George Clooney, a longtime friend of the Clintons and son of a Democratic politician, recently gushed to UK Marie Claire about why he supports Barack Obama. He always thought he would help out Hillary, until . . .
A couple of years ago, at the 2004 Democratic National Convention, up stepped the most eloquent speaker I've heard since maybe Kennedy. I just thought, "Well, there are people who are great and will do fine, then there's a time in your life where you go, 'This is something spectacular.'"

Is George worried that some of his fans could be offended by his love for Obama? To find out, read more.
George worries about backlash from the voters, not backlash from the fans. His father's 2004 run for Congress taught him that his celebrity status could be a political liability. He explained:
I couldn't campaign for him because the Republicans ran a "Hollywood vs. the heartland" campaign, saying we were the immoral ones. It's enticing when someone exciting [like Obama] says, "Please do this for me." But you have to ask, 'Is this in their best interests?"
Do you think George's support helps or hurts Barack Obama? Should America anticipate another Hollywood vs. the heartland general election?

Obama 2008!
1Obama 2008!
2I dont know if republicans said they were immoral... out of touch yes, but I didn't hear immoral.
3so my husband used to have Scarlett Johannson on his "list" (if you watch Friends you should know what I'm talking about) and then he heard her say that she was 'engaged to Obama' well she's no longer on the list...
4haha!
5he can always have melissa joan hart! haha!
6
well pelosi used to be on his list too, but once she was chosen as the speaker of the house
she was outta there.
7I don't think his support helps or hurts; I feel like it's just kind of there. And Syako, your hubby can have Sela Ward, too! See, there is more than one famous Republican!
8except that she's the same age as his mother...
9How about Angie Harmon? She's a hottie and a conservative!
10Megyn Kelly from Fox News?? She is SMOKIN!
11OK, cabaker, your suggestions are much better than Sela Ward. She was all I could come up with at the time!
12I kinda have a lady crush on Megyn Kelly...
13ooooh the truth comes out!
14he likes the girls on his list to keep their mouths shut about politics!
15ooo Angie Harmon is Gorgeous!
16
Syako
17maybe cuz they are so opposite of his wife.. hmmmmmm?
18exactly.
19I prefer the men on my list the same way
20Thats right! Seen and not heard!
21So sy, who is on your list then???
22It changes quite frequently actually... but always mr. johnny depp!
23the other two as of today - joaquin and casey affleck (IDK, but after I saw casey in gone baby gone I became strangely attracted to him, I think it's cuz he's so opposite of his silly brother)
24Christian Bale for me... he's sooo yummy!
25mmm yeah.
26Scarlett Johannson is on my list, but I didn't know about the Obama comment.
27Mmm...Hot men shutting their traps....Tasty....

29Well, considering I'm not marrying her, I think I might be able to keep her on my list.......
30I think I see the newest member of the infamous Ocean's team.
31George Clooney would NOT be helpful at all to Barack Obama's campaign at this point in his life. His current flame would definitely kill Obama's chances or make him look foolish. If the centrist (Republicans and Democrats) thought the Democrats were immoral then, they would think they are hedonistic now.
32Doesn't make much of a difference to me. Democratic candidates tend to collect high-profile Hollywood supporters.
I've never liked Clooney much as an actor or thought him handsome, but he does generally seem intelligent, however, so this is anyway better than if Paris Hilton came out supporting a candidate
33I love George Clooney. I really do. He's such a smart, passionate man. I absolutely love him, always have. Plus he's hot.
Will it help or hurt, who cares? He's a citizen and gets to support whoever he wants. People can like or dislike his choice, but in the end he still has right to it regardless.
34Smutty, do you have a problem with George's new girlfriend? This sounds personal
35So Clooney is backing Obama. I now have to rethink my support of obama since I don't like anything about Clooney
36Geez Dave, he's been backing Obama since before Obama announced!
37But I'm not swift enough to keep track of that lol
38Well don't worry, maybe Streisand can lure you to Hillary's side.
39@ stephley
I don't have anything against anyone, a question was posed and I answered it in my opinion.
@lulu29
George Clooney actually cares, that is why he hasn't been as outspoken for Barrack Obama as he would like. That is why you haven't seen him officially campaigning for Barack Obama.
If Obama gets the Democratic nomination he will have to distance himself "somewhat" from his Hollywood supporters in order to win.
Campaigns tend to get downright dirty and one thing for sure is the opposition will not be above using the Jolie-Pitt non-marital status or George Clooney's girlfriend recent past to discredit his Hollywood supporters who will be out campaigning in full force. And they will try to discredit them. They will use them in campaigns ads, maybe not directly but in some shape or form anything to weaken the celebrities credibility.
The Republicans are not above dirty tactics. They used homosexual marriage last time as their rally call. Guess how many right wing Christian Fundamentalist came out to vote for such a non-issue? We were in a losing war, the economy was horrible, yet people wanted to vote to keep homosexuals from getting married. It is weird that sexual based issues seem to set the right wing off. It seems as though they don't care about the issues, but what they view as immoral and hedonistic behavior.
It will be the same for Hillary Clinton, instead of Hollywood types, they will go after her husband. They have so much material with her marriage before, during and after her husbands presidency. The Lewinsky scandal, Gennifer Flowers and so on and so on. They are going to try to weaken her credibility as well.
It is going to get real dirty in the last few months of the presidential campaign and if you are a candidate you don't want non sense to be the reason you lost.
