Beer guzzlers are more likely to vote Republican, and wine connoisseurs are more likely to vote Democrat. That's according to refreshing poll results released by CNN and the Opinion Research Corporation about how drinking habits correlate to voting.

John McCain's lead among brewski drinkers, however, evaporates against Barack Obama, as the two are tied among that group in a head-to-head match up. And, the most shocking result from the poll: about 50 percent said that they never drink, under any circumstance. I'm curious about the methodology.
Alas, you can bring it all back to gender and class stereotypes. The poll showed that women, people with a high income, and the college educated prefer wine. Men, and the working class, generally prefer beer.
Should the candidates bring their campaigns to the bars? Do your drinking preferences reveal anything about you?

No choice for a Maker's Mark Old Fashioned, so I went for a strong beer and strong Republicans.
1Funny and off.
2red wine repub. but i have an open mind
3these polls are funny, i remember back in 04 when one came out that asked "if the canididates were dogs, which breed would they be?"
who thinks of this stuff?!
4people with lots of time on their hands cabaker.
5no kidding. people with too much time on their hands. and a shout out for Maker's Mark!
6haha so true!
7how lame

9I love studies and surveys, but this one is just too stupid to interest even me. At least the one about dogs is entertaining.
Still, it highlights something I've noticed over time. When I was growing up, I always had the impression that the Democrats were the party "of the people" and the Republicans were the party of the wealthy and business. Maybe I misperceived that, being a kid? I'm not quite sure when that changed, or why. Anyone have any insight? My entire adult life has been so hectic, I've only been able to try to follow things more closely in recent elections.
10I wonder how tequila drinkers are supposed to vote
11Yeah, I dont understand the reasoning either. Working class may drink beer but I didnt know they voted Rep.
12Lain - Maybe because during the 80s it was that whole "yuppie" wall street thing... I wish I could pin point the year that changed, that would be very interesting to see what the cause was.
13hey what about
(Even though that definitely isn't my drink of choice)
14Lain, I guess it depends on when you grew up! I agree cabaker, it would be very interesting to see when that has changed in history. I kind of had the same idea growing up, and couldn't make sense of it when I heard as a teen that many poor and ag-business people were very conservative. I would have thought they would be democrats, wanting change to benefit them.
15Remember the Alabama song, "High Cotton?" I always remember the words, "Daddy was a veteran, a Southern Democrat, you oughtta get a rich man to vote like that." Of course they were singing about the 30's I think.
Then I grew up and moved to Austin, where you can pretty much throw everything you thought you knew about categorizing people out the window. I gave up.
Maker's Mark!
16Vodka tonic republican.
But I went for the red wine. I think surveys like this are intereting
because there are telling about lifestyles and preferences in relation to politics. Although this one is somewhat contradictory.
They did a rundown of what Hillary fans versus Obama fans prefer, from where they grocery shop to what computers they use and it was pretty funny. I heard it on the radio.
17The only parts I remember: Hillary fanss shop at Shaws ( or regular chain grocery) Obama fans at Whole Foods, Hillary fans have PCs and Obama fans have Macs.
Lain, I think you just grew up. Although I am proud to say, I have always been a Conservative.
I
have been through a lot of fights because of it.
3M has a great quote about when you turn Conservative. Hey 3M! Do you remember what I am talking about?
18I agree that this one is a little contradictory, and in my experience, a little off.
I'm a beer drinker (not a wine fan at all) and a Democrat.
19Oh and I am a beer drinker, but I like wine, and makers mark, but not wine coolers. That definitely either makes you lame, or thirteen.
20"Maybe I misperceived that, being a kid?" - A "kid" miseducated on Republicans? Shocking!
21Cine, this one:
Many Republicans were once Democrats, but then they grew up.
22i'll take a cosmo with my republican
23i hate beer
redegg thats funny! I wonder what that survey said about mccain supporters... probably like, "they don't shop at grocery stores, they just eat what they kill" and "the don't use computers, they use typewriters"
haha!
24"they don't shop at grocery stores, they just eat what they kill" and "the don't use computers, they use typewriters"
3M, there is that one, but there is one other. Something about you are suppose to be a liberal when you are young.
25I know what you're talking about and I can't remember who said it. I'll try and see if I can get back to you on that one.....
26Cine, is it "If you aren't a liberal when you're in your 20's, you don't have a heart, and if you're not a conservative by the time you're 40, you don't have a brain?"
By the way, just for the record, I'm a Republican and definitely prefer a good gin and tonic, but I'll go for both beer and wine on occasion, it all depends on my mood.
27what? you guys actually shop at grocery stores?! pfh. Me and my husband work for our meals honey.
28We don't have a liberal or conservative party in Zimbabwe we just have the old guard and the new kids on the block. i'm a proud whiskey drinking new kid on the block supporter.
29I love NKOTB. Joey is my one true
30LOL syako wish it were NKOTB would be so much easier. It's ZANU and MDC and i'm an MDC supporter. Anyone is better than Robert Mugabe and his idiot policies.
31Syako - you got the right stuff!
and now that song will be in my head all day...
32"If you aren't a liberal when you're in your 20's, you don't have a heart, and if you're not a conservative by the time you're 40, you don't have a brain?"
That's it! Thank you! It was really bothering me that I could not remember the quote. I hate when it is on the tip of your tounge and it just won't come out.
33cine and mymellowman- have you ever heard, "people start out as democrats until they start making money." lol
34but anyway, i'm a registered dem but a libertarian at heart....and i love wine but also really can go for a cold one from a brewery, like penn brewery in pittsburgh, yummmmmm!
35I feel left out now. I don't know any NKOTB songs.
36sweet, I have actually heard my friends say the same thing as that quote. That they were Dems until they graduated and received their first pay check.
37cine! you don't know any NKOTB... you didn't know MotownPhilly the other day... haven't you ever listened to cheesy music??
38Yeah, I do question someone who doesn't know any NKOTB. They were such an integral part of my childhood.
39Thanks lilkimbo, that was the quote.....
40motown philly back again.
41Doin' a little east coast fling
42Well, unlike some of our American Idols, at least cine knows Beatles songs.......
43I really do have vast array of music knowledge. It just seems to be different then everyone else's.
44Beatles make me
45don't be ashamed cine, in fact, that vast knowledge may come in handy during our campaign. who know!?
46i think i'm the only here who hates the beatles, I can't stand their music.
47nkotb make me
lol, not really, but it's kind of a funny picture.
48holy crap! we never decided on a campaign song! thats like the most important part of the campaign!
49btw, did anyone else lol at the picture of kerry with the common folk?
