This could be the definitive documentary about that great wedge issue that is Fox News. I'm not casting aspersions at the "Fair and Balanced," but you know it's true: people either love it or hate it. Last night The Daily Show ran an amusing and pointed profile of the foxy network. It's a two-parter, but it's Friday! Take a break and check it out.
OK, I admit I have been known to make a critical remark or two about Fox News around here, but it's a complicated relationship. I don't hate the notion that a network should be able to provide a specific lens by which to view the news, but I do find some of their techniques a little ham-fisted. Be conservative, that's great — just don't be cheesy about it? But then loud noises, aggressive flag/explosion graphics and Alan Colmes scare me a little, so I tend to stay away. Not because I don't agree with them, just that it's not my preferred method of news delivery.
How about you? Are you a Fox News watcher, or a member of the Outfoxed nation? Do you love it? Hate it? Don't see what the big deal is? If you're a watcher, do you think that it tells objective news, or do you like it specifically because it's news that makes an argument?

it's gonna get hot in here.
1I watch Fox when the real facts just are too unpleasant to deal with.
2I watch my fox local a.m. news because I watch the Simpson's the night before, and If I forget to turn the tv off it's on in the morning. So I learned to like the newscasters.
3Here's my take. I get sick and tired of all news outlets that refer to the "media" as something that they aren't a part of. I'm not just talking about Fox news, I'm talking ever stinkin' medium available. What irks me about it is that it's like the pot calling the kettle black, you are the media. Rant 1.
I don't watch it because it makes me fired up (my husband even more) and to be quite honest I can only digest cable news (ANY broadcast news for that matter) at very very small doses. So if it is on, I think sometimes the guests they bring in could possibly result in interesting debates/discussions, but it seems too often they just talk over one another and show no respect. Rant 2.
To sum up, I HATE ALL CABLE NEWS SHOWS. There we go. Oh yea, and I typically hate all broadcast journalism. bad. bad. bad.
4Syako, for the same reasons I cannot listen to talk radio in the car. It's for the good of all citizens on the road.
5Well I love Fox and I love me some Bill!
That being said, of course its biased, but no more biased than any other network. And before someone comes in here and starts quoting Outfoxed... anyone who watches propaganda films and states them as fact has some real issues. Watching Outfoxed and forming your opinion on Fox News is about as smart as watching Farenheit 9/11 to form your opinion on the Iraq war.
If you hate Fox, hate it. But don't hate it for false reasons.
6Besides, Megyn Kelly is HOT!!
7syako i hate it when guests all talk over each other! it seriously makes me want to throw my t.v. out the window, lol.
8Yea I agree, I hit the mute button when it dissolves into a screaming match. But hey, at least they have both sides represented, even if poorly.
9Oh bill's the worst too cabaker. He like won't let them finish what they're saying and then he re-construes what they said to say something completely different. It's actually quite amusing sometimes. Of course Lou Dobbs does the same thing over on CNN so I guess it's just a "thing" for those guys.
10I love watching Fox News! I tried to watch Keith Oberman the other night and he is just so mad about everything. He even counts down his reasons for being ticked off that day. I loved him when he was on SportsCenter. He and Dan were great. Now he's just an angry liberal with hair that defies gravity and 95 mph winds. I don't see why the Dems won't go on O'Reilly because he has really given them unbiased coverage. Their choice to not go on the Factor just seems cowardly to me. Alan Colmes IS scary looking, kind of skeletonish. But he's a liberal. His looks are also a result of being ticked off all the time:).
11I watch Fox News so that I can run my gambling ring. We throw in a dollar, and bet on which pundit will interupt the other first. Whoever guesses right gets the pot. It's also a good drinking game, if you condone binge drinking.
12I dislike cable news. But I see nothing wrong with Fox being right wing biased. It is no more Right then EVERY SINGLE OTHER station is Left.
13I don't see what the BIG deal is. I always watch Fox News and so does my Dad. [he influenced me] All I hear about is how bad Fox News is. I'm tired of it.
14Bill used to be better, I will agree with you there. But I still like him, he's traditional and conservative but not as far right as people thing. For instance, he isn't against gay marriage. Also, he is working with Sen. Kerry to get better funding for the VA. He defended Obama a lot on the whole Rev. Wright thing AND he was against the Swift Boats last time around...
He's def. traditional and conservative, but he isn't nearly as bad as some other talk show hosts...
15Shop if you are tired of hearing how bad Fox news is, you are on the wrong blog site
16I think we can all agree that if you take 100% of your news from one channel, whether that be on cable, newspaper, blog, etc, then thats a bad idea. There's gotta be some balance.
And that is why I balance my Fox with CitizenSugar... Citizen's coverage is soooo comprehensive and I just LOVE to read her!!
(I'm still going for this month's prize... I hope no one noticed)
17What kind of prize cabaker? The prize for biggest kiss up?
18
19You will never take me down
20Ugh I wish! Hey whatever it takes to get a spatula!
21
22
Cabaker and Cine. I may be on the wrong blog site Cine but I can't quit coming here. I'm
addicted!
23I'm so winning this month its not even funny. Y'all can just stop commenting right now!
24Well you may win for biggest kiss up, but never for most posts. NEVER I TELL YOU!
25Well you can't win again, so TOUGH!
You can take your spatula and GO HOME!!
26There is no way you can beat me! I have all the extras on my side. I'm white, I'm male, and I'm not poor. Therefore I have to be the winner this month.
27
Cabaker.
28fox isn't news, it's "info"tainment.
and yes, i meant to put the quotation marks.
29Oh I just thought of another reason why I like Fox!
Uma Pemmaraju!
Hands down best name in TV news.
After she is on all I can think of is UUUmmmmmaaa Pemmarajuuuuuuu.....
Oooooommaaa..... pemarajuuuuuuuu....
30I seriously think some people in broadcast journalism change their names to sound more ethnic and therefore more attractive to news shows seeking more "diverse" news.
31I don't want t.v. news period. All media has a bias, it's impossible for it not to. You've got the Wash Post leaning slightly right; the NYT leaning slightly left, etc. But I do believe that Fox is among the worst as far as bias goes, and they don't even try to disguise it.
And though Keith Olbermann sometimes cracks me up, his anger can be really offputting. Although I tend to agree with him politically, he can be as grating as the Fox folks. That's why I read my news rather than watch it. I can be more selective that way and not have to listen to someone rant crazily.
32I don't watch any news except BBC America. It's really the best news source out there! They have been featuring Ted Koppel a lot lately, and I love him!!
33I watch Fox just because it's different. People how say Foxnews is more biased than other media outlets are the same people who tell me I have an accent and deny that they have an accent because everyone they know talks like they do.
34I don't own a television set, so I watch Fox clips online and I watch CNN Live online.
I do notice that the "fair and balanced" doesn't let both sides actually define themselves. Usually the "sound bite" is too small to really get to the meat of the situation. That's where the written word comes in when I'm online. I just find the original article the news-clip came from and read it.
Ambivalent is what I am. Am I the only one?
35Fox News is not just biased, it is also blatantly wrong a lot of the time, and then refuses to correct itself, so people out there keep getting misinformation and believe it to be true. For example- http://blog.wired.com/games/2008/01/ea-asks-fox-to.html.
36Also, they use extremely biased and uncredible witnesses- such as Jack Thompson, who is currently awaiting the verdict in his professional misconduct trial by the Florida Bar. http://gamepolitics.com/2008/04/01/this-is-not-an-april-fools-joke/ I suggest people look at a lot of different news sites online to get the real news.
"I don't see why the Dems won't go on O'Reilly because he has really given them unbiased coverage"
Bill O'Reilly talks over his guests more than any television host I have ever seen.
I think that all the major networks are biased, Fox included. They make me mad, but Fox especially so. They keep beating the Wright thing into the ground!! The other day, my bf and I were flipping through the channels, and he said, "How much do you want to bet that Fox is talking about Wright at this very moment?" We turned the channel, and sure enough!
There are so many very important issues to discuss. They focus on Wright because they can't talk about the state of the country, because that would only help the Democrats.
37"They focus on Wright because they can't talk about the state of the country, because that would only help the Democrats."
They focus on Wright because they can play that video of him saying God Damn American OVER and OVER and OVER and their ratings go HIGHER and HIGHER and HIGHER. "Gawd damn america!"
38It makes you wonder about people that will watch the same thing that they "hate" over and over again. Disturbing.
The interesting thing is that Martin Luther King Jr. said that God would come down and break America's back for the sins we committed in Vietnam, but Fox probably doesn't want to play that footage.
39Yeah, the video from back then is probably pretty grainy and wouldn't look fancy on HDTV
40I think it's time for a good old fashioned Southern Fox hunt. Cabaker27, Jillness, Syako I've got your side saddles ready.
For those of you who say FOX is no more Right Than another is Left good for you. I say so the flippin what. Just make sure your diet of news intake is well rounded and you shouldn't have an intellectual problem.
41Amen!
42I second Cabaker.
43I prefer Fox to CNN right now. I can't stand CNN.
44I'm ready to giddy up hypno
and thanks for the side saddle for the ladies.
45I often wonder what it would look like if all of us regulars met up at a coffee shop --- I'm sure it would be a strange eclectic get together. and not much unlike a Fox news panel discussion.
Who's going to be Bill???
46Cine is Bill, she is the angriest of all of us!!!
47Yeah you think she'll just cut us off mid sentence though?
48As long as I get to be Megyn... or ....
Uma Pemmaraju!
Jillness can be Colmes...
haha, jk jill!
49Do you DOUBT she'll just cut us off???
