Osama bin Laden took a break from condemning America, instead taking aim at the European Union and the Catholic Church. In an audio tape tentatively attributed to the fugitive terrorist, his first message of 2008, bin Laden threatened the European Union "grave punishment" for publishing offensive cartoons of the Prophet Muhammad. His new single is titled: "The Response Will Be What You See, Not What You Hear."

In 2006, 50 people were killed after a Danish newspaper republished cartoons of the Prophet with a bomb as a turban. Many saw the cartoons as an attack on Islam. Enraged by the infamous cartoons, bin Laden called them a part of a "new crusade" and accused Pope Benedict XVI of being involved.
Are you troubled by this new tape? Do you think the constant reminder that bin Laden is still at-large gives his followers motivation to keep fighting?

could you please take that terrible face off of my computer screen
1a new crusade? Are you kidding? It was a freakin illustration in a newspaper somewhere in Denmark. How could that ever be comparable to the crusades? And why, oh why, would the Pope "be involved" in this? This man is truly psychotic.
2Osama gives me the HJ's!
3He makes me sick. Monster!
4Someone needs to kill that man. I'll do it. Someone give me a gun.
5Harmony, can I help?
Do you think if something happened in Europe that they would try to flip the story to some how blame the USA?
6I can't figure it out...psychotic is all I can think of. You go through all the things in your mind that can make someone become a radical freak, and it doesn't add up. He was a little boy once, and what happened to shape him into what he has become? That's what I always wonder.
7
is his one and only name
8Absolutely! You can cover me with a sniper rifle! Seriously if anyone ever sees him strolling down the street...take him out. (Make sure it's him of course
)
9Cine, I'm sure there would be some sort of spin to make it be America's fault.
10Bin Laden really creeps me out. I think he's a wee bit oversensitive. Why can't he just hang out in his cave and ignore the rest of the world? Of course Europe would blame us, that's their raison d'etre. Whenever European countries start whining about the US I remember a headline for an editorial piece that read "Free Loading Europe Can Kiss My Unilateralism." Especially France...go speak German if you hate us so much.
Cine, I picked up The Looming Tower last night. I was so proud of myself for going to a bookstore and only buying one book, it was very hard for me!
11He is the ultimate egotist, and he needs to get over himself asap, and all those who support him need to catch a clue. In his mind the world clearly revolves around him and his perception of Islam. I just wish he'd die already.
12Oooh Cine can I be the new administration's assassin!?! I'd love to wear cat suits and dance the tango with my enemies before I took them out.
13Kris, I am reading about that exact thing right now. And from what I am reading, it is much less of what America has done, but more about the influence the western world has on Islam, and trying to create a perfect Islamic country.
Obviously there is much more to it, and he hates the USA, but it is an interesting read and offering some insight.
14ha ha! mariner, I thought that too. Why can't you just hang out in your cave and leave everybody else alone? I picture him spending time grooming his beard and talking to himself.
15MarinerMandy, I'm curious why you think France and Europe hate the US?
16Dude where is he, is he here. I doubt he in a cave, he needs to let it go.
17Cine, what is that book?
18HAHAHA!!! Harmony, you are hired!
19I don't know if they hate the US...but a lot of countries blame us for stirring things up.
20Libertysugar 2 words:Freedom Fries lol.
21YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY! I'll take all these psychos out one by one.
22THE LOOMING TOWER by Lawrence Wright. It is really interesting. My plan is to finish it this weekend, take a week off, then read it again, because there is SOOO much information that it is difficult to absorb it all.
23Nya: that annoyed my so much...my own commanding officer insisted on calling my Petty Officer Freedom for years. It really pissed me off.
24I will add the book title to the book list on Conservative Sugar.
Mariner, cheers to you, because I can never do that!
25france and europe hate us because they owe us so much, and they cant stand it.
26harmony welcome aboard
27That blows harmony, I would be anoyed too. It was so amusing that people could be such twits, freedom fries WTF?? Like that was not a high point in american history lol acting like immature 5 year olds.
28Catererpillar, my mother always says, they are just jealous. It cracks me up.
29They hate us because they hate our leader.
30Amen Caterpillar! That's how I feel too!

32One of my good friends lived in France for a couple years and she was astounded by the anti-American sentiments there and in other countries in Europe. Chirac was pretty vocal about his displeasure with the Iraq war as well. They have this vision that we're world bullies and I completely see how they would come to that conclusion, however, pulling lessons from World War II you would think that they would see how dangerous it is to placate dictators. I didn't agree with the war either and I did think it was bullying to a certain extent on the part of the US. However, they failed to come up with an alternate plan; I think it was pretty clear that continued attempts to get UN inspectors in Iraq was not going to work. I also used to watch French and British news on CSPAN back when the war was about to break out and it was really interesting to see how they viewed us and their thoughts.
33YAY Syako! I love it! I want a cool name like THE ERADICATOR
34Freedom fries! haha! I still call them that sometimes just to be obnoxious... it makes me laugh... The French are ok with me now that they elect Sarkozy... I got no beef! And I'm happy that I can eat French brie again!
35
Bre.
36You can't say France and Europe only anti-american sentiment is high all over the world, asia, South America, Africa and it's got mostly to do with your president and his policies, to tell you the truth, it's not because they are jealous (sub-prime anyone???), they really just don't care for America and what they see as hihg-handedness, bullying or a new form of imperialism. the way the Iraq war was handled made America very unpopular and helped those who had other agendas to spread their message of hate.
37There you go again cabaker making everyone hungry!
38Mandy I think you're right, but I do think there is a difference between eastern Europe vs. western Europe... Eastern Europe is still coming out of communism to a certain extent, so they embrace Americans and America much more since the experience of being under a dictator of sorts is still fresh.
I also wonder if anti-American sentiment is more a city thing vs. a rural thing, I wonder if they people in rural Europe have no issue with Americans. Even in this country, it seems to a certain extent that anti-Americanism is more a city thing vs. a rural thing.
39I know, shame on me! I can't remember the last time I had brie... its so good but sooo bad for you.
40cabaker I'm not sure that they are embracing the US in Eastern Europe so much as toeing the line and not biting the hand that feeds you especially now with the Kosovo situation angering quite a few people.
41Thanks Cine! You have been talking about that book but I didn't have time to look it up. Now I will!
42God, all that Freedom Fries business just nearly killed me. I mean, when all that happened, I thought what is the big surprise? French people have always been a little cagey and quirky. what's new? I have traveled in France and Belgium, and they can go from being kind, generous, and friendly to being a complete a-hole a day later. I had a hard time getting my boyfriend back then to go to La Madeleine. I was like BOY, you do not know what you are missing! cheese, cheese, more cheese, and CREAM SAUCE! Freedom toast, if you will, eggs, bacon, syrup and bread with real butter and marmalade. I'm not giving that up in a million years.
my husband was born and raised in Ukraine (that's eastern europe guys
and it really
depends on the person/situation. the west of Ukraine (close to Europe) likes the U.S. and Europe and wants to join the European Union and finally feel like a legit country. On the other hand
those in the East of Ukraine absolutely LOVE Russia and Putin and want to be under his rule (which is a heck of a lot like communism if you ask me).
43I'm actually curious as to what evidence you have that they hate us. I think if you look at the big picture, and beyond the chliches, our interests are aligned, and we work together on a lot of things. Case in point about common interests: Osama bin Laden hates the US and Europe.
44another thing I wanted to point out is that most want to come to U.S. to make money quickly and live a very nice life (the average income in Ukraine is about $300 a month for the middle/high class) but just because they want to live here doesn't mean they necessarily love us.
45excellent points syako and nya!
46Liberty I dont know what evidence there is. We're constantly being told by the left that europe hates us, that everyone hates us actually, so I guess I just fell into the trap of believing it.
47"We're constantly being told by the left that europe hates us, that everyone hates us actually, so I guess I just fell into the trap of believing it."
48I think also that like also vies with dislike. People don't have a problem with America and Americans but sometimes the whole I'm a patriot and anyone who criticises the land of the free and home of the brave isn't mentality gets a little tired and slightly obnoxious. Great contry yes but we know that already we don't need reminding every 5 minutes lol.
49THIS is why it is important to distinguish between Iraq, Iran, and Al Queda!
