If NBC's ad for Miss USA is any indication, folks are dispensing with the whole "beauty pageants are an opportunity for young women to win scholarships/this is a talent competition" pretense. What's shocking is that instead of being honest, and saying, okay, it's. . .a beauty pageant which judges women on superficial qualities, NBC is taking an extreme position. Miss USA, they seem to be saying, is a great opportunity for the viewer to watch women make fools of themselves. Sheesh! I'm not a fan of beauty pageants, but this is just piggish.

so sad... I don't like that one bit...
1I think it's pretty funny. There are plenty of other ways for women to get scholarships if they want to be taken seriously. Signing up for a beauty pageant, you're putting yourself out there to be judged for superficial reasons, and making fun of your stupidity is just one way that that's going to happen if you screw up on such a public stage. There out there traipsing around in bikinis and twirling batons. How seriously are we supposed to be taking them???
2i hate this hole "america finds embarasment funny" thing! i mean ... really, is that somthing that makes me WANT to watch? is watching others mess up supposed to make me feel better about my self? ok, thats my blab about it.
