. She does not discuss any issues like the other ladies and gents on the board. If anyone ever wants to say racism is not alive please look no farther. Does it matter what he is - He is American, that is all that matters.
19Jillness, I don't think Auntie Coosa's remarks should even dignify a response.
They are beyond offensive.
In the end, I see McCain having a much better chance of winning than I ever thought before because Clinton and Obama are dividing the Democratic party by fighting amongst themselves. One of them is going to have to take the high road and fight fair or get out in order for the party to win.
For the record though, I don't support any of the final three candidates.
20Obama has worked toward helping the impoverished in American neighborhoods his entire adult life. When he graduated college, he made $12,000 a year as a community organizer helping areas that were greatly effected by steel mill closures. He then to law school because it would enable him to help the community that much more. He became an expert on the most American of things, the Constitution. He was on the Harvard Law Review, a group which 6 SUPREME COURT JUSTICES have come from. When he graduated law school, he went back to the same community work. He taught Constitutional Law.
He is a self made man, and has had his focus on the most patriotic of service his whole life. His career has been all about helping communities and the Constitution! It boggles my mind when people try to paint him as unAmerican. It couldn't be further from the truth. Seriously.
21I agree Gooniette! McCain does have a much better shot with the democratic division.
22Jill, I don't know why you think that Republicans can't root for McCain. We can, but there has not been many posts or attention on the man lately. I think you are generalizing us and it is a bit unfair. Just because we don't write with such passion about McCain, does not mean we lack enthusiasm.
"I think you, like many Republicans, can't root for your own nominee, and you are scared of the democrats."
On this. You are correct, I am terrified of the Democrats. It is because I see them going down a path of Socialism that I am completely against, and yes, terrified of. It has nothing to do with Democrats taking office, it has to do with who the Democrats are that might take office.
P.S. Auntie likes to ruffle feathers. Just try to ignore it.
23I'm with cine. And I am really scared of socialism.
24in regards to the michigan florida garbage, im sick of her people trying to count them. i think they should count but shouldnt determine the outcome of the race. if 2 states who so blatenly broke the rules overturns what the other 48 states voted then that is so wrong on so many levels. and its hypocritical on her part, b/c wasnt her whole argument that not seating MI and FL would be not letting their voices be heard? whatever just like the post said the goalposts are moved again and its always something different to keep her in.
25Jillness, you hit it perfectly.
Aunt Coosa, you are entitled to your opinions but when you try and present things like "1/7 Negro/African" as fact, then you cross the line and sound like you're coming out of 1937, not 2008.
We don't use language like that anymore and it's really insulting to hear that stuff, especially as a minority. I don't try and cut up your lineage, so why do that to someone else?
26you know what, you don't even have to be a minority to be insulted by that post so disregard that statement.
27I am just shocked more people haven't said anything.
28I think there is a 4th alternative.
4)In a legal maneuver, Hillary gets all of MI and FL to count, and all MI and FL votes go to her. She wins the nomination, and destroys the democratic party in the process.
One can only hope.
29Maybe Republicans can answer me something seriously. In the time your party has come to power, we've gone into a spiraling historic debt, engaged in a war that a Republican commander-in-chief has botched completely, and who has started domestic illegally wiretapping it's own citizens. I really am wondering what makes you afraid the Democrats could do any worse?
30I don't think Michigan or Florida will be counted without a re-vote.
31Obama wasn't even on the ballot in those states, so there will be a huge uproar if they are counted.
Ha, raciccarone. I totally agree.
32I think it's time for a new party to emerge: The Party for the Ethical Treatment of Citizens!
I agree with Cine on this .. right now McCain is being given a free pass while the media is all over the other two. That does not mean people are not passionate about McCain.
33Well to be honest, I don't think a lot of what Bush's administration has done is really considered "conservative" or within "republican" ideals.
I am scared of more government. I think that the government(federal) exists only to do those things which are out of my hands (national defense/security) and should stay out of my biz-ness in every other way. I'm not a monster, if I feel like helping people I will do so PRIVATELY not through a state/federal program. The democrats want to raise taxes (which I despise taxes) to fund these social programs and other programs as Jill will soon point out but I don't want more government I want LESS GOVERNMENT!
That's what I'm scared about.
34we're just 'illin, right betty?
35Rac why don't you answer me this, how can you blame a Republican for all of what you just mentioned? You don't think Clinton had ANYTHING to do with what you just mentioned? Or that any of the Democrats that held office during this presidency had anything to do with our current problems? Or that our citizens making poor financial decisions should carry some of the blame?
And for the THOUSANDTH time. Just because you are a Republican or a Conservative OR both, does not mean you agree with Bush. There are bad presidents on both sides of political parties.
For arguments sake, let say that I feel all of this is Bush's fault, don't you think I should make the best choice possible in choosing whom I feel will get this country on the right track instead of down a path I don't agree with. Why would I vote for someone that I don't agree with 95% of what they say? Just because they are of an opposing party of our current president? That seems like a very immature way of voting for a President.
36
37One more thing. Most true Conservatives, do NOT consider Bush a reflection of Conservative political philosophy, and regret that people refer to him as a Conservative.
38"I am scared of more government. I think that the government(federal) exists only to do those things which are out of my hands (national defense/security) and should stay out of my biz-ness in every other way. I'm not a monster, if I feel like helping people I will do so PRIVATELY not through a state/federal program. The democrats want to raise taxes (which I despise taxes) to fund these social programs and other programs as Jill will soon point out but I don't want more government I want LESS GOVERNMENT!"
-I totally agree with this paragraph!
39I totally agree with you syako.
40my biz-nass, my biz-ness
41ahhhh the wonders of democracy! maybe cuz i'm in a good mood but i love the debates around these parts.
Cine, i think you make a good point. Bill Clinton definitely played a role in where we are today as a country (NAFTA anyone?) but he also presided over a huge economic surge and things didn't seem so bad in the 90's.
However, we all know that's far from the truth but i think a lot of liberals see the Clinton years with such rose-colored glasses because things seem (okay ARE) worse with Bush in power. Name your issue and things seem to have gotten worse under the last 8 years - gas prices, war costs, job insecurity, the high price of living, the mortgage crisis, and the list goes on. Of course Bush isn't entirely to blame but poor management and lack of foresight definitely plays a role.
I like that you reiterate that you're not all ra-ra-ra Bush because it forces me to see that conservatives are not just one monolithic bloc (same with liberals) who all think the same things. Frankly, i think we all have a lot more in common that we do different but it's the approach to get there that makes us different.
42Listen, I don't want more government any more than you. But McCain has agreed with Bush on almost every major policy decision so why do you think it will be any different? With that in mind, Bush as expanded government more than most modern Presidents, so I am pretty afraid that McCain will do the same. What proof is there that he won't. I'm actually asking as a McCain courter.
43let me redo the last sentence:
Frankly, i think we all have a lot more in common than we realize but it's the approach to reach those goals that makes us so different.
44you're a raccoon!
45As for blaming the Democrats I feel very strongly that if President Gore were presiding over the past eight years, things would indeed look much better economically, internationally and domestically.
46well there is definitely proof that both Hilary AND Obama definitely will expand government, right?
47No we'd all be overrun by polar bears if Gore had been president
48Someone said that they call me raccoon, so I thought I'd oblige.
49It's awesome!
