The Florida Senate just passed an amendment to impose a $60 fine on Truck Nutz the oh-so-classy novelty item that adorns vehicle trailer hitches that resemble "the dangling southern end of a northbound bull." The proposal would make displaying bull genitalia reproductions on a vehicle subject to a $60 fine, moving violations and points against a driver license.

In debate, Sen. Jim King said he had a set on one of his vehicles, describing his ride as "all pimped out." He clarified the point saying they are no more than "an expression of truckliness." He's since removed his balls at his wife's request. Perhaps more to the point, Sen. Steve Geller said of the debate, "I find it shocking we'd tell people with metallic testicles on their bumpers that this is a violation. There's got to be better things for us to spend time debating."
Not to be outdone, in the surprising things you hear in state legislatures departments, to check out what went down in Colorado, read more. In the Colorado legislature, State Rep. Douglas Bruce made a somewhat indelicate comment during debate on a bill set to allow the state to help immigrant workers get temporary federal visas. The measure is intended to ease a shortage of farm workers in the state. He said,
"I would like to have the opportunity to state at the microphone why I don't think we need 5,000 more illiterate peasants in Colorado."
The comment drew gasps from his fellow lawmakers. Rep. Bruce narrowly escaped censure for his remarks, which he creatively defended using the dictionary. Oh, and this guy has been censured before, for kicking a photographer during opening prayer.
So? Which is worse? Passing a law on jalopy genitalia or calling immigrants peasants? Or that this happens in government at all?

Christian Dior
I had heard about this a while ago! I'm pretty shocked it passed.
Though I absolutely HATE those stupid things, I see people around here with them all the time. I honestly don't think anything is more tacky and tasteless.
1What's wrong with a good set of balls? If politicians actually had them this country would be in much better shape.
2I first saw truck balls recently here in tx, but given the area we were driving in it didn't surprise me. I think they will soon go the way of the Big Johnson and Co-Ed Naked Sports shirts. Thankfully, away into oblivion! OH, and the Calvin peeing stickers... they've finally disappeared. That was a dating deal-braker for me in college. If a boy had a Calvin peeing on anything sticker on his truck, see ya later!
3Oh Kris, there are still so many Calvin stickers. Every time I see a truck with one of those I just shake my head.
You girls are getting me excited to move down south! I can't wait to see all the differences. I have never seen dangling balls, but I bet when I go and visit Seattle this summer I will see some truck with them.
And I should say I have not seen dangling balls on trucks
4i think dangling balls are stupid and silly and gross, but a law about it?? not really government's business
5Yea Laurel I agree... This is not something that should be legislated. But its kinda one of those happy accident things... I don't agree with it being legislated, but I like the end prouct. Like the smoking ban!
6do they still make calvin stickers? ugh.
7OMG. I have seen quite a few of these here and I live in FL. When I first saw one I was like WTH?!?
8um, yeah they're tasteless, but so are a lot of bumper stickers. So what' next, outlawing certain bumper stickers? This is definitely a freedom of speech issue.
9Honoré de Bal-Zac! Goodness, Florida should have just let the truck thing be. Bill Clinton educated kindergarteners on s*x, so I'm sure most kids able to see over their car seats know what is going on. What a WASTE of taxpayer money. If I lived in Florida, I'd be lobbying to replace the Legislature with adults! Seems the teen-tween-agers don't know what's important and what's not.
The Colorado Legislature needs to quit trying to be so "PC" and just admit the truth. MOST illegal aliens ARE uneducated peasants. Why does anyone think they have a problem learning English? They never learned Spanish! Most have MAYBE a first or second grade education because their parents have to PAY for education, it's not free.
Why do you think they come here in the first place? Even less than minimum wage and a free education for their children is better than living in squaller. ONLY PROBLEM is that they are ineligible for both because they are FELONS having broken into/crossed the border of "Casa USA" and stolen goods and services rightfully belonging to US Citizens.
Why do they not go through the process of applying for green cards? Because they can't read the paperwork! BUT THAT IS NO EXCUSE FOR CRIMINAL ACTIVITY.
If our States would grow those Bal-zacs that Florida displays on bumper hitches, and pass laws making illegal, undocumented, uneducated peasants ineligible for goods and services, we would not have them draining the States dry.
It is NOT an "employment" issue as Citizens will work! They just refuse to work for the pennies that undocumented, uneducated peasants will work for. And therein lies the "problem." Employers want to keep their money for their CEOs and not pay Citizens a fair wage.
I'm not being 'mean' or 'hateful' as it is the illegal alien who is being mean and hateful for coming to the USofA unlawfully and stealing goods and services from YOU and me.
10Well San Fran wants to fine depending on the size car you drive, Florida is dictating what is inappropriate. We are on a wonderful path
11This is so stupid.
This is where tax dollars are going?
ugh...I'm really starting to get sick of government interference in EVERYTHING, if I wanted to live in China I would move there (mild exaggeration here).
12illiterate peasants? I know way more ignorant and uneducated Americans than i do illiterate peasants. Stupid statements like that do nothing to endear America, behind him there are thousands other idiots who were probably C students or less, and then there are people like me who read that and think typical. what's America's literacy rate again??? What a douchebag.
13In the meantime, lots of meaningful legislation sits waiting to be debated because we can't get over partisanship.....
14As a responsible car owner, I had mine neutered.
15I'm sort of happy they decided to fine for balls on trucks. I see them all over the place where I live and they're just ridiculous. Not really offensive, just stupid.
16lol @ raciccarone.
17i think you'd have to have pretty big "nutz" (and a pretty tiny brain) to be driving a big truck like that right now with gas prices being what they are. let them have their stupid ornaments. it's better than a gun rack.
18Well I don't think you can compare the two, but I sure would like a pair of those nuts to hang on my bike, lol.
The rubber testicles are no worse than those stainless steel mud flap decals of naked women that you see on semis and large pick-ups. I remember seeing those when I was a little boy and just seeing those pointy stainless steel nipples sparkle in the sun light like solar tassels. It was mesmerizing.
As for the illiterate peasant remark I will reserve my judgment because I do not have the benefit of knowing this state senator as my representative or his history. He could have been calling a tree a tree or he could have just been an @$$ #o!&.
19That's easy for you to say, yesteryear, but as a real axle specialist, I'm tired of having someone's balls in my face all day!
20That's the silliest thing I have ever heard. They are pretty gross though.
21Quick point -- pretty sure that the FL Ball-Bill has to pass in the House and then get signed by the Governor before it's actually enforceable.
Also, if I remember correctly, the Ball-Bill didn't start out as a Ball-Bill -- it's actually a provision that was added by amendment to a much larger (presumably less idiotic) transportation bill. Don't remember the vote on the amendment, but I'm inclined to say that it was a close vote.
The only "pro" to the provision is that Florida is in the middle of cutting 10% from every state budget -- and as a result there will likely be a number of un(der)funded mandates passed down to cities and counties -- depending on the popularity of this vehicle accessory in a given locale within FL, the bill may provide some (albeit small) income to cash-strapped municipalities.
That being said... it's ridiculous and embarrassing. And Steve Geller is just trying to buy back respect from the public since he's the charming Democrat who so sincerely attempted to get the FL Primary date moved to comply with the DNC's requests. I'm sure if someone can find the audio for this particular episode, he'll be just as genuine as he was during the 2007 Session.

I agree with Cine_lover. Legislating something like this is absurd. By the way, I love, love, love the Barry Goldwater avatar.
While tacky, should we now fine those with big old male Great Danes? Have you seen the balls on those?!
23seriously? This is ridiculous! I find them disgusting and immature, but that doesn't mean the government should be able to tell people if they can or can't have these on their trucks.
24What are they gonna make us stop doing next? What happend to expressing yourself? There are many more IMPORTANT issues that need to be addressed.
25Want to know what I think the best accessory for a truck is? A hot woman (like my wife [I may be biased here]).
26Those balls are so disgusting. I will be happy to see them go! I am not terribly conflicted over people's rights to display genitals on their vehicles in public.
27If we are going to make tastelessness a crime, they had better build some new prisons.
28If we make tastelessness a crime, I hope they don't come looking for me.
29I'm glad they are outlawing it!! it's tacky and demeaning.
30Hahaha Lainetm, so true!
31Our budget was going be cut by a couple a million, They left us alone, probably just happy after discussing Nuts on the floor
32Another reason why I elect not to move home. That's tax payer money wasted. Unless they are going to do the same thing about "pimped out" cars with pin-up girls and other inappropriate paint jobs, they're just wasting time and money.
