Happy Birthday, Edna Parker!! The supercentenarian from Indiana turns 115 today! She was born in 1893. Grover Cleveland was President of the United States. Airplanes, television, mass-produced cars, penicillin, and the Empire State Building did not exist. Basically, Edna has seen a lot go down.
Edna's husband wasn't as lucky in life. Thus, Edna has been a widow since 1938, when Earl died of a heart attack. But living long does run in her family. Her sister Georgia lived to be 99, while her sister Opal was 88 when she died.
Scientists say that almost every supercentenarian has a mother, sister, or other family member who lived long. That's because old age is in the genes! Supercentenarians like Edna have genetic mutations that slow the aging process, or help them resist age-related diseases.
Scientists also point to the ability to manage stress as a reason they make it past 100. That's another reason to give yourself a break, and let go of whatever's bothering you today!
Thinking about the next generation of supercentenarians — how different do you think the world will look 115 years from now?

Supercentenarian sounds like she has a lot of legs.
1happy bday edna
2Sister Opal, what a slacker.
3115 years from now, this phenomenon will be way too common to do a story on it.
And to think, she doesn't look a day over 100.
4In 115 years from now, will we have a p0lanet worth living on? Global warming, oil shortages, war, famine, political instability... not the best cocktail for a bright future.
I wonder what the birthday "girl" thinks of the state of the world, as compared to what she grew up with... I am certain that she would have great insights.
5I wonder if she does a lot of crossword puzzles or something similar. There was a study done that people who kept their brain active and challenged lived longer and had less stress.
6And I only want to live to be 99 and a half. Guess I need to start thinking about my obituary.
Congrats on the long life and may she have as many more birthdays as she wants.
7Happy Birthday, Edna!
8I just want to here her speak and tell the gossip - you know she has some good stories.
9Wow. She must have some pretty cool stuff stored in that brain - I hope someone's taking the time to talk to her and record what she knows!
10Yae! for Edna.
I just think it's interesting that life expectancy in countries with all that horrible inferior socialized medicine is higher than the U.S. with our much superior system of health administration.
11Yes...let go of whatever's bothering you today!
12Dont let her watch E! she will end her life
